I really am. It feels like we're hurtling towards no deal Brexit with a coward and idiot at the helm who couldnt organise a booze up in a brewery.
What are we heading for? Huge economic crash? War?

OP posts:
ConfusedDotty · 26/05/2019 23:46

Yes, they will be more than good and they will prosper. I hope the same for you too. Brexit will not change that. Copy and paste back in 12 months time if it's not true.

Badtasteflump · 26/05/2019 23:47

There is always shit hitting the fan somewhere in the world. 99.9% of the time here in the UK we're still here with a roof over our heads and food on the cupboards when it's all over. So as long as me & mine are ok, I'm not going to freak out about things I cannot change.

Oliversmumsarmy · 26/05/2019 23:53

I had in my class at school a few children from Iranian families who had fled Iran.

They were the lucky ones who dropped everything and ran leaving everything behind.

They were very rich in Iran but arrived with nothing and from a well to do house and neighbourhood they found themselves living in a rented council property in the North of England.

Blinkingblimey · 26/05/2019 23:53

Miljah sadly I’m not sure any of them have gone beyond Benidorm/insertyourfaveholsdest.....but I GODDAM hope they DO go and the encounter some of the brilliantly able minds that will keep this continent afloat. Maybe peeps should be watching the new sky ‘Chernobyl’ drama as an educational exercise....coz of course it’ll never happen🙄....neither will Fukushima🤦🏼‍♀️... those at least were accidents. Just imagine someone does it ‘accidentally on purpose” because they know NO ONE wants to be allied with us. Don’t kid yourselves - neither the US OR ASIA actually ‘need’ us!! We’re a teeny tiny bit of nothing in the Atlantic that has done well because we WERE the gateway to Europe where everyone spoke English. Oh yeh and the French are soooo much better educated they speak bloody brilliant English and failing that the Celtic tiger can be restored. #howcanyoubesoarrogant?

CurbsideProphet · 26/05/2019 23:54

@Gronky I sound silly here, but do we already have a trade deal with the countries where Novartis manufacture? There were some shortages of my medication in January, though they weren't widely reported. These are the sorts of things I haven't been able to find out. I doubt Boris Johnson would have any idea of how to negotiate over things like this. He couldn't even get his facts straight when trying to assist the British - Iranian woman being held over spying charges.

Antigonads · 26/05/2019 23:57

So now we are going to be nuked.

Because we only go to Benidorm.

Confused
Blinkingblimey · 27/05/2019 00:00

gronky - by your assertation that you believe NATO is in any way a backstop or in any way relevant with Trump at the helm you have given yourself away as clueless.

Kummerspeck · 27/05/2019 00:01

What about the uncertainty of Europe though? The EU pushing for more and more integration, southern countries having huge unemployment and poor economies, various banks teetering which could affect the Euro.

There is potential for staying in being just as bad as coming out. Both options scare me to be honest

Isthebigwomanhere · 27/05/2019 00:01

Honestly this is still absolutely hilarious 😂

Benidorm 😂😂😂

I love how you assume I'm of British heritage
How you probably think I'm some poor white uneducated racist.

You could not be more wrong.

I'm just not a war mongering drama queen

Miljah · 27/05/2019 00:04

dotty Nope, not rising to that. Unless you genuinely believe that your children will 'more than prosper', post Brexit, in which case I hope your children have better analytical skills than you.

Blinkingblimey · 27/05/2019 00:07

isthebigwomanhere - sorry, Vlad 😳 is that you doll?! 😁

ineedaholidaynow · 27/05/2019 00:08

So if the pro Brexit campaigners admit it could take 30 to 50 years to feel the benefit, why the hell are people voting for it. That is our children's futures going down the drain. And why are areas who have benefited from EU grants in support of Brexit, I just don't get it?

Miljah · 27/05/2019 00:08

big noticing the growing tides of intolerance in our country, knowing how people with a lot of cash to be made have influenced the Referendum, and thus; worrying how this may pan out, especially having parents who lived through WW2, thus watched how a shouty minor nationalist party morphed into The Third Reich... this isn't warmongering, which means agitating for war, it is a warning for where we may be heading.

