On the Eve of the EU Elections that we never met to happen, and we don't know what the next hour next mind day might bring.

Farage is enjoying the theatre of milkshakes. It means he gets attention and gets to play the victim. And avoid talking about his dodgy friends and even dodgier financing. The Brexit Party are polling so highly its possible he could be PM. And boy does he know it. The temptation is there and its too much to resist.

May has refused to resign so far tonight after a day of asking her to. The 1922 Committee refused to change the rules to help oust her - possibly because they don't want the next PM to be beset with challenges to the leadership at the drop of a hat. Graham Brady is seeing her on Friday... The ERG are not happy bunnies.

May is still apparently planning to plough on with the WAB with a referendum possibly attached. Though this remains to be seen.

Meanwhile Leadsom has just quit the Cabinet. She was one of the Brexit 'Pizza Club'. Rumours are this might be the Cabinet withdrawing support for her. Though Gove has said he doesn't intend to resign (tonight at least).

Rumour is that May's senior staff have abandoned her to let her make the decision to go. And rumours are that when Leadsom rang May to tell her she was leaving cabinet, May didn't tell her senior staff. This comes two weeks after rumours where that Phillip May was at the point of telling her it was time to resign. The rumours of course may be just that, rumours but it's hard to see how or why anyone would tell her to carry on now.

And so tomorrow. Who would vote for this utter shower of shit? Even if you were the most loyal of Tories?

The thing tomorrow is to get the remain vote out. It doesn't matter ultimately what people vote for. Every vote cast for remain keeps the Brexit Party popular vote down. Even if it doesn't win seats. And that is psychologically important.

Tomorrow make sure EVERYONE you know who is anti brexit party votes. More so if they are a Remainer voting for a Remain party, but also if they are solid Labour or the rarest of things, a true blue.

It MATTERS. Narratives will be set.

If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, please TRY ANYWAY. The worst case is you are turned away and have lost 20 mins of your life. But you might also be able to vote and that might change the course of events.

Talk to people tomorrow. Remind them. Make sure it's about preventing a hard right foothold. Apathy will destroy our futures. Being fed up of politicians so refusing to vote is actively shooting yourself in the face.

Who am I voting for?

Still no idea. But I will vote.

Ian Dunt oversimplifies the d'Hondt voting system in his explanation, so I hope that he really does understand it, when it comes to making his predictions. (I can't read what he actually says, his page has frozen on my computer.)

As he says in the bit of the article I can read, some of the Tory MEP candidates are decent and would try to do the job they are elected for. Let's hope that the Tory voters stick with them, even if they are no hopers, and deny Fartage his seats.

I was out in London yesterday, in a big queue and overheard three conversations going on around me about voting. I have never heard anyone discuss the EU elections before, outside political groups. With one of the conversations I found myself thinking that I bet they voted Tory, and then had to check myself - they might have voted for the Brexcrement.

LoonvanBoon · 23/05/2019 09:45

captainbrickbeard, Yorkshire & humber here. I'm voting Lib Dem - going out shortly - but Green could be a good bet too. A Green seat is less definite, I think, & I'm not confident enough about either LD or Green (neither got a seat last time) to vote Labour, given their lack of a clear position.

I think Farage's lot will definitely get 3 seats, tbh - UKIP did in 2014 and it's hard to imagine how BP are going to get less. UKIP only scraped the 3rd then but I fear will easily have 3 in the bag this time. Labour should certainly have enough for the 1st seat (Richard Corbett, really good) but I'm not convinced they can get the 2nd this time. So I'd rather stick with a remain party, especially given the way results might be spun. % of vote is going to be important, not just seats.

So yes, I'd say vote LD or Green.

Pilcrow · 23/05/2019 09:45

Had a lovely time shredding leaflets yesterday on my return home after a few days away. DH (who's still away; I have a proxy vote for him) had a personally-addressed one from UKIP slagging off the Brexit party so that was first into the machine. Then an incoherent ranty mess from some sort of British patriot outfit, laughably misspelt and senseless. I had one from the Lib Dems.

Normally we'd vote Labour but obvs no chance now. Can't bring myself to vote Green thanks to the Challoners et al. Though scarcely better on the 'non-men' front, Lib Dems it is, as the only Remain party. Clothes peg in place. I'll go and do my duty later.

LonelyTiredandLow · 23/05/2019 09:46

@Firecarrier I was actually talking about turn out.

