DH's predictions

DH has thoroughly depressed me. This is his view of what will happen. Brexit will happen by hook or by crook (especially the latter) on October 31st. There will then be an immediate general election and the conservatives will win. (Neither of ours preferred option). Then it will be all bets are off. He says we're stuck now - housing market will bomb.
What do you think?
(Mind you he thought remain would win.)

The potential miscalculation is assuming that Brexit being 'done' will swing Northern Labour voters...

Seems a bit pointless to vote Tory or BXP if Brexit is done...

Bluntness100 · 29/09/2019 21:39

No, I don't think so. I think parliament will prevent a no deal. I don't think no deal is a real risk right now. The real issue is who will be in power.

The most likely scenario is we get an extension. Either Boris does it or Bercow. They will either call a Ge or Boris does it, or they will vote no confidence if Boris doesn't, and put an interim government in place, who will go for the Ge.

The issue of no deal may will then arise again based on who wins. And who leads that party ie in three months later.

I'm not sure if there is a vote of no confidence in Boris if he can continue to lead the Tory party or stand in a leadership contest though.

If he can and does, and he wins by a majority there is a real risk he will take us out with no deal at the end of jan.

lljkk · 29/09/2019 21:40

What IS the actual difference betw. BxP & Tory party?

shortsaint · 29/09/2019 22:08

I think Brexit extension, then GE, no overall majority and a coalition government. And then we carry on in the same manner and either veer fast to the right or civil war or some other world crisis intervenes.

Oh God. 😆

onalongsabbatical · 29/09/2019 22:18

Wiltshirelass2019 if you view Scotland as a drain, I wonder how you think London should view Wiltshire? Do you understand the principles of human society at all?

Dapplegrey · 29/09/2019 22:21

Shortsaint - will the Civil War be left v right or leavers v Remainers?

shortsaint · 29/09/2019 22:40

@Dapplegrey Remain vs Leave - was near a battle site in the English Civil War today and DH and I were discussing it - Parliamentarians vs (Ultra) Conservatives.

So hope I am wrong.

Dapplegrey · 29/09/2019 22:48

Shortsaint ok that’s interesting.
What form do you think it will take? Presumably not actual physical fighting?

elprup · 30/09/2019 14:31

If there’s a general election and Labour win, could they just take us straight back in again? Or is that impossible?

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 30/09/2019 14:52

Comments like Wiltshire’s makes me wonder how long before the more deranged Leavers start giving Scotland the same smearing treatment as they’ve given the EU over the years.
It’s like a lot of people need something to hate/blame.

They already have. I've seen a poster on here having a go a NI for being a brexit sticking point. Dh has had people tell him to his face that Hadrian's wall needs rebuilding because the Scots are scroungers (from someone who is unemployed to dh who has a very good job but a Scottish accent). Dh almost told him his mum was from NI just to see if the guy's head exploded but decided against further baiting. I wouldn't have been so charitable.

In my more cynical moments (all the time at the moment) I think if Boris wins a GE and we crash out of the EU, he might have a go at dissolving the Scottish Parliament.

prettybird · 30/09/2019 14:53

ssd I'm with you Smile Would love for Scotland to stop being a "drain" (Hmm) on the UK. We can stop having to pay for WM and supposedly "national" infrastructure (like HS2) that doesn't actually benefit Scotland Hmm

And FUKD can find somewhere else to host Trident (as well as pay for it). Devonport for example.

ssd · 30/09/2019 21:00

I agree some in England need to blame someone, anyone, rather than themselves for voting in the tories.
It must be so very disheartening to live on England and not vote tory. At least in Scotland we have a slight chance of independence. And never having a tory government up here.

Theworldisfullofgs · 30/09/2019 21:07

Spoke to someone who knows a lot about generational theory (stuff Steve Bannon is in to), reckons things will get a lot worse until about 2025.

OP posts:
CactusAndCacti · 30/09/2019 22:32

For probably the first time in my almost 41 years I really feel that living in England is rubbish. I never thought 'yippee I live in England' but it was what it was. Now I hate what it has become.

Steve Bannon is a fascist nutjob and I wouldn't trust him with a wooden spoon, let alone a prediction for the future.

Everything now hingest on whether Parliament can stop a no deal exit.

In response to the idea of a 'new centrist party' - wasn't that ChangeUK? Didn't go well, did it?

Theworldisfullofgs · 02/10/2019 13:05

I agree with everything you've said about Bannon. Unfortunately for some bizarre reason he's had a lot of influence and has actively sought to make chaos. Cummings also buys into the chaos with a desire to use to reset society. Last time we were in a crisis phase was ww2.

OP posts:
Theworldisfullofgs · 02/10/2019 13:06

*use it

OP posts:
verticality · 02/10/2019 13:30

Bannon's rather failed to do that, though. A few years ago, when he was running Breitbart and had his pathetic henchmen like Milo running around, it looked like he was quite fearsome. But his big 'break into European politics' by uniting the far right hasn't worked so far. Let's hope it continues that way. Smile

I am not sure Cummings is aiming at chaos: I think he and the others in charge have quite a defined plan and it involves a no deal exit and then a massive bonfire of workers' rights, environmental regulations, and an acceleration of capitalism. You could call that chaos, but it's chaos that very definitely profits some groups and hurts others.

Theworldisfullofgs · 02/10/2019 13:36

That's the point isnt it? Create chaos and then capitalise on it.

Huge thanks to posters sharing what their husband/dad/godfather thinks about Brexit. Now that's out of the way, what do you actually think about Brexit?

Theworldisfullofgs · 02/10/2019 16:15

Thanks for the sarcasm. As you will see the thread moved on quite quickly to what people thought. I originally shared what my DH thought to get another opinion.

In summary I think its shit.

OP posts:
CactusAndCacti · 02/10/2019 16:40

In summary I think it's shit.

I too am still firm in this opinion. Goes without saying.

Dragongirl10 · 02/10/2019 16:45

Cannot believe people compared Tories to Nazis earlier in this thread......wrong on so many levels, terrible comments.

TheElementsSong · 02/10/2019 17:36

Diddums.
