The Supreme Court case continues
(ruling possible Friday but likely Monday)

The new NI proposal is bollocks and Johnson didn't get why until it was discussed in Europe.

There was a press conference in Luxembourg which looks good for Johnson.

Johnsons approval ratings are up.

And we are making no obvious progress to anything but no deal...

Nick Gutteridge @nick_gutteridge
Meeting in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron and Finnish PM Antti Rinne have agreed a deadline of Sep 30 for Britain to submit a written proposal to replace the backstop, Finnish media reports. Finland holds the rotating presidency of the EU Council

Re Kuenssberg, as a journalist she is supposed to report the facts. But the key fact was NOT that he was a Labour activist in that context. The key fact was the members of the fucking press stood there whilst Johnson said they weren't. She deliberately was trying to smear the man by saying his view was politically biased in order to distract away from Johnsons denial that the entire thing was being filmed.

It's proper Orwellian. It's almost trying to tell you to unsee what you've all just seen - the Prime Minister telling you that there are no press as you watch it on your television.

It wasn't just Kuenssberg by all accounts either though. I'm lead to believe sky's Beth Rigby and ITVs Paul Brand did the same.

The press is supposed to hold power to account, not smear a man stating what he can see and we all know to be true. That's an assault on the truth.

His opinion about the lack of nurses becomes almost secondary in the face of that.

The NHS is the sacred cow in the UK, and in Leave Land the man in the video is stating what so many Leavers also agree with.

Whilst many didn't believe the bus for a second, they do value the NHS and see it as a priority.

Yes, Red.

It's just extraordinary.

Violetparis · 18/09/2019 18:25

LK also retweeted a tweet from the father of the baby which is the same as naming him in public and opens him up to all sorts of abuse. Not good at all when the poor man is worrying about his sick child.

TheCaddyisaBaddie · 18/09/2019 18:28

Pmk

Violetparis · 18/09/2019 18:28

The focus of the story should be the Prime Minister blatently lying rather than a member of the public's political affiliatuon.

Violetparis · 18/09/2019 18:29

typo - should say affiliation

Peregrina · 18/09/2019 18:31

The Labour activist thing is therefore irrelevant. It's all about the optics and Johnson is seen lying about the NHS.

It would have been more powerful with a Tory activist - or former Tory activist.

What did Laura Kuenssberg do or say? She seemed visibly disappointed last week when the Benn Bill passed.

FannyBiggetywitch · 18/09/2019 18:34

"there's no press here"..." who are these people? "...points at camera crew Hmm...such blatant lies Angry

BoreOfWhabylon · 18/09/2019 18:34

pmk

RedToothBrush · 18/09/2019 18:35

We are in this mess because the press failed to focus on the right things and instead played this game of 'both siderisms'

Objective is finding the truth, not just hearing from both sides. If one person says it's raining outside and another person says it's not, it's not the job of the media to put both those people on TV. It's the job of the media to go outside and see if it's raining.

Why didn't they go and find out how many staff were on the ward? Why didn't they find out if it was short staffed?

Instead 'oh he's a Labour activist'.

Fuck off this isn't impartiality. It's quite the opposite.

I would actually enjoy watching BoZo go into my daughter's school. Plenty of the kids there know exactly who he is...out of the mouths of babes! Would love for them to all be putting their hands up and shouting out "You're the twat that got stuck on the zip wire - I can DO zip wires and I'm 6!" or "Why don't you brush your hair properly?" or "Do you have any kids?" Grin

TheMShip · 18/09/2019 18:38

Why didn't they go and find out how many staff were on the ward? Why didn't they find out if it was short staffed?

And by the time someone does do this, it's too late. The moment has passed, the impressions are formed.

tobee · 18/09/2019 18:38

Again it's chasing the story, trying to be first with the scoop over being balanced/objective/unbiased.

LizzieSiddal · 18/09/2019 18:39

I cannot believe she has linked to him on her Twitter.

She’s basically inviting people to pile on to him. She’s a bloody disgrace!

RedToothBrush · 18/09/2019 18:40

It still could be one of those moments when a politician is completely floored by a member of the public...

Do you remember Gordon Brown bitching about a member of the public whilst still miked up?

I wanted Laura K to be good in this job when she was appointed as BBC first woman chief political correspondent.

LizzieSiddal · 18/09/2019 18:40

She’s got 5300 comments on the link Tweet.

TheMShip · 18/09/2019 18:41

Do you remember Gordon Brown bitching about a member of the public whilst still miked up?

Who doesn't? You're right. There's still time for the evening news to pick this up and talk to the hospital.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/09/2019 18:42

Even if BJ caved & "requested" an extension

https://www.ft.com/content/2c87359a-d61a-11e9-8367-807ebd53ab77

"consider what the current situation looks like from the perspective of the European Council,
whose members are the prime ministers and presidents.

This body does not take orders from parliaments, nor from judges in courts in the nation states.

If Mr Johnson were to write a letter asking for a Brexit extension,
the other prime ministers and presidents would surely ask him, in a closed-door session, whether he really meant it.

They may act against his unofficial advice, but I would not bet on this.

And some have their own agenda.

Hoooo · 18/09/2019 18:43

I'm not on twitter...what kind of replies??

Apileofballyhoo · 18/09/2019 18:43

longtimeago Lovely, lovely dog.

It's terrible and I wrote this post yesterday or the day before and then deleted it, but LK makes me so angry I think things like 'I hate her' and mentally call her names. And I should reserve that for JRM, BJ, NF, DC and their ilk. Though, complicity.

MaxNormal · 18/09/2019 18:43

Popping up again to say that I've had an issue with LK for years wrt her biases. She's been one of the worst culprits for attacking Corbyn and her partiality on the Palestine issue is atrocious.

lonelyplanetmum · 18/09/2019 18:49

A late Prorogue Mess Kuenssberg

Adesignforstrife · 18/09/2019 18:49

BigChoc that scenario was explored in last week's Talking Politics v convincingly (Johnson delivers letter together with informal message to the contrary)
