Brexit

To be terrified of no deal Brexit

Having just watched the headlines, it really does seem that Boris is hellbent on taking us out with no deal. The fact he’s thrown down the gauntlet to the EU stating that he won’t come to the table unless they drop the backstop - well of course they’re not going to do that, and Boris won’t back down, so we will be leaving with no deal.

What do you think will be the repercussions of this? I’m terrified I’m going to lose my job and my home. If I’m worried then I can’t imagine what people reliant on various meds are going through.

I think I might stop watching the news as it just makes me anxious.

So how come enough want my way that your going to be out in under 100 days and your views are being ignored

Well, if they are all like, then no surprise!

The UK will still be in the EU on November 1st.

jasjas1973 · 30/07/2019 19:44

...like you

frumpety · 30/07/2019 19:47

I kind of feel that it has been left far too late to no deal, if the daft buggers in Government had done it a few weeks after the referendum, the shock to both the UK and the EU would have been huge, but I think a deal would have been negotiated quickly.
Three years later and the EU have done all the preparations necessary for no deal to mitigate its impact on them, EU companies have quietly gone about doing the same.
The UK government on the other hand is going to send out a pamphlet, quite soon, possibly in a few weeks when they get back off their holidays.

93 days to go. Parliament returns on the 3rd of September. Does anyone honestly think we will be ready in that timeframe ?

prettybird · 30/07/2019 19:49

Ditto Cosentyx Smile

40 years ago I considered myself British and Scottish and European (spent a year in France as part of my degree explaining that and that I most definitely wasn't English Wink). Now I'm only Scottish and European Grin

SaskiaRembrandt · 30/07/2019 19:51

You all know the point Mummy2017 was trying to put across.
You’re not stupid.

No one was pretending not to understand; I think we were all astonished and horrified that someone could cheerfully admit to knowing nothing about such an important issue, and then expect us all to pander to her ignorance.

It's willful ignorance that got us into this shitheap.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 30/07/2019 19:52

That's some dead cat you've chucked on the table there, mummmy, even by your usual incomprehensible standards.

It's fun, but in the long run might be best not to engage with this ridiculous 'argument'.

Coppersulphate · 30/07/2019 19:54

I don't think for one minute that Boris is bluffing.
He has no history of bluffing.
I think, and hope that he gets us out of the EU one way or another by 31st October.

All this scare mongering has been going on since before the referendum.... remember George Osborn saying we would need an immediate emergency budget if we voted to leave. We were going to be £3000 worse off if we voted leave. Neither happened.
Stop spreading panic.

Mamamia456 · 30/07/2019 19:56

Cosentyx - pleasanter? so much more pleasant surely.

TheElementsSong · 30/07/2019 19:57

So you better start getting on with your fellow Brits rather than pulling everyone down.

(1) In what specific way are we to carry out this "getting on with"?
(2) In what specific way are we "pulling down"?

Justaboutdone · 30/07/2019 19:57

Coppersphulate you may be right.

But I know my people and I can pretty much guarantee you that if he does that then the UK is done and dusted.

Scotland WILL leave. Enough of this shot. Enough of us been treated as if we are shit on a Tory PM’s shoe.

Oh and I was a Unionist up until 2016! And live in England 😂😂😂 but I am so angry for my countrymen

jasjas1973 · 30/07/2019 19:59

You not noticed how the markets are reacting to no-deal? currency valuation is a direct measure of the confidence in an economy.

Or how farmers are now starting to realise what will happen to their exports?

Doris has been pro eu almost all of his political life, especially as Mayor of London, he could do anything now.

I do agree that Osbourne was an idiot with his scare stories.

mummmy2017 · 30/07/2019 20:03

I just get so feed up with the head in the sand attitude.
That no one will have a penny to their name if Brexit happens, no food , no medical supplies, no one to trade with...
The way anything you say gets twisted and warped into something evil.
All so people can pretend it will be reversed.

Lonelycrab · 30/07/2019 20:06

You all know the point Mummy2017 was trying to put across.
You’re not stupid

Mummy said we’re not going to end up like Africa. This, despite the ignorance that Africa is a continent with both skyscrapers, wealthy happy communities and also awful levels of war and deprivation....implies that things cannot get any worse here when there are also unprecedented levels of homelessness, poverty and generally neglected regions right here and now in this country, soon set to increase because of the situation with Brexit.

The stupidity, ignorance and basic messed up thinking is mind blowing frankly.

