Brexit

Can people/Remainers explain what they are tying to achieve with Revoke?

I initially wanted to post on AIBU but I didn’t have the guts and thought it wouod just be moved anyway...

I’m getting tired of Brexit.
Tired of the lies and dreams of the Leave side.
But just as tired of the dreams and wishful thinking of the Remain side.

So I am asking Remainers on here

What do you expect to achieve with Revoke?

How are you planning to deal with the Leave side being left down?
How will you deal with the inevitable instability coming with Revoke? There will a lot of very angry People around.... people who will be feeling left down. People in the north who have always being feeling that the South and London never listens to them and that this is another proof they don’t. And being sure that you have the ‘right’ solution isn’t going to be enough.

I have the same questions for Leavers btw. It’s just that the answer seems to always be ‘that’s the will of the people. Just suck it up’ :(

As we are going deeper and deeper into this brexit mess, it’s clear that there is one way to go back to what the U.K. has. That ship has well and truly sailed.
It’s also clear that No Deal will be a nightmare.

So the only way out I can see is a deal. A deal that will worse for the U.K. than being in the EU. A deal that both sides ‘will just have to suck it up’.
A deal where no one will be truly happy because the other solutions (No Deal or Revoke) just aren’t possible. But the only way out until the U.K. can sort itself out, its political system that has more or less collapsed, its priorities in the middle of a climate crisis, social issues, poverty and economic downturn, its press. (Whilst crossing fingers that whilst it’s doing that, no one will use that opportunity to take power -Trump style for example)

Not feeling very positive about it all. But even less so when I see both sides just sticking to their mantra and refusing to accept that, basically, they have both lost the game.

Her blog is dated December 2015 and the first example she gives is the Ilva steel plant in Italy - a month later the EU Commission issued this press release:

I don't think she claimed to be a prophet, so she could hardly comment on something which happened a month later. I assume she was just reporting on what she saw happening at the time and wondered why it didn't apply in her own town.

One of the most hilarious things about Brexit is watching conservatives who worshipped at Maggie's feet argue in favour of propping up uneconomic industries.

One of the sad things I think is that Tories who couldn't get enough of Theresa May back in 2016 are now baying for her blood. Even to the extent of lining themselves up for the leadership, when as yet, there isn't a vacancy. By the same token as the Labour MEP not being a prophet, we have constantly heard how May is finished, yet she's still in office.

Mistigri · 11/05/2019 17:00

I think generally the last two years have been an eye opener with regards to hypocrisy on the right.

When did you last year a conservative talk about debt? They seem to have gone remarkably quiet since the Trump budget (which added nearly 40% to the US budget deficit in the first seven months of fiscal 2019).

Peregrina · 11/05/2019 18:58

People do need to ask why some industries are unsustainable, and what do other countries do to make theirs sustainable?

Raindropsonroses27 · 11/05/2019 19:02

The leave campaign was completely flawed and full of lies. People bought into an idea that doesn't exist and now we are seeing the reality of leaving and are presented with the facts and difficulties I think we should a second chance at voting.

Of course that in itself will cause huge controversy if remain wins. And if leave wins again we're still in the exact same predicament. So it's lose lose really. Absolutely sick of the ridiculousness of British politics

Kazzyhoward · 11/05/2019 19:40

The leave campaign was completely flawed and full of lies.

So was the remain campaign. We were told there'd be immediate economic collapse the day after a "leave" victory in the referendum along with an emergency budget announcing big tax rises and interest rate increases. Can't remember any of that happening, can you?

Ces6 · 11/05/2019 19:49

So was the remain campaign.
It really wasn't. The leave campaign promised things which were never going to happen.

Peregrina · 11/05/2019 20:09

I certainly remember the value of the £ falling immediately. Cameron then resigned and May gave Osborne the push - otherwise we might well have had an 'Emergency budget'. As it stands, I haven't seen much good news for ordinary people in the post Referendum budgets.

Leave didn't tell us about EU staff leaving in droves, but immigration from non EU countries being up. Something for a section of Leavers to chew over.

Theworldisfullofgs · 11/05/2019 21:04

The thing that people seem to convenientlyforget is that the BoE pumped £££££ into the economy to shore it up after the referendum.

So where are the great DEEDS that the Tory government have done since the referendum to improve the NHS, industry (anywhere), Policing etc. They are not constrained by the EU so why has NOTHING been done?

1tisILeClerc · 12/05/2019 07:42

Following your answer to that (basically very little if anything), How do you see ANY of the political parties making real improvements in the future. The Tories won't, neither will Labour as they are nearly as disorganised. Brexit party have no damn clue about anything and have no manifesto suggesting what they might do, and the others have no great support.
This ought to be worrying people.

Theworldisfullofgs · 12/05/2019 08:39

I agree, it ought to be. And...if the Brexit Party 'win' in the EU elections then....well then as a country we'll probably deserve what we get.

StoorieHoose · 12/05/2019 08:46

And if the Brexit party 'win' EU elections in England and demand a seat a Brexit negotiations you will almost certainly see a rise in support of an independent Scotland

Theworldisfullofgs · 12/05/2019 09:03

Yep and I wouldn't blame them at all.

Kazzyhoward · 12/05/2019 16:52

Err? In case you hadn't notice, we've not yet left the EU!

Peregrina · 12/05/2019 16:56

All the more reason to be getting on with them, because they are nothing to do with the EU. So why not?

1tisILeClerc · 12/05/2019 17:11

Kazzyhoward
As Peregrina has said my point is that NONE of the things that affect the industry, police, NHS and countless other things that need attention have ANYTHING to do with the EU. So what is the excuse?
The fact that the UK government has been spending around double the supposed £350 Million on the bus PREPARING to leave suggests that the money was available all along, but it won't be after the UK leaves.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 12/05/2019 20:20

little

I watched it this morning

I thought he was going to walk out at one point...i very much enjoyed the interview

TatianaLarina · 12/05/2019 21:58

Ffs 3 years later and still Leavers are coming out with this disingenuous slash dishonest crap.

Remain made some claims that were hard to substantiate, such as Brexit leaving each household £4300 worse off. But there was noting that was actively mendacious, or bears any comparison to the volume of Leave lies, described as one law professor as ‘Lies on an industrial scale’. The extent of the lies in the Leave political campaign are unprecedented in the my lifetime.

There was never any prediction of economic collapse the ‘day’ after we Leave, that’s just another lie. The fall of Sterling was predicted, the flight of business - which has really stepped up this year - and we haven’t even left yet.

Osborne’s promised punishment budget only didn’t happen because he was fired.

Littlespaces · 12/05/2019 22:04

This is an interesting fact check following the Marr interview with Farage.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 12/05/2019 22:25

Hes just a lying fucker

Though my personal highlight was when he said he coined the 'no deal is better than a bad deal' phrase and used it all the time

And marr said 'well if you did it wasnt anywhere near a mic'

(Paraphrased slightly)

Theworldisfullofgs · 13/05/2019 06:28

One thing did happen directly after the referendum. Fairer funding for schools was pulled. My hypothesis because it would turn out that the government would have to up its funding to many schools.

ProfessorSlocombe · 15/05/2019 12:16

Now try and keep a database of 65,000,000 up to date, accurate and (most importantly) incapable of causing any harm to anyone.

www.theregister.co.uk/2019/0/15/man_sues_met_1m_fake_conviction_pnc_entry/

A financial IT worker is suing London's Metropolitan Police for £1m after claiming the force recorded an identity fraudster's criminal conviction against his name.

Adekunle "Femi" Adenuga claims police workers wrongly recorded on the Police National Computer (PNC) that he had been convicted of fraud, causing him to lose out on job opportunities during the 2000s.

(contd)

Buttle, Tuttle. ID cards, anyone ?

TalkinPaece · 15/05/2019 13:51

lots of countries do it with much bigger populations than the UK

the database is not the issue, UK habits are
