Westminstenders: One Pepperoni Pizza Please. And a Milkshake To Go.

On the Eve of the EU Elections that we never met to happen, and we don't know what the next hour next mind day might bring.

Farage is enjoying the theatre of milkshakes. It means he gets attention and gets to play the victim. And avoid talking about his dodgy friends and even dodgier financing. The Brexit Party are polling so highly its possible he could be PM. And boy does he know it. The temptation is there and its too much to resist.

May has refused to resign so far tonight after a day of asking her to. The 1922 Committee refused to change the rules to help oust her - possibly because they don't want the next PM to be beset with challenges to the leadership at the drop of a hat. Graham Brady is seeing her on Friday... The ERG are not happy bunnies.

May is still apparently planning to plough on with the WAB with a referendum possibly attached. Though this remains to be seen.

Meanwhile Leadsom has just quit the Cabinet. She was one of the Brexit 'Pizza Club'. Rumours are this might be the Cabinet withdrawing support for her. Though Gove has said he doesn't intend to resign (tonight at least).

Rumour is that May's senior staff have abandoned her to let her make the decision to go. And rumours are that when Leadsom rang May to tell her she was leaving cabinet, May didn't tell her senior staff. This comes two weeks after rumours where that Phillip May was at the point of telling her it was time to resign. The rumours of course may be just that, rumours but it's hard to see how or why anyone would tell her to carry on now.

And so tomorrow. Who would vote for this utter shower of shit? Even if you were the most loyal of Tories?

The thing tomorrow is to get the remain vote out. It doesn't matter ultimately what people vote for. Every vote cast for remain keeps the Brexit Party popular vote down. Even if it doesn't win seats. And that is psychologically important.

Tomorrow make sure EVERYONE you know who is anti brexit party votes. More so if they are a Remainer voting for a Remain party, but also if they are solid Labour or the rarest of things, a true blue.

It MATTERS. Narratives will be set.

If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, please TRY ANYWAY. The worst case is you are turned away and have lost 20 mins of your life. But you might also be able to vote and that might change the course of events.

Talk to people tomorrow. Remind them. Make sure it's about preventing a hard right foothold. Apathy will destroy our futures. Being fed up of politicians so refusing to vote is actively shooting yourself in the face.

Who am I voting for?

Still no idea. But I will vote.

I am in NE and voted LibDem.

We were watching Years and Years on the iPlayer last night and Emma Thompson's fantastic portrayal of a competent Nigel Farage was terrifying. I do not want to watch the next episode.

@Red have you decided who to vote for? We’re in the same region and I’m a withering between LD and greens, I like the idea of the tactical voting for green, but worry that if too many people don’t vote LD they won’t get theirs either

Nope.

If the figures are to be believed the LDs should comfortably get one seat. Cable was talking about getting two the other day, but I don't think that's a possibility but who knows.

Me and DP have already voted for remain parties via postal votes. My cat says, is this over yet? I have a headache...

My dad has said he's voting labour. We've had a proxy argument via my poor mum. Labour. He's supposed to be a fervent remainer ffs. Apparently he is a Labour voter come what may. I am so disappointed in him.

I'm NW England. I am taking the blunderbuss approach of voting LibDem.

I was all set on greens last night but I've changed my mind again.

18 people at my polling station so far, all elderly.

Is that normal? I'd assume younger people vote after work (or the school run).

I have gone Green in the NW. Two whole other people in my polling station this morning, but it was before most people start work!

From Tom Peck in The Independent:

Britain. 6pm. Wednesday 22 May 2019. On the night before nationwide European elections that were not meant to happen, Theresa May has turned 10 Downing Street into her own private panic room and Nigel Farage is trapped on a bus in Rochester, surrounded by crowds holding milkshakes.

Or is the other way round? Who even knows? Welcome, everyone, to the sunlit uplands. We have made it to the promised land. We have reached the fully post-metaphor stage of Brexit. It is not “like” anything. Nothing so farcical has occurred before or will again. Not until tomorrow, anyway.

The Conservative Party, and by tragic consequence, the rest of the nation, is now living out a full Ocean’s Eleven remake, a heist movie to somehow bust Theresa May out of office when it simply cannot be done.

Where can you even start? The absolute, absolute state of it. For reasons that can only be known to herself, though probably aren’t, Theresa May is determined to bring forth her Withdrawal Agreement for a fourth humiliating defeat, to make sure she goes out on the lowest of the possible lows.

Even some of the nation’s most senior news broadcasters have admitted that, if a prime minister resigns on an election day, when strict broadcasting rules are in place, they are not completely sure if they will even be allowed to mention it.

Could there be a more fitting end? Well, yes there could actually. Parliament doesn’t sit again now for another 11 days. And who’s in town then? One Donald J Trump. Oh, and by the way, British Steel collapsed this morning.

the chances of Tommy Robinson getting a seat in the NW

I don't know the official chances, but the leaflets with his face on are what has caused my family/friends such determination to vote this time round. Simply not prepared to accept him as representing our area without at least attempting to stop him.

I don’t think anyone expects him to. Also, having just seen the ballot paper, it’s very long and he’s tucked away right at the bottom, which probably won’t help him much Grin

If he can split the racist vote and lose BP a seat so much the better though.

According to that article georgedawes, Lib Dems would be the best bet for the South East, which was who I probably would have opted for in the end, with no "lifesaver" option which reduces the weighing up a little bit.

Still mulling it over.

How many people think the elections today are a General Election ?

That is a serious question ... is it a "non trivial" number ?

Also I can actually see Farages appeal to the 18-25 year olds. Certain when you compare him to the Tories who not only don't give a shit about that demographic, but were quite happy to throw them under a bus when it came to clamping down on benefits.

DS(23) doesn't feel anyone speaks for him and says he won't vote. Which is upsetting, but has a logic to it.

Went to vote on the way to school run as dd wanted to go, it being the last chance for her to see an EP election Sad There were 4 other well dressed young people there (mid 20's) and one man with a buggy so I am hopeful for a good turn out. LD ward so fingers crossed.

So you lot are judging the way people are going to vote based on the way they are dressed?

Funny.

No, but that is all we can see.

I was the only voter at 7.45.
