Brexit

If there were a GE tomorow

And Jo Swinspn went in to bat with the Lib Dems with only one issue: 'vote lib dem and we'll stop Brexit for good and then call another GE', would you vote for them?

I think that I would, if I believed that they would stick to their word and have a full GE with other things to offer later.

No.

What do you think would be the outcome? Most likely a coalition which lets them wriggle out of 2nd GE and lets either of the other 2 "compromise" on a 2nd Ref. If it's Labour led would also need the SNP and Indyref2.

Random18 · 13/09/2019 16:59

No.

For me it’s not about stopping Brexit anymore it’s about stopping Tories/ No Deap.

If LD vote would mean my Tory MP lost his seat then yes they would have my vote.

But that also applies to Labour / greens

AnnaMariaDreams · 13/09/2019 17:00

Yes, but I think I’ll vote for them anyway next time, unless the Tory rebels form a party/ join Change UK.

Peregrina · 13/09/2019 17:39

Well, I would, but I would anyway, because it's the only way in my Constituency to keep the Tory out.

Now if I were in the neighbouring Constituency, with a rebel Tory possibly standing against a Johnson Tory, and Labour and LibDem traditionally coming nowhere, I would be in real difficulty as to how to cast my vote.

Topseyt · 14/09/2019 19:55

Yes, I would and often have in the past. In our constituency it seems the best way to register a tactical vote as it is a Conservative stranglehold.

prettybird · 14/09/2019 22:20

No. Because I can vote SNP instead Grin

howabout · 15/09/2019 07:56

Where do people see the LibDems winning seats? I would suggest Putney, Richmond and Sheffield Hallam? On the other side I think they will lose 3 of their 4 in Scotland and North Norfolk.

MustardScreams · 15/09/2019 08:00

No.

I still haven’t forgotten the coalition and certainly haven’t forgiven. And the fact that JS is so against a Labour coalition to oust the Tories is baffling to me.

The only way I’d vote for them would be to get rid of the Tory MP in my constituency. But they (Tories) only beat Labour by 507 votes last election, so I will be voting Labour as they’re the safe bet.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 15/09/2019 08:02

No, because I remember 2010 and how they “compromised” on so many of their red lines in exchange for power.

DullPortraits · 15/09/2019 08:05

I wanted to vote lib dem last GE but we didn't have one to vote for where we lived at the time.. our choice was labour conservatives or UKIP 🙄 so if thats the case again then i guess i wont be able to vote 🤔

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/09/2019 08:38

I'd be tempted to vote for the Brexit Party for the sole purpose of breaking up the Tory vote. Trouble is, I don't think my hand would physically let me...

howabout · 15/09/2019 08:48

Myimaginarycat anyone but Tory has the same effect.

YeOldeTrout · 15/09/2019 09:40

I'll vote LD anyway.

I'm one of the experts, an immigrant, voted Remain so expected to STFU forever. I like rule of law & process & minority rights & the GFA. The Tories completely reject people like me.

I guess I could vote Labour but strategically they just divide the left vote here (and I don't like Corbyn).

twofingerstoEverything · 15/09/2019 09:57

Yes, because they're the only party likely to see off the sitting Tory incumbent (massive Tory safe seat here). Reading our present MP's facebook page, the outraged Leavers are planning to vote for the Brexit party and will 'never vote Tory again'. Hopefully that will split his vote, giving the runner up - usually the LibDems - a look in.

averylongtimeago · 15/09/2019 10:06

I won't be. The best bet in our constituency to get rid of the Tory mp is to vote labour.

fedup21 · 15/09/2019 11:37

Same here

AgentProvocateur · 15/09/2019 11:40

I’m in JW’s constituency ATM and I think she’d struggle to retain her seat.

JW?

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/09/2019 12:11

True, @howabout. I hadn't really thought it through when I posted. I think what I mean is that if Tory Brexiteers votes for the Brexit Party that might be enough to starve the Tory vote without actually letting the Brexity lot win.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 15/09/2019 12:16

No, because revoking A50 is undemocratic, and I say that as a remain supporter. A referendum specifically on Brexit, based on a realistic deal or remain, fine, but not completely ignoring the leave voters. I can disagree with them but still respect their right to be heard.

Plus, a GE needs to be decided on all the issues, domestic and international, and Swinson's voting record is a disgrace.

prettybird · 15/09/2019 12:17

She means JS (Jo Swinson)Wink

(I've met AgentProvocateur in RL and she's lovely Smile)

MrsMaiselsMuff · 15/09/2019 12:20

Agent makes a good point. East Dunbartonshire is not a safe seat for the Lib Dems at all. The same as Uxbridge is not for Johnson.

A GE could turn things completely on their heads.

fedup21 · 15/09/2019 12:55

Ah, thanks @prettybird.

I just wish our Tory MP wasn’t such a twat and wasn’t so popular-nobody else stands a chance round here. I have always voted and always will, but it will simple never have any impact.

I wish they’d scrap the FPTP system.

AgentProvocateur · 15/09/2019 12:58

Sorry, I did mean JS. Fat fingers. (Waves to @prettybird, who’s also lovely Wink)

HollowTalk · 15/09/2019 13:13

If the Lib Dems had any chance of getting in, then I'd go for this like a shot. It's what I wish Labour was saying. I think there are plenty in Labour who would say this, but JC doesn't seem to know what he wants, and certainly doesn't want what I want. I want a Labour Party I can vote for.
