The Supreme Court case continues
(ruling possible Friday but likely Monday)

The new NI proposal is bollocks and Johnson didn't get why until it was discussed in Europe.

There was a press conference in Luxembourg which looks good for Johnson.

Johnsons approval ratings are up.

And we are making no obvious progress to anything but no deal...

Father of lies. On “no press here” day. Any other politician would be fucked forever after today.

TheElementsSong · 18/09/2019 17:11

Loving the "WTF are you doing?" facial expression on pigeon's cat!

OublietteBravo · 18/09/2019 17:11

PMK.

pamperramper · 18/09/2019 17:18

So if proroguing was unlawful, what happens? Nothing?

thecatfromjapan · 18/09/2019 17:18

Thanks. Red, and thanks, BigChoc.

thecatfromjapan · 18/09/2019 17:19

Apologies for my misconstrual, And.

RedToothBrush · 18/09/2019 17:26

So if proroguing was unlawful, what happens? Nothing

It's two part

The court has to find
a) the case is judicible
b) unconstitutional

If it doesn't find either then nothing happens

I think that in theory Johnson could also be found to have done something unlawful (as well as unconstitutional) if they decide the manner in which he has behaved breaks the law in another way.

In in either England or Scotland ....

dontcallmelen · 18/09/2019 17:29

PMK thank you Red & everyone else, oh Also I totally agree with your post upthread, how the fuck does he do it he must made of super strength Teflon nothing sticks.

DGRossetti · 18/09/2019 17:31

Unless I'm a bit dim there are 4 possible outcomes ?

English verdict: uphold-Scottish verdict uphold
English verdict: uphold-Scottish verdict overturn
English verdict: overturn-Scottish verdict uphold
English verdict: overturn-Scottish verdict overturn

the emboldened one is the one Boris would want/need to be able to continue his Long March. Any other combination is ... interesting.

I look forward to being corrected and being able to slink back to regular expressions ....

NoWordForFluffy · 18/09/2019 17:33

Don't forget the NI element being heard tomorrow.

MockersthefeMANist · 18/09/2019 17:35

Tomorrow we get John Major's lawyer, not John Major.

In Majorspeak, I am not inconsiderably disappointed.

DGRossetti · 18/09/2019 17:40

Don't forget the NI element being heard tomorrow.

That's a bit different as the NI court didn't give a ruling ?

NotaRealLawyer · 18/09/2019 17:42

Any links re NI hearing NoWordForFluffy? Smile
When I was well, I spent some time there, leading up to, and post GFA.
It's close to my heart.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/09/2019 17:45

The NI Court ruled that a no deal Brexit and whether it affected the peace process were a political, not legal, decision. So it's different in that it's not about prorogation. It is still an appeal about whether something is justiciable, however.

Chris Davies MEP @chrisdaviesLD
European Parliament has just voted 544-126 in support of UK being given an article 50 extension should the request be made. #StopBrexit

Phew! I found you all. Its not often you run out of road.

Good to see the outcome of the European Parliament’s vote on an article 50 extension towards the end of the last thread.

boatyardblues · 18/09/2019 17:54

Ha! Excellent xpost.

RedToothBrush · 18/09/2019 18:00

I think Johnson has fucked up this afternoon with the guy saying "there are no press here" as he's filmed and you can hear cameras going off in the background.

The Labour activist thing is therefore irrelevant. It's all about the optics and Johnson is seen lying about the NHS.

Take a look at this with that in mind

Paul Waugh@paulwaugh
No.10 source on hospital father being Labour activist: “That doesn’t change a thing. He’s the parent of a child going through NHS treatment.

"If he’d been a Tory blue voting for 10 yrs, if you’d a poor experience of your child in the NHS I’m pretty sure you’d feel the same way”

Why would they make a point about doing this is if Johnson hadn't fucked it?

Johnson was totally off guard and rattled so he reverted to form and just lied.

I think Laura Kuenssberg has been damaged - badly - by this story, too.

She's heading towards the point of no return, quickly.

I don't understand why she'd slash and burn a career, personal credibility & obvious talent for this administration. All the access in the world surely isn't worth the damage it's going to bring her, surely?

BestIsWest · 18/09/2019 18:16

Sorry, what story with Laura Kuenssberg? Been out all day and not caught up yet.

thecatfromjapan · 18/09/2019 18:19

Best
LK's Twitter response to the story of man in hospital telling Johnson the NHS cuts affected his daughter's care & asking him how he dared use the NHS for a photo-opportunity. To which, Johnson denied the existence of the - very physically evident - press.

James Eadie was incredibly somewhat disingenuous in saying the suggestion ultimately that the PM was concerned to stymie parliament, whatever on earth that means" Hmm in front of the Supreme Court.

But it just made him look small.