SaskiaRembrandt · 30/07/2019 20:07

It's not remainers who have their heads in the sand. I don't think that phrase means what you think it means.

Nothingcomesforfree · 30/07/2019 20:14

Cosentyx Well that’s a cunning plan.So how long to get another independence vote for Scotland? Bearing in mind the doubts of the Referendum, the question and outcome if you voted Independence would have to be absolutely watertight.

And obviously if we in the UK have left than Scotland will be all alone having to do the same as the rest of the UK. Because I have serious doubts as to whether the EU would be in any position take you in, even if you could prove to them you were in a position to join.

drcb83 · 30/07/2019 20:22

I work at a foodbank in the SE. After the introduction of universal credit we had a 53% increase in people needing our services. After a no deal brexit we are expecting a similar increase. Uncertainty hits the most needy the hardest.

Nothingcomesforfree · 30/07/2019 20:41

Mummy said we’re not going to end up like Africa. This, despite the ignorance that Africa is a continent

She might of commented on an entire continent for a reason.
Top 10 GDP countries of Africa;
Nigeria . First page of google, an article from the Guardian ( 13 hours ago) about getting villagers to use toilets by 2025 and “Every year more than 70,000 children under five die in Nigeria from diarrhoea as a result of unsafe water and poor sanitation conditions”
Second South Africa. Very much first world apart from the bits that aren’t. And the crime.Londons not there yet.
Third . Egypt.
So yes, when she’s says we aren’t going to be like Africa that’s what she means,I assume.

And I agree that we have have homelessness and food banks. I disagree it’s unprecedented. Lots of poverty growing up in 70’s. What is different is the now massive gap between rich and poor. The dismissive attitude that it’s down to the rich working harder the poor making bad choices. Brexit will have everyone upping their game.

Socksontheradiator · 30/07/2019 20:42

@drcb83, I have been wondering if it would be useful to add a copy of Tin Can Cook by Jack Monroe to my next donation to the foodbank. Or would it be patronising and would they prefer money/more food.
I know I could ask them but I'd be embarrassed so I'm asking you Blush

Cosentyx · 30/07/2019 20:44

Cosentyx - pleasanter? so much more pleasant surely.

Afraid to burst your bubble and your sad endeavour, but both forms of the comparative are acceptable. Thank you for playing, please try again.

Cosentyx · 30/07/2019 20:46

Because I have serious doubts as to whether the EU would be in any position take you in, even if you could prove to them you were in a position to join.

Doubt away then! Knock yourself out. Still not interest in 'getting on' with so-called 'fellow Brits' whom I don't consider fellows at all. It seems I'm far from alone in this sentiment as well.

drcb83 · 30/07/2019 20:50

Socks, that is a lovely thought but would probably be best to look at what your local foodbank needs specifically at this moment. They will likely have a list on their website e.g. random pick - Aylesbury need the list of items here: aylesbury.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/donate-food/
Apart from that - most things are welcome but nothing fresh as it cannot be used. No homebaked goods
Biggest rule - no alcohol!
Money is always super useful as as well as overheads (e.g. warehouse space) we often give out some 50p pieces as people have sometimes run out of electricity and been sitting in the dark.
Every little helps so whatever you can do would be great. Hugs xx

Lonelycrab · 30/07/2019 20:58

She might of commented on an entire continent for a reason.

She commented on that by saying we, as a country, would never end up like Africa. But no one ever said that apart from her. So therefore everything in your post isn’t really relevant to anything, is it?

And unprecedented? The amount of homeless people seems to me worse than I ever remember. It will probably get a fair bit worse now.

Nothingcomesforfree · 30/07/2019 20:59

1) In what specific way are we to carry out this "getting on with"?
(2) In what specific way are we "pulling down"?

1)Looking for the opportunities. Yeah I know you absolutely can’t think of any. But you will.
2) Pulling it down by with relentless hyperbolic aggression.Of course you’re allowed, if it makes you feel better but it’s not helpful.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 30/07/2019 21:01

So yes, when she’s says we aren’t going to be like Africa that’s what she means,I assume.

Oh come off it.

Socksontheradiator · 30/07/2019 21:09

Thanks @drcb83, yes I have my local foodbank on fb and I do go by their list. They put out a big sos as stocks were low last weekend. I dropped a few bit in at the local supermarket last Monday and was thoroughly heartwarmed by the sight of the overflowing collection point.
Thank goodness for foodbank and facebook.
Appreciate your advice Flowers
