DH's predictions

DH has thoroughly depressed me. This is his view of what will happen. Brexit will happen by hook or by crook (especially the latter) on October 31st. There will then be an immediate general election and the conservatives will win. (Neither of ours preferred option). Then it will be all bets are off. He says we're stuck now - housing market will bomb.
What do you think?
(Mind you he thought remain would win.)

The same predictions have been made on MN before.
I guess it kind of makes sense. If UK crashes out at 11pm on 31 October, supports claim that's Brexit 'done'.

The potential miscalculation is assuming that Brexit being 'done' will swing Northern Labour voters, that moderate conservatives will be too horrified by Corbyn to not vote Tory, that Libdems will be seen as anti-democratic, that BJ can 'win' elections or unify more than his opponents...

Except Cummings doesn't care about the damn election. The only prize DC wants is for UK to become an ex EU member and for everyone to be as miserable as Cummings/Banning/Birchill are. So DC is probably playing BJ as much as BJ is trying to play "The People".

Tangled webs they weave...

NiteFlights · 29/09/2019 19:52

we still have a shortage of houses and high demand, so prices will probably keep going up

Yes, that’s what happens in a recession

NiteFlights · 29/09/2019 19:52
Hmm
Theworldisfullofgs · 29/09/2019 19:52

I know that Bannon is a fan of generational theory and in particular the world resetting after a crisis (ww2 was the last one). Bannon thought the financial crisis didnt create enough misery. Does Cummings ascribe to the same theories? It's all about creating enough chaos and bugger the little people.

I think your husband has it right.

Got those that say they normally vote Labour but won’t vote for Corbyn, could you explain why?

foreverroses · 29/09/2019 19:55

For, not got 🙄

Sally2791 · 29/09/2019 19:58

Fingers crossed your husband is right Maverick Snoopy

Jellykat · 29/09/2019 20:29

Do you not think though, that Leavers will realize they were sold a unicorn before a GE? Particularly as Yellowhammers contents come to inevitable fruition, and daily lives are up shit creak?..
Cant imagine as businesses go under and people lose jobs, that the poorer leavers will be impressed.

madcatladyforever · 29/09/2019 20:32

I've just sold my house as I have a new job elsewhere. I'm renting while waiting to buy a new one. Have no idea whats going to happen. No idea if house prices will crash or stay the same, no idea at all.

Peregrina · 29/09/2019 20:34

Nope, they won't realise or if they do, it will be everyone else's fault, the EU, Remainers, the man in the moon.....

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 29/09/2019 20:42

I don’t think leavers will think like that at all. They revel in all the shortages. Backs to the wall and all that shit

thunderthighsohwoe · 29/09/2019 20:44

My dad has predicted basically everything political and economical for as long as I can remember, with total accuracy. He follows current affairs zealously and I guess has good instincts.

I daren’t ask him what he thinks will happen, but he’s been merrily going about his retirement as usual - golfing, cycling, skiing etc - in a good mood, and he was a big Leave voter and staunch Tory.

I am terrified.

Doubletrouble99 · 29/09/2019 20:47

Theemoji - BJ is not hard right conservative and no conservative I know would ever sanction the ideas you listed.

sakura06 · 29/09/2019 20:48

I'm absolutely terrified too. Starting to think seriously about getting out of the UK. 😔

Jellykat · 29/09/2019 20:53

Double sorry, but i would imagine TheEmojis's list is right up JRMs alley, for starters!

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 29/09/2019 20:53

I think he is increasingly right wing. His whole tone and attitude is dreadful. Reminds of learning about Hitler at A level

Theworldisfullofgs · 29/09/2019 20:53

DH thinks we've left it too late plus have A level dc who will be shortly followed by gcse DC.

Doubletrouble99 BJ and the current government are very right wing. The current Home Secretary Priti Patel has previously advocated the death penalty and had consistently voted against gay rights. I think plenty of conservative mps including those in cabinet would sanction those ideas.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/09/2019 21:03

Do you not think though, that Leavers will realize they were sold a unicorn before a GE?

No. So far Leavers have seemed to be particularly poor at apportioning blame to the right places and very good at swallowing soundbites. I don’t see any evidence of that changing anytime soon.

AutumnRose1 · 29/09/2019 21:12

OP "I'd quite like to ho"

Not sure about the legality of that 😁

Your DH prediction is what I think too.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 29/09/2019 21:15

12goldstars, my thoughts exactly. Terrifying. The rhetoric is really worrying. Any other pm would have resigned after the prorogation. But he just sidesteps it all

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 29/09/2019 21:16

Flouncyfanny. Can he predict the winner in a GE?

CactusAndCacti · 29/09/2019 21:25

I really think we will crash out, call for a GE, Tory's will win but with a hung parliament, deals done with the devil Brexit Party.

The Express will continue to moan and blame everyone else for the situation and stir up even more hate.

EducatingArti · 29/09/2019 21:30

My prediction is that sometime this week, all the opposition groups including the 21 expelled Tories will come to an arrangement for a caretaker government. They will discuss over the next couple of days and then have a vote of no confidence in BJ by the end of the week. The caretaker government will get an extension for Brexit and then declare a general election. The election will be close fought though and I think it is too early to see which way it will go. There may be room for a new centerist party that is not as adamant about remain as the Lib Dems. In which case the government will likely be a coalition between Labour and the new party. I'd this happens a Norway style deal will be negotiated with the EU and out to a new referendum. I suspect by this time remain will win though not by too much. There will be political turmoil following this and possibly even civil unrest and it will take us quite a few years to get back on an even keel. During this time far more money will have been spent on Brexit and referendum related issues than on our EU contributions.
Our economy will take quite a while to recover, but not as long as if we'd experienced a no deal Brexit.
