To be terrified of no deal Brexit

Having just watched the headlines, it really does seem that Boris is hellbent on taking us out with no deal. The fact he’s thrown down the gauntlet to the EU stating that he won’t come to the table unless they drop the backstop - well of course they’re not going to do that, and Boris won’t back down, so we will be leaving with no deal.

What do you think will be the repercussions of this? I’m terrified I’m going to lose my job and my home. If I’m worried then I can’t imagine what people reliant on various meds are going through.

I think I might stop watching the news as it just makes me anxious.

I left as I wanted to see the big wide world. The day I got my British passport, and no longer needed to go through the laborious, expensive process of applying for visas to travel in Europe, was one of the happiest of my life.

SaskiaRembrandt · 30/07/2019 18:50

Are you telling me that in Africa everyone has a brick home, running water, access to Doctors.... Yes I am generalizing, but I am trying to make it clear we are not headed that way, so will not be search to name a place so you can tear the answer apart...

Not everyone in the UK has that. Seriously, stop digging, you just making it worse.

MaxNormal · 30/07/2019 18:52

In America not everyone has access to doctors and a brick home, hell probably in parts of Europe, definitely in Asia. It's still pretty offensive to generalise a whole, huge, varied and complex continent that way.
And as a pp pointed out, there are people here, in the UK, reliant on foodbanks to feed themselves and their families.

prettybird · 30/07/2019 18:53

As Sky News (that well known bastion of left-wing, woolly minded liberals Wink) said recently: there is one economist who thinks that a No Deal Brexit will be wonderful (even though he admits that UK farming would be collateral damage Confused) and that's Patrick Minford (Maggie's old favourite Hmm) versus hundreds of economists who think otherwise. Hmm

(and yes, the newscaster did say "hundreds" Grin).

SaskiaRembrandt · 30/07/2019 18:53

Yes I am generalizing, but I am trying to make it clear we are not headed that way, so will not be search to name a place so you can tear the answer apart.

But, if your answer was credible no one would be able to tear it apart.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 30/07/2019 18:55

If you believe everyone in the UK has that, you genuinely have no grasp on reality.

You've yet to apologise for your horrendously offensive comments generalising about Africa, nor have you answered the posters actually from Africa asking perfectly reasonable questions.

Stop digging yourself into an even deeper hole and just admit you haven't a fucking clue about reality and that you fucked up with your horrid comparison.

mummmy2017 · 30/07/2019 18:56

Blame the Charities then, because they portray Africa like this on the TV, when they are begging for our money...

SaskiaRembrandt · 30/07/2019 18:58

Blame the Charities then, because they portray Africa like this on the TV, when they are begging for our money...

I think you'll find they are portraying very specific places, not the entire, massive, and very diverse continent.

TheElementsSong · 30/07/2019 19:03

One has to wonder, when somebody pontificates so confidently and yet so incorrectly on the state of entire continents, how one should take said somebody's other confident pontifications about (say) Brexit Grin

prettybird · 30/07/2019 19:04

My neighbour is a GP with particular responsibility for the homeless. Another neighbour heads up the (Drug) Addictions Team for the city.

If only everyone did have access to a shelter with 4 walls, let alone a home Sad ....and according to my neighbour, things are much better here than in, say, London.

And that's before you get into the need for Food Banks Sad and how the head teacher at ds' old school describes how some of the pupils literally don't know where their next meal is coming from Sad. At least they gets FSMs - but the city is now having to subsidise the equivalent of soup kitchens over the school holidays, to ensure that children don't go hungry ShockAngry

"Blame the Charities then, because they portray Africa like this on the TV, when they are begging for our money..."
Christ Almighty. Anyone would think you believe snapshots without considering them in more detail and then make ridiculous judgments based on s lack of proper analysis .... no, wait

prettybird · 30/07/2019 19:09

I bet mummy2017 , like some ignorant Americans, didn't actually comprehend that Africa is a whole giant continent with many different countries within it. Hmm

The Mercator projection has a lot to answer for Wink

Cosentyx · 30/07/2019 19:09

Once, only once, I had this boyfriend who misused capital letters. It really drove me round the twist. I dumped him fast. If only this were possible with the rest of the population, life would be so much pleasanter.

mummmy2017 · 30/07/2019 19:11

Sorry, but there are massive camps in Africa they exist, the country is not important, the fact they hold people so poor they don't have a change of clothing is what I was commenting on...
So no I don't intend to apologise.

