Sorry if I sound completely clueless (because I am!) and annoying, but I really want to understand wtf is going on.

So, wtf is going on? 😂

I keep seeing things about stock piling, food and medicinal shortages, it's actually so worrying!

So, what's going on? And should we actually be as worried as people are making out?

Explain which bit?

heylyla · 28/08/2019 16:07

@bellinisurge just in general really. What's all this about stockpiling? Should we actually be as worried as we are?

Op, I am a general prepper and I despise No Deal.
Taking the politics first: Johnson has taken steps to limit the ability of Opposition MPs to stop No Deal. He has done this by shortening the time Parliament can meet. This is probably a reaction to yesterday's Opposition MPs agreeing to join forces in Parliament to stop No Deal.
Dangling in the air is the possibility of a Vote of No Confidence in Parliament against the cure government. Does the Opposition have enough votes to succeed in such a vote? And if it does, will there be a general election. And do we need another Brexit extension to get it.
There's more detail than that. Others may have more to say. Go on the BBC website and look for Reality Check explainers.

No Deal messes with our supply chains. Our supermarkets rely on what is called a Just In Time supply chain. Might sort itself out but not quickly.

It doesn't hurt to think about getting a three day buffer of food in. Forget Brexit imagine you are snowed in for three days. Breakfast dinner and tea (I'm northern, it's what we call it). Hygiene stuff. Pet stuff. Treat stuff.
No one can recreate a supermarket in their home. Who has the space or the money. Three days lets you suss our your local situation without having to go to the shops when it might be unpleasant.

Hoooo · 28/08/2019 16:26

Oh ffs.
If you haven't been bothered to learn about the biggest crisis facing our democracy since WW2 then.....
Read a fucking book.
Listen to a poscast.
Do some research.
Ffs!

bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 16:29

I mean current not cure Smile

Kaddm · 28/08/2019 16:37

Nobody knows what’s going on.

It’s chaotic and the leaders of both main parties are nutters.

Of course we should stockpile. Nobody has any idea what’s to come, apart from fuck ups of course.

Theworldisfullofgs · 28/08/2019 16:43

It's a ruddy mess and some people think that's great

Many of us don't.

Did you vote in the referendum?

darkcloudsandsunnyskies · 28/08/2019 16:43

The general gist is a storm is coming get down the supermarket and empty the shelves.

heylyla · 28/08/2019 16:44

@bellinisurge thank you for that! The future is truly hanging in the balance of idiots Sad

Oh @Hoooo i work evenings and the dc don't give me enough time or space in the day to read a book or watch TV. So I'm educating myself now, aren't I? Are you always so rude and annoying?

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 16:46

Got to be honest @heylyla , you got me at a weak and conciliatory moment. I am normally sweary and dismissive. Please do what you can to educate yourself about it. The BBC is far from perfect but it is a start. Don't fall down internet rabbit holes on this.

Hoooo · 28/08/2019 16:54

Pretty much :)

People asking moronic questions does that to me.

Oddly, I have quite a busy life too....!

Try the westminsterenders threads and bellinis stockpiling threads. Good place to start.

If you DO actually want to learn about this mess, I recommend Fintan O Toole's book.

Btw, did you vote in the referendum?

Hoooo · 28/08/2019 16:56

I wouldn't say that bellini 😊

bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 17:03

@Hoooo 😂😂😂

greentheme23 · 28/08/2019 17:04

greentheme23 · 28/08/2019 17:05

Don't tell me you voted leave too?
