Brexit

GE is on! Remainers how will you vote?

Just that really! The General Election is on, either 11th Dec or a few days before but it's going to happen now that Labour have agreed. Tactical voting websites are being prepared as we speak.

If you are a remainer, who will you vote for?

(And if any leavers lurk here, will you vote for Tories or Brexit party?)

It’s how Nazi Germany worked. Referendums being an easily manipulable popular vote to give fascism/proto-fascism the veneer of democractic mandate.

Populism and a lack of democracy go hand in hand ironically. Argentina under the Peróns, Zimbabwe under Mugabe, and yes, Germany under Hitler.

If we wanted a proper more direct democracy like Switzerland and Ireland, we would need a lot of legislation and time (and a better education system so people actually understood what they were voting for). We don't.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 29/10/2019 13:49

Interesting! It seems that we're all mostly dissatisfied with the current state of affairs. I am a moderate floating voter. Boris is too right (in addition to being egotistical and philadering). Jezza is too left wing for me. So it will be a tossup between Lib Dems or Greens for me (despite the fact that, although I am a remainder, I disagree with the majority (albeit extremely slim) being denied their democratic vote to leave.

realitycalling · 29/10/2019 13:50

Remainer - won't vote Labour because of Corbyn, anti semitism and misogyny. Lib Dems should have my vote but they have such anti women policies that it won't happen. Politically homeless and considering spoiling my vote - awful to consider but that's the consequence of failing to insist on democratic discussion / debate when women's rights are being erased.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 29/10/2019 13:51

Tactical voter. My MP is a long serving ERG wanker so I'll vote for whoever is most likely to beat him. Insufferable arsehole that he is. My constituency has been Tory since the late 90s sadly.

Yep.

Maryann1975 · 29/10/2019 13:53

Tbh, I don’t feel my vote is worth much anyway. Our Tory MP was elected again with over 60% of the vote. I have been brought up in a Tory family as has dh, but this year for the first time, I don’t think I will be voting for them. I think Lib Dem’s will get my vote, but I they got less than 5% last time, so I don’t think they would be able to do enough to make up the difference.

StylishMummy · 29/10/2019 13:53

Tory

Mishfit0819 · 29/10/2019 13:54

SNP until we get independence from this shit show, as will the majority of Scotland I imagine Grin

pollyputthepastaon · 29/10/2019 13:54

Conservative

I feel we can’t tackle all everything at once. I’d first focus on Brexit, then tackle LDs on women’s issues.

averylongtimeago · 29/10/2019 13:59

I am shocked by the number of people on here and irl who say they won't bother to vote
"Because they don't like Corbyn"
Or "because they don't like the Lib Dem's policies on women or tuition fees "
Or "because the referendum should be respected and they don't want to vote Tory"

Right now, despite what the press will tell you, Brexit is not the only issue. Much as I would like to remain, I don't think revoke will happen.
What is important is to keep the Tory's out and stop a right wing takeover of the UK.
Voting tactically is imo the only way to do this.

AlexaAmbidextra · 29/10/2019 14:02

Fascinating that the title asks for remainers responses and the first people that jump on are leavers.

Probably because they had the sense to read the entire post and not just jump in at the title. Hmm

birdsdestiny · 29/10/2019 14:03

Laughing at the thought you could sort out the lib dems policies on women. Their view of women as commodities is hard wired in the philosophy of the party.

tinytemper66 · 29/10/2019 14:04

Plaid or Lib Dem

Totally agree. If there was ever a time that everyone needs to vote for the sake of the country it’s now.

Whining that all the parties are a bit shit - as if some utopian perfect party existed is really immature. They’re all shit, yes but the only way to avoid a slide to full on hard right is to vote for one (any) other shit party.

wondering7777 · 29/10/2019 14:05

Lib Dem or Labour - haven't decided yet.

I would 100% vote Labour if I was in a marginal, but I live in one of the safest Labour seats in the country so I'm not concerned about them getting in.

MrPan · 29/10/2019 14:06

The biggest challenge to our democracy is Johnson and his right wing group.

If we value our democracy at all, we have to vote them out. Tactically if need be. Not liking Corbyn or Swinson is simply no excuse to vote in the tory mob.

BonnesVacances · 29/10/2019 14:06

I bitterly resent my GE vote being conflated with a Brexit vote. I want to revoke A50 and stop spaffing millions up the wall on a failed promise. But I don't want to vote for my MP and ultimately our next PM for the next 5 years on that basis. I genuinely have no idea what to do.Confused

wondering7777 · 29/10/2019 14:06

Right now, despite what the press will tell you, Brexit is not the only issue.

Brexit IS the only issue as far as I'm concerned, which is why I'll be voting Labour/Lib Dem.

BeesKnees4 · 29/10/2019 14:09

Reading these pp makes me shudder at how naive women voters can be; ‘I don’t like Jeremy so I’ll vote Boris’ jesus wept be a bit more educated than that!!!
It’s not a personality contest; leaders change and can change quickly.
Voting for Tory is voting for a party lining their own pockets, taking away workers rights, slashing benefits for the most vulnerable; if any SEN parents voted them you should be ashamed. Stop believing the press- tory donors- vote for the better good not your pocket.
I’m SNPbut despair of English voters and their blinkered views.

crankyassnoperope · 29/10/2019 14:10

Boris is too right (in addition to being egotistical and philadering). Jezza is too left wing for me. So it will be a tossup between Lib Dems or Greens for me

But... the Greens are politically more left wing than Labour Confused

Dusty01 · 29/10/2019 14:11

I don't think Brexit is the biggest issue at the moment.

I think we're being taken over by Right wing wannabe despots. Please please don't spoil your vote people.

See what Boris and the ERG are doing. It will get worse if a new even more right wing government is voted in. We all need to vote - more than ever before. Hold your noses. Vote for Swinson/Corbyn. Vote tactically. We need - desperately - to get this lot out.

zafferana · 29/10/2019 14:11

Remainer here. I have no fucking idea! I can't stand our local Tory candidate and I really like our LD one, but I (very reluctantly) think we need to get Brexit done now. I'm fucking sick of hearing about it and am fed up with the national agenda being dominated by it, so I think we need to get it done, economically disastrous though it will be.

Iwantacookie · 29/10/2019 14:11

I'm really not sure. Definitely not tories either labour or lib dems probably labour for tactical reasons.
I do think spoiling your vote should count as no confidence in any government as ideally that is what I would like to do.

crankyassnoperope · 29/10/2019 14:12

Totally agree with this.
