Your views?

Brexiteers were asked their reasons the other day. So I would like to ask Remainers

  • what do you think will happen, and what are you so afraid of?

The fact that Ms Weyand has been transferred to be head of EU international trade, and Mr Barnier is a hopeful to take Mr Junker's position is a very strong hint that the WA will not be looked at again, it is a 'take it or leave it' now. Whether it gets picked up and signed by the UK PM soon, or in a year is not that important to the EU now, they have more important things to look at than Brexit.

Bearbehind · 01/06/2019 19:25

The EU will not commence any negotiations until that already existing sparkly WA has the UK Prime Ministers paw print on it.

That is utter bollocks.

Find the source which explicitly states it and I’ll apologise profusely.

In the scenario you describe above we incorporate much of the content of the WA into a new agreement but it’s still not the same as signing this fucking WA.

Bearbehind · 01/06/2019 19:27

Anyway - We are clearly never going to agree and hopefully neither of us will ever be proved right because hopefully we’ll never get to no deal.

frumpety · 01/06/2019 19:31

Honestly you two, in the highly unlikely event that Brexit happens, something somewhere will be signed by some people who are employed to sign important stuff for a living. Call it THE or A or an entirely different name to WA, the EU has some red lines that they will stick to come hell or high water, so some aspects of the current WA will remain in place regardless. Smile

Bearbehind · 01/06/2019 19:34

That’s about the sum of it frumpety 😂

Frankiestein402 · 01/06/2019 19:36

If we don't sign the WA and don't get an extension, then we don't trade with the EU - that is not 'no deal' - not agreeing a trade deal after withdrawing is 'no deal' but even brexiteers understand we have to trade with the EU.

A pre-condition of entering trade negotiations with the EU is signing the equivalent of the WA, paying our debts and protecting ireland - if the optics are better by calling it a 'boris' fine - but it will cover the same ground as the WA.

Pretending the micro deals, that the EU will permit to get over a crash out, will represent any serious replacement for what we have is self delusion.

Until we pay our bills and protect the Irish border (the backstop) then as far as the EU are concerned we are a hostile 3rd country and I can't understand why anyone thinks they will do us any favours.

I am sure I have some Polish flavoured vodka too as a palate cleanser ( teeth descaler ) and I can arrange the Pringles as an amuse bouche if I stick some dip in a ramakin Grin

1tisILeClerc · 01/06/2019 19:44

I suppose bear baiting was frowned on years ago.

The only point in continuing this is that the bigger picture is the outright lies being told by UK politicians day in, day out and that by failing to admit that the WA will be signed is perpetuating the crap that so many in the UK are spouting. Ultimately there will be a little bit of a wriggle, but to suggest it at this point when so many don't understand the overall situation is crazy.
Maybe you should concentrate on the fact that if the new PM decides to 'crash out' with no deal, there is relatively little that parliament can do to stop it. Parliamentary procedure is getting to the limits of it's capability.

frumpety · 01/06/2019 19:53

We do know that Leclerc, we spend all day listening to them spouting this shit endlessly, we are blessed with a multitude of insincere, duplicitous and mendacious politicians. There is bugger all we can currently do about it, sorry Sad

Back to the drinks, I have rustled up some ginger ale, a lime and some half decent export strength non flavoured vodka if you would prefer ?

frumpety · 01/06/2019 19:58

Or a nice coffee if you are off the grog ?

1tisILeClerc · 01/06/2019 20:01

From Daily Fail a couple of days back:

Michel Barnier faced a backlash today after blaming Brexit on 'typically British nostalgia' for when the country was 'powerful'.

The EU's chief negotiator - and potentially the next commission president - gave the dismissive assessment as he warned Tory hopefuls Brussels will not renegotiate the deal it agreed with Theresa May.
The intervention, at a crucial point in the contest to succeed Mrs May, could inflame tensions with the UK once again.}

Being the DM the 'comments' section was suitably dismissive and inaccurate.

I have Pastis, wine and some nice Belgian beer here but as it is approaching bedtime it might just be cocoa for me.

frumpety · 01/06/2019 20:07

Pastis urgh , memories of the park and Pernod, circa 1987, still can't smell aniseed and not retch slightly Blush

mindproject · 01/06/2019 20:11

I think we will have a no deal Brexit which will be a disaster for most people. I can't decide how shit it will be; whether it's long queues in the shops for a £5 loaf of bread or civil war or the apocalypse. Nobody really knows how bad it is going to be.

ContinuityError · 01/06/2019 20:23

Pernod and black c1984 Frumpety - looked like you were bleeding to death if you threw up Envy

Bearbehind · 01/06/2019 20:24

Head banging on desk emoji required.

Yes, but that is in order to leave with a ‘deal’ - that has to be based on this WA.

If we leave on 31st October having not signed it that statement no longer stands.

The EU and the UK then need to negiotiate ‘no deal’ Brexit.

You are no better than the politicians you mention above; you are spouting lies too.

Everyone just needs to be more honest with this whole thing and point out the FACTS - neither over exaggerating or under estimating the realities.

FACT 1 - The EU will not reopen the WA in order to stop the UK leaving under ‘no deal’ Brexit

FACT 2 - if we don’t sign the WA we get ‘no deal’ Brexit

FACT 3 - In that event most of the contents of the WA will need to be agreed in order to reach any kind of future agreement but it becomes part of the next stage of negiotiations

FACT 4 - just because we don’t want a border and the EU don’t want a border doesn’t mean there won’t be one, WTO rules require some form of control or all other countries to get the same terms

1tisILeClerc · 01/06/2019 20:34

Whatever, My money is on Mr Barnier.

In their generosity, the EU have said (a 12 point plan published in Feb?) that they will allow planes, ships, trucks running under EU ONLY insurance, certifications etc, essentially food and medical aid to the UK.They have said that this is for up to 9 or 12 months only and is done mainly to help the EU producers, which just happens to be handy for the UK too. They can withdraw any or all of these concessions at any time at their discretion.

So basically, you are both saying that the EU Commission are going to ban Spanish truck drivers, driving Spanish trucks, from delivering Spanish tomatoes to the UK?

bellinisurge · 01/06/2019 21:04

I love the idea that until things settle down, EU businesses will be happy to expose their assets and stocks to No Deal uncertainty, because we are worth it.

Clavinova · 01/06/2019 21:14

Northern Ireland becomes the dumping ground of Europe.
Belfast becomes a major people trafficking hub

What happens at the border to prevent this now?

frumpety · 01/06/2019 21:38

Ah Clavinova my dearest, are you still trying to keep afloat the whole our borders are currently like leaky teabags ?

1tisILeClerc · 01/06/2019 21:43

Nursey has let me stay up.

No, By ripping up international treaties things get a bit tricky.
A bit like crashing your car a day after your insurance expired, you are not covered.
