No deal Brexit - more prepared than we think?

I posted a thread on here recently about being terrified of a no deal Brexit. Since then I’ve felt a little bit reassured after reading this article about how Britain is preparing/prepared for a no deal. Sorry in advance for the Daily Mail link!

It does sound like we’re more together than I’d thought (although I may just be wishful thinking, hopelessly naive, clutching at straws or all of the above!)

They should be - we don't have to accommodate the interests of the other 27 countries in the deals. Cheaper, Tunisian olive oil being just one example ("In 2018 alone, Tunisian olive oil producers have won over 70 awards, which include two dozen gold awards at international olive oil competitions held in Los Angeles, Athens, Italy, London, New York and Japan")

Hate to burst your bubble of self doom, but the shelves are not going to be empty. All supermarkets have been stockpiling for months and months. Every warehouse in the country is creaking under weight of stockpiling. We are gonna be okay. Project fear has really seemed to work on some people. The world will not stop turning because we are independent again.

No one is able to stockpile fresh fruit and veg or insulin.

The insulin and medication supplies have already been secured two years ago.

There may be small delays to some some fruit and veg in the very very short term, but it will soon be ironed out. Countries will still want to sell veg and fruit to us from around the world just as they always have.

So yes, absolutely I have zero concerns about food or medicine.

The I think it is prudent for supermarkets to prepare for delays, so why would they do anything else? There hardly going to want to compromise their profit margins. If people want to stockpile hysterically or otherwise, it is a matter for them. They can always use their stash for winter rations of it snows.

Er, because if we crash out with no deal, we trade on WTO terms which means (according to British Retail Consortium figures) a 42% tariff on imported cheddar, 46% on mozzarella, 40% on beef, 40% on lamb, 21% on tomatoes to name a few.

I am just remembering the empty shelves that seemed to remain empty for weeks after those 2 days of heavy snow winter before last.

Clav, do you promise to stick around on these boards after Brexit? Really promise? Because I hope you're right, I really do. I hope the UK turns into a European Singapore, revelling in our tax free haven, building government housing for all and being rich and happy. But we won't and I want the people who tried to convince us to own up. Petty and vindictive I know.
