Brexit

Labour WANT to be unelectable, don't they?

Just reading how Momentum under Jon Lansman, tried to get Tom Watson's role (deputy) abolished.

Apart from being as clumsy as prorogation in getting 'what you want', what a dumb thing to do on Momentum's part at this stage.

It's almost as if Labour are doing everything in its power to destroy itself.

Labour conference: Move to abolish deputy post ditched

Glad it's been overturned but the damage has been done.

It certainly looks that way. And Corbyn still hasn't made up his mind about Brexit. How much longer does he need?

mindproject · 21/09/2019 13:50

I've thought this for years. If they were in power they would be forever blamed for this mess. The Conservative Party caused this, they have to be the ones to sort it out. Most of us know the only way it can be solved is to just cancel it, but that will also have serious consequences. Brexit is a lose lose situation, nobody in their right mind would want to be responsible for it.

ListeningQuietly · 21/09/2019 13:53

Corbyn is a Tory mole

Bearbehind · 21/09/2019 14:01

Absolutely. They are a disgrace.

MockersthefeMANist · 21/09/2019 16:30

Let there be no more doubt about it. Landsman and his crew are a gang of Stalinists who wish to establish the dictatorship of the proletariat led by their self-appointed vanguard. They are "Democratic Socialists" in the East German sense of People's Democracy.

This move on Watson was a mistake only in that it was premature.

Expect people to start falling out of windows.

BeardedMum · 21/09/2019 16:31

Yep

BMW6 · 21/09/2019 22:03

And they expect people to vote Labour in a GE?

Fuck NO.

I have voted Labour many times in the past, will never ever vote for them while Momentum are running the Party.

bluejelly · 21/09/2019 22:04

Totally agree. Given the state of the government/ tories/ the PM, they should be way ahead in the polls. The hard left are screwing up the Labour Party massively.

BrexitSucks · 21/09/2019 22:14

As bad as this looks for Labour... Tories still look much worse.

DickKerrLadies · 21/09/2019 22:16

I'd possibly vote for the Labour party... but I don't want to vote for Momentum, ta very much.

MoltoAgitato · 21/09/2019 22:16

If I were Russia or A N other baddie, as well as putting my money into backing the Brexit lunatics, I’d also be doing my damndest to scupper any meaningful opposition. Step forward Momentum and other attempts to destabilise Labour and make it as unappealing as possible....

TheABC · 21/09/2019 22:21

I don't think anyone wants to run the next Government.

If they cancel Brexit, it means a lot of unhappy people.

If they agree to the WA, it's a lot of unhappy people, plus years of negotiation.

If they go for a crash-out, it means unhappy people, plus dead people (when life saving medication can't get through the queues quick enough), plus resumption of war on the NI border. Oh, and years of negotiations.

What everyone in Parliament wants is a reset button.

Miljah · 21/09/2019 22:51

You know, 'if they cancel Brexit, there'll be a lot of unhappy people'.

I disagree. It is my belief that:

Many who voted 'Leave' would have voted for Roland The Rat if they thought it might 'sock it to The Man', re their underfunded, under-resourced, austerity- ridden, barren lives.

They never bothered to vote before due to a) a combination of feeling their vote never counted, anyway; and b) 'they're all the same'; and c) pub's Open, innit?...

And many have conveniently declared 'Democracy's dead/I'll never vote for anything again'... (pleeeez!)...

However, some who voted Leave might be able to launch an impassioned, deeply felt, coherently constructed, evidence based declaration as to why they'd voted that way (wish MN had trawled up a couple, but heigh ho...).

I think we can all guess which faction just might 'take to the streets'.

It is my belief that many casual Leavers are secretly delighted that the grownups are taking back control. They get their opportunity to have a theatrical moan, while being grateful that mum's got her Insulin, baby bro hadn't lost his job at Nissan, that lovable upstart Kasey does get to go and spend a year in Denmark on Erasmus, and yay! Benidorm's still ON!!

They Will Not Riot.

They havent wanted to be in power for ages.

Tony Blair handed Gordon brown the role because they knew gordon brown could never win an election. There had, I believe, been some promise that gordon would become prime minister. But he waamt electable.

They disnt want to win and knew with him as leader they wouldn't.

As the famous note Liam Byrne left, showed they knew they were had fucked up and didnt want to be the ones to deal with the mess.

I dislike the conservative party. But labour fucked the country over first, then ran away instead of trying to fix it. Now sit and point the finger.

I live in the north where Brexit was heavily supported. Attitudes here havent changed. If it doesnt go ahead, there will be problems.

Peregrina · 21/09/2019 23:02

I agree with Milijah, that relatively few would be upset. They'd be glad not to hear about Brexit dominating the news and get on with their lives, as said, without worrying about medication, or crumbling schools......

gluteustothemaximus · 21/09/2019 23:09

I want a reset button.

Every single day is brexit. For 3+ years.

And no one gave 2 shits about it before the vote. Which would have been illegal, had it not been advisory. Insanity.

Miljah · 21/09/2019 23:17

Tilltheendoftheline 'there will be problems'...

Like what?

In fact, rejoice! That nice BoJo The Clown has promised to visit untold riches upon the NHS, the schools, the care homes, the further education institutes!

So seems that cash must be available to any incoming government!

Huzzah!

Miljah well here, in a small ex mining village on the edge of a small town, where people feel (I dont necessarily agree) that the lack of jobs is down to free movement, there will be backlash and possible violence.

Some people will simply have it as an excuse. Just like they do when the world cup is on. Theres alot of tension here based on pro and anti camps.

In my office, you can see it. Especially from people who are related to those in manual jobs. They are usually pro. When a converstation starts, it get heated at work and you can see the anger from both sides.

The director basically banned it from being discussed. My friends who live in the same area and immediate neighbours all say the same.

howrudeforme · 21/09/2019 23:32

Miljah - wow - that’s a harsh view of voters.

I won’t vote labour now as I feel hard left faction is Brexit. Corbyn is leader and he’s been inept at sorting out the claims of antisemetism. At best he’s too cool for school. He does not inspire confidence.

For the first time ever I don’t think there’s a party I can vote for.

Tilltheendoftheline · 21/09/2019 23:32

Oh and the surrounding area uses to be all labour. Sine areas are no longer.

Lots of people are feeling very ler down by labour.

Personally, I wont vote labour again u till the expelled Tony Blair. I have issues with them, but those predate Brexit.

Tilltheendoftheline · 21/09/2019 23:33

For the first time ever I don’t think there’s a party I can vote for.

Me too.

Rachelover60 · 21/09/2019 23:36

GladAllOver, I was just going to type what you said and then I saw your post.

It's such a shame, having a good opposition party is so important. The party in power at the moment aren't great shakes either.

I like Jeremy Corbyn, he's old school labour, but the entire Labour party is a shambles. I might actually vote Lib Dem next time - but am sad about it all.

Doubletrouble99 · 22/09/2019 00:51

I can only presume Miljah come from down south somewhere and hasn't a clue!

Tilltheendoftheline · 22/09/2019 07:25

Dan Carden from the labour party is on.

Apparently labour are scrapping prescription charges. And ofsted and LA will be doing them. No real informatiom on how they will afford this, just that they have costed this and definitely have the money

Oh and also theres no disunity in the party at all. Hmm