DGR local residents group BP supporters do seem to think it is a GE. Lots of calls for Farage 4 PM etc.

Thanks for posting the politics.co.uk link george. I like how they’ve given different recommendations based on your voting objective. I’m a bit Confused though at the variation in advice between that site and remainvoter. Politics.co.uk is recommending Libdem for both minimising Brexit seats and maximising full Remain seats in the SE. Remainvoter recommends Changeuk who Politics say don’t have a monkeys. I’m sticking with Libdem.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 23/05/2019 09:59

So the Scottish tories fear a second ref because it would set a precedent...

Surely a second referendum that resulted in Remain winning would take the wind out of the SNPs sails a little? There’s a clear argument for a PV based on the fact that the Brexit we look like getting bears no resemblance to the Brexit people were promised when they voted. If we end up remaining then the status quo, as voted for in the Scottish Indy ref is upheld and that would surely lessen the justification for a second Indy ref. If there’s no PV and we leave then the SNP’s argument for a second Indy ref is much stronger.

Of course a PV with Leaving winning would be a very different matter.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 23/05/2019 10:00

sorry - with Leave winning.

EweSurname · 23/05/2019 10:04

There's also Gina Miller's website

StripeyChina · 23/05/2019 10:09

I cannot vote today (I checked) Really struggling with that.
My lovely dog was PTS last week.
And I have a horrible Grievance telephone interview shortly.

Does anyone know any good 'batting off' phrases which are polite but firm please?

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 23/05/2019 10:12

There's also Gina Miller's website

Which is recommending Lib Dem or Green for the SE.

Politics.co.uk - Libdem
Gina Miller - Libdem or Green
Remain Voter - ChangeUK

So basically, just vote for a Remain party.

From the independent piece posted last page:
{ Theresa May is determined to bring forth her Withdrawal Agreement for a fourth humiliating defeat, to make sure she goes out on the lowest of the possible lows.}

This is the root of the problem.
HoC, Cabinet and even semi decent MSM STILL haven't got it into their heads that the WA HAS to be signed whatever else happens.
What does it take to get {say} 700 English people to understand only 2 sentences written and spoken by Mr Barnier, backed up by the EU27 leaders?

CaptainBrickbeard we're in the same region. I'd suggest voting Green or LibDem.

Morning all. Took a bit of a life break from Brexit recently but am back now - mainly lurking!
Have voted this morning. West Mids. Voted Lib Dem. The voting sites seemed to be split between whether I should vote Lib Dem or Green so I voted with preference and the LDs it was!

colouringinpro · 23/05/2019 10:33

I'll be voting LibDem shortly - South East.

Can't shake feeling of impending doom (Not helped by setback in DS recovery from awful neurological thing). Tough day.

Flowers to anyone struggling today.

I've just done the vote match quiz on yourvotematters.eu and got Keith Taylor (Green) as my closest match.

Caucasianchalkcircles · 23/05/2019 10:35

Leave voting partner has agreed to vote Lib Dem Grin but very politically unengaged work colleague has voted BP ! Said she wasn’t sure who to vote for - toyed with the greens then changed her mind at last minute Confused As I left the polling station at 7:15 this morning I had to laugh as a women in her sixties pushing an even older disgruntled looking lady in a wheelchair was coming in - I reckon huge leaver turnout here (north west) !

lonelyplanetmum · 23/05/2019 10:36

Condolences to Stripey -so sorry

DarlingNikita · 23/05/2019 10:37

Thanks Red. I voted Lib Dem this morning (in London). I think in the end, 'Bollocks to Brexit' swung me.

There were a few people in the polling station, not a queue, but a trickle, at about 8.30am. It's a LONG wait for the results.

lonelyplanetmum · 23/05/2019 10:38

It's probably upthread but we get a public confirmation later today regarding Boris's prosecution.

I did my Remain voting today dutifully following the Remain voter.com tactical vote predictions for London seats.

Lib Dem and Green seats look secure, so if you are Smart Voting, RemainVoter.com recommends vote Change UK to gain a 4th Remain seat in London.

This is one of the toughest seats to call. LDs should get 2 and Green 1. LDs have little chance of getting a 3rd, so CUK come into the equation. If Con continue to slide and with a bit of help from Labour voters, Gavin Esler could be an MEP on Monday.

CaptainBrickbeard · 23/05/2019 10:50

I voted Green.