Lonelycrab · 30/07/2019 19:12

Mummy the only person that suggests we will become “like Africa” whatever that actually means is you.

However, a no deal Brexit will lead to job/business losses, an increase in food bank use and more and more people and families being driven into poverty. If you can be bothered to listen to the reasons why that is an extremely likely outcome if we no deal, then you need to accept you simply don’t care.

Cosentyx · 30/07/2019 19:13

the country is not important, the fact they hold people so poor they don't have a change of clothing is what I was commenting on..

WTAF?! Wow, 'country not important' just insert sweeping and erroneous generalisation about an entire continent, then other everyone in it with 'they'. Are you Donald Trump or Boris Johnson? Mind.blown.

SaskiaRembrandt · 30/07/2019 19:15

Actually, the country does matter, for all sorts of reasons!

And we have plenty of people in the UK who live in tents and don't have a change of clothes. A no deal Brexit will dramatically increase their numbers.,

jasjas1973 · 30/07/2019 19:16

mummy2017

You do like to blame everyone else for your shortcomings, not your fault you know nothing about Africa or the very deep areas of poverty throughout the continent or the rape, war, disease and starvation.
Do you know nothing about ebola ravaging parts of Africa? or the war in the CAR ?

Please take ownership of your ignorance and read, perhaps a quality newspaper for starters? and if you can't read properly, take some evening classes.

Morgan12 · 30/07/2019 19:16

Yep I'm terrified. DH job should be ok. But I do know people who's may not be. It's scary for sure.

And just wait till Trump gets those tiny hands on the NHS.

Only consolation for me is that I'm Scottish. If we don't get independence after this I'll need to look into moving elsewhere.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 30/07/2019 19:19

At least they gets FSMs - but the city is now having to subsidise the equivalent of soup kitchens over the school holidays, to ensure that children don't go hungry

Our LA has had to do the same.

mummmy2017
Your ignorance and prejudice is absolutely astounding. Attitudes like yours are a damn good case for some kind of IQ test before being placed on the electoral register.

The irony being, the stupidest among us will be the least affected!

Christ almighty.v

mummmy2017 · 30/07/2019 19:33

So your agreeing there is poverty in Africa, then having a go at me for saying there is poverty.... Wow...
Yet again in the Echo Chamber the voice is saying your views count, but mine are wrong. So how come enough want my way that your going to be out in under 100 days and your views are being ignored.
It seems no one is listening to you.

Mamamia456 · 30/07/2019 19:33

Jocasta2018 - I'm in the south and I haven't seen anything like that in the pharmacies either. You can't stockpile medication where I am either as you can only request a repeat prescription in the week before your present one runs out. Also still loads of EU doctors and nurses at my local hospital.

And to the poster who said about missing doses of medication, that is a stupid thing to say.

Nothingcomesforfree · 30/07/2019 19:37

You all know the point Mummy2017 was trying to put across.
You’re not stupid.
But no, you chose to be pedantic because it’s easier to give someone a good kicking especially when there’s more than one of you.

We will all be affected. So you better start getting on with your fellow Brits rather than pulling everyone down.

Cosentyx · 30/07/2019 19:37

you're

Cosentyx · 30/07/2019 19:40

So you better start getting on with your fellow Brits rather than pulling everyone down.

Haahaa! Nope. I'm Scottish (dual national, actually). Not interested in 'getting on' with the ignorant guff who voted for this shower of shite with their petty orders of 'better start getting on'. We voted nearly 63% remain. Time to start moving off from this farce of a union.
