EastCoast, Irish re-unification (if on the cards) is at least 10years away.
There is a sense here, that there is no way we will be railroaded into it, to facilitate Brexit.
Absolutely unfair to all NI citizens of Unionist or Nationalist variety.

EastCoastDamsel · 08/10/2019 14:43

I don't disagree at all @Duchess, and I really don't meant to suggest that it is a solution to the Brexit Shit Show. I added that step, perhaps a little flippantly, but really as an illustration that there is no simple, painless solution to this mess.

Even revoking Article 50, which is still my preference, and possibly the least painful, won't solve the problem. Sad Sad Sad

Thehagonthehill · 08/10/2019 14:47

If we do get an extension it will only be until may,(I think the EU budget is set in June, they will not want the UK there with its veto if Brexit is not sorted out one way or another,,)
What can the MPs really achieve that they have not even tried to do on 3 years.Even if the parties votes change a bit we will probably have a hung parliament and the same people in it.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 08/10/2019 15:45

No deal was always inevitable. The EU and remainer MPs were never willing to accept a deal that allowed the UK to leave.

Boris will not send an extension letter, he will probably take court. Its parliaments surrender act so its for them to sort out, they had the choice to change the PM but decided not to. Hopefully in the ensuing mess we will break free on the 31st.

If not we will leave with a very hard exit the day after Boris wins a GE.

MonnaLIza · 08/10/2019 15:48

Mr. Johnson is bound by the law to send an extension letter.

elprup · 08/10/2019 16:32

Mr. Johnson is bound by the law to send an extension letter.

And if he doesn't?

OP posts:
EastCoastDamsel · 08/10/2019 16:46

What exactly got you think we will be breaking freeof @wakingdead?

Other than revoke, any outcome will result in YEARS of negotiations and uncertainty. Brexit will colour and determine the public.conversation for the next decade

Walkingdeadfangirl · 08/10/2019 16:46

Mr. Johnson is bound by the law to send an extension letter
Obviously remainers want to believe that but if Boris can find a 'legalish' way around it then he is allowed to try and do that. And if parliament think he is bound by law to do this then they can take him to court to prove it.

I dont think the surrender bill was scrutinised properly because of the way it was forced though. Maybe their is some obscure ancient precedence that can delay it for a few days until the 31st.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 08/10/2019 16:48

Other than leaving, any outcome will result in YEARS of anger and uncertainty. Revoking would colour and determine the public conversation for the next decade.

Bluntness100 · 08/10/2019 16:48

And if he doesn't?

I've already answered this, he has already confirmed to the court he will, but if anyone is silly enough to think he was lying on that document, then the court will appoint someone to do it instead. Literally on the morning of thr 20th.

Bluntness100 · 08/10/2019 16:54

And if parliament think he is bound by law to do this then they can take him to court to prove it.

They don't need to. He has already confirmed to the court he will seek the extension.

Why is this causing so much confusion?

The law says he must seek an extension.
He has written to thr court and confirmed he will do so.

End of.

If he changes his mind, then the court will appoint someone to do it instead, literally within hours.

There is nothing to see here. Seriously.

Walkingdead
Brexit is a baby that has been gestating for years
when it is delivered
it will need its nappy changed and its meals prepared for years while it gives us sleepless nights
it will not grow up enough to contribute to the household income for decades

thanks but no thanks

bellinisurge · 08/10/2019 16:56

"remainer MPs were never willing to accept a deal that allowed the UK to leave. "
Neither did your pals in the ERG. We would be out by now if they had accepted the WA

Parker231 · 08/10/2019 17:00

Twitter from Donald Tusk

@BorisJohnson, what’s at stake is not winning some stupid blame game. At stake is the future of Europe and the UK as well as the security and interests of our people. You don’t want a deal, you don’t want an extension, you don’t want to revoke, quo vadis?

KennDodd · 08/10/2019 17:05

I've heard a no deal Brexit compared to needing a shit.

You really need a shit. You want to stop feeling like that so just do it in your pants as the quickest way to just get it over with so you can stop thinking about it and just get on with the rest of your day.

I thought it was a good analogy.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 08/10/2019 18:03

Loving the remainer analogies
Brexit is a baby that has been gestating for years
And you are proposing you just push the baby back in the womb? Brexit baby is coming, like night follows day.

Neither did your pals in the ERG. We would be out by now if they had accepted the WA I blame ALL MPs we aren't out but to pretend Mays WA was being out of the EU is kinda polishing a turd.

KennDodd · 08/10/2019 18:06

I blame ALL MPs
I blame Leave voters, it's their fault we're in this mess. I can only see it getting worse as well.

bellinisurge · 08/10/2019 18:08

So, in short, your happy for uncontrolled shit everywhere and everyone who isn't is trying to stop Brexit.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 08/10/2019 18:09

@BorisJohnson, what’s at stake is not winning some stupid blame game

I wonder did Donald Tusk say this with a straight face as he claimed it was all Boris' fault. Hilarious.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 08/10/2019 18:12

So, in short, your happy for uncontrolled shit everywhere

Seriously? Is that an official project fear remainer line?

Parker231 · 08/10/2019 18:13

It is 100% Boris and his gangs fault - who else can you blame?

The government are finally being honest about how bad a no deal exit will be.

The WA as presented by Mrs May but rejected bu the HoC IS the protocol to leave the EU. It is a 585 page 'summary' of all the legislation that will need to be rewritten or which will 'simply' be abandoned when the UK leaves. After 2 years leavers who insist they are not thick, still haven't grasped this.
The whole 'leave the EU process is well documented but Boris and the tossers are insisting on shouting, screaming and shitting on the carpet.
The way to leave is to sign the WA and attendant PD, at which point proper negotiations can START.

The WA, like in a divorce, is simply listing who gets the candlesticks, and the washing machine and other details.
If you go back 3 years and heed the words 'there will be no cherrypicking'. If the UK is sleaving the EU club, it does not take any of the club advantages with it.
NO deal is still the legal result of Boris failing to sign up to the WA by 31 October by EU law which overrides whatever twattery bojo and the wankers come up with.

Greatnorthwoods · 08/10/2019 18:27

Bluntness100

You posts are very interesting, I do admire your trust in the government.

bellinisurge · 08/10/2019 19:02

Fucking hell @Walkingdeadfangirl , I'm lobbying for an orderly Brexit on here. Jesus, if you alienate people like me you aren't going to win anyone over.