Drasticaction · 27/05/2019 00:10

Everyone is leaving UK. To where?
German economy slowing? Teetering on egde of crisis. ...

Italy on brink...

France... in absolute turmoil!

Netherland strong far right surge's, same Austria....

And I can't see big business re location to Romania or Czech right now.

There are Just sooo many more attractive places right now! And UK economy still going strong.

Antigonads · 27/05/2019 00:10

The French seem to have voted for the far right.

Drasticaction · 27/05/2019 00:12

The only thing to stop far right is by stop telling people what your doing to them and starts asking them instead!

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/05/2019 00:14

I am not terrified, but I am clearing out cupboards, and planting veg... because I am erm not convinced it is not going to go tits up and forewarned is forearmed so to speak.

MoominMantra · 27/05/2019 00:15

Well the Tories don't really do 'asking' @Drasticaction they've been happily decimating every good thing about the UK, conveniently hiding it all under this Brexit fiasco.

Miljah · 27/05/2019 00:17

ineedaholiday interesting that you mention this.

I'm an NHS HPC, Band 6. We've lost loads of EU staff; and, post the removal of the bursary, we're not getting enough local applicants so (our managers who don't care about quality) have recruited from Nigeria and Jamaica.

One method my Trust, and others, is using, is lowering the entry requirements for the degrees, via Access Courses which they pay for(and provide...). Leaving aside my own 'surprise' at how some HCAs are only a year off from entering the 3 A level degree course... I am stunned at how many of these 30-40 year old HCAs don't have any qualifications... nothing.

No suggestion of GCSE English or Maths. Some of these are 30, not 60 (which would be more understandable).

If I'm going to be blunt, this lack of analytical thinking is where brainless votes for no-manifesto, single-issue parties - comes in.

Gronky · 27/05/2019 00:20

I sound silly here, but do we already have a trade deal with the countries where Novartis manufacture?

It depends on the specific medication, some are manufactured within the UK itself and I would need a few days to check on the supply chain for their China and US facilities (which may pass through Europe, either as a matter of logistics or for final subproduction). It's not a silly question at all.

There were some shortages of my medication in January, though they weren't widely reported. These are the sorts of things I haven't been able to find out. I doubt Boris Johnson would have any idea of how to negotiate over things like this*

Blinkingblimey, perhaps you should read up on what NATO actually does (or, more specifically, what agreements exist) as well as what Trump has actually changed thus far (to save you some time, nothing at all). He made a lot of noise about reductions in US contributions last year but nothing solid has been altered in terms of US-NATO capabilities or arrangements. His most recent comments on the matter were an affirmation of a '100%' commitment to US support.

EugenesAxe · 27/05/2019 00:22

Probably me Stealth - yes I apologise I knew that felt wrong; of course I meant Scunthorpe but thanks for confirming the specific place.

SmellsLike - I just asked him and no he doesn’t. Or rather he’s very sceptical that we’d keep it long.

Gronky · 27/05/2019 00:23

Apologies, I doubt Boris Johnson is either gunning or in line for Secretary of Health.

Blinkingblimey · 27/05/2019 00:23

Well said Miljah!! PLEASE NOTE BREXITEERS - you don’t want nurses from the EU?! Oh yeah, well just get them from other countries from way further afield and fudge the entry/qualification requirements. WHY O WHY O WHY CAN YOU NOT WAKE UP TO THIS?!!!

Miljah · 27/05/2019 00:24

Farage now - a party formed 6 weeks ago...

Tells me just about everything I need to know.

Weak applause, tho.

Gronky · 27/05/2019 00:25

Oh yeah, well just get them from other countries from way further afield and fudge the entry/qualification requirements.

We already do, last year, more NHS staff came from Asia and Africa than from the EU. After British, the second most common nationality for NHS staff was Indian:
