If there’s a snap general election

Will it mean UKIP will get loads of seats? I don’t understand Brexit. I’m sorry I’m being stupid but I have genuinely given up watching the news as it makes me so stressed. There are loads of leave voters who are convinced that MP’s are doing everything they can to stop Brexit, so it would make sense that they’ll all vote UKIP. Remain seem to be much more of a mixed group so I think it’ll be a lot more difficult to vote tactically.

Please tell me that I’ve got it wrong and that there won’t be a GE and, if there is, UKIP won’t do well out of it.

UKIP have infiltrated the tory party and will be aiming to deselect moderate tory MPs and replace them with their own candidates. I'd say it's that, rather than the threat of someone running explicitly under the UKIP banner winning a seat, which is most worrying. I rather doubt there will be a GE, partly because of the infiltration problem and the damage that could do the party (which, after all, has always been May's priority in all this).

Clavinova · 02/04/2019 22:34

I would vote for a new Pro-Brexit Centrist Party - i.e. leave the EU but middle of the road in other policy areas. I usually vote Conservative, but I was happy enough with Tony Blair's Labour.

NotAChanceOfQuiet · 02/04/2019 22:38

I don't think there would be a GE at the moment. The Tory party are not stupid enough to not realise they have a high risk to lose seats and possibly their majority. The Labour party don't want to have to deal with Brexit. They want to wait for the Tory party to destroy itself.

BrexitBingoGenerator · 02/04/2019 22:39

I would vote for the new party (changeuk I think it is) but only if it presents as Remain. I couldn’t vote for a party that states it’s pro brexit. So that rules out the tories and labour, since apparently by voting labour last time, I was apparently endorsing brexit! Fuckers.

jasjas1973 · 02/04/2019 22:48

There won't be a snap GE, May wants to stay as PM, not to had over No10 to Corbyn.

At the next GE, i hope the Change UK does well (if thats what they end up being called) but i suspect we'll be out by then :(

I hope those remainers who voted tory in 2015 reflect on their decision and never vote Con again.

CoachBombay · 02/04/2019 22:59

I'm also concerned a snap GE could lead to UKIP gaining seats at a worrying rate. I'd probably put my.money on a hung parliament with the Cons doing a deal with UKIP...

Labour would lose about 20seats what the cons loose in seats they would turn to UKIP for.

Lots of pro brexit social media pages with thousands of people saying I'm never voting Labour/Conservative again, my vote is with UKIP.

Out of anger, division, uncertainty and chaos the far right rise. They thrive in it. It's a sad state of affairs.

Bornfreebutinchains · 02/04/2019 23:03

I'm not convinced ukip would win many seats actually now it's been taken over by far right with different agendas.

Farage had simple aim, leave EU.

I think support for ukip would be just as diluted as everyone else's.

People fear corybn.

BigChocFrenzy · 02/04/2019 23:08

No, UKIP won't win more than a couple of seats
Neither will Farage's new Brexit party

Both are far under the FPTP threshhold to get more than a handful of seats

If some of the Tory vote splits off to UKIP & the Brexit Party, FPTP could render the right politically powerless for many years

EngTech · 02/04/2019 23:18

A GE now would cause even more of a shambles as the Government business goes on hold, ticks over until the result is known.

JC would get in with the support of the SNP and the DUP would not be asked to help prop up JC

Or people would think, why bother voting, which could lead to the far left, far right getting a few seats.

Now that would be interesting and send the Political Elite into meltdown

We shall see what comes but a case of do the people trust MP’s to do what they were elected to do?

Mistigri · 03/04/2019 06:51

I think, reluctantly, that there has to be a GE.

Don't think UKIP will get lots of seats - system works against small parties and the pro-Brexit vote will split Tory-UKIP-Farage's Brexit party.

Mind you anti-Brexit vote will also be split, so a GE probably wouldn't be the end of it (it might take several votes to arrive at a stable parliament which can get business done).

nuttynutjob · 03/04/2019 07:05

Careful of who you vote for

If there’s a snap general election

Banks will eventually end up in prison, I suspect. Unfortunately he's going to take us all down with him.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/04/2019 08:58

I dont think UKIP will get many if any seats for the reasons above

I live in a leave area and in 2017 over 35k people voted tory, 1.5k voted ukip

Tensixtysix · 03/04/2019 09:00

I thought UKIP didn't exist anymore?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/04/2019 09:00

14.5k for labour, 3k ish for libdem

Just in the interests of fairness

72% turnout

Why do I remember this shit???

BorisBogtrotter · 03/04/2019 09:14

I don't think UKIP would win a significant part of the vote.

When people bang on about the amount of votes they won in 2015 their and shout about how it was more than the SNP, they forget that they stood in 612 seats, and averaged about 6,000 votes per seat. Where as the SNP only stood in 59 seats and won 24651 votes per seat.

GCAcademic · 03/04/2019 09:26

The problem is that if your Tory MP is not a hard Brexiter, they will be deselected by the UKIP infiltrators in the local branch, and one of their own installed as the candidate in his or her place.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 03/04/2019 09:29

Yes i agree with that GCA

The UKIP muppet...and he isnt a muppet becuaes he is UKIP he is a muppet cos he is a twat....moved to the conservative party

So it wouldn't surprise me at all if he stands and in effect brings his UKIP views into the local conservative party

Wont stop them getting it...its true blue (red and white) here

MockerstheFeManist · 03/04/2019 11:00

Under Batten's lurch to the far right, UKIP have gained Yaxley-Lennon and lost all their recognised names. They are now BNP2.

RocketSurgery · 03/04/2019 13:39

I don’t think people care that there’s been a far right lurch within UKIP. I live in a fishing town where there are posters calling for MP’s to be strung up for sabotaging Brexit. My friend had her window smashed in because she’d hung an EU flag in it. I know it’s not like this everywhere in the UK but I find it chilling.
