Fantasy Cabinet

In these uncertain times I have been keeping myself amused by decided which MP’s I would have in a Fantasy Cabinet. Reshuffles happen fairly frequently but at the moment it looks like this.

Ken Clarke
Yvette Cooper
Dominic Grieve
Keir Starmer
Joanne Cherry
Kirsty Blackman
Anna Soubry
Tom Watson
Hilary Benn
Jess Phillips
Nick Boles
Caroline Lucas
Sylvia Hermon

That’s only 13. We need 22/23 I think. Who would you like to see.

Ian Blackford
John Bercow
Special appointments - Nicola Sturgeon
Gina Miller

ConcealDontFeeI · 01/04/2019 22:58

You're mental if you don't vote in Peter Kyle. Best MP ever (and my constituency MP). Even did a funny little quip re the naked protesters today. Add him to your list OP!

Belindabelle · 01/04/2019 22:59

If we are doing special appointments I am having Mark Carney.

If it's totally fantasy then can I add David Milliband as PM please?

I heard him on R4 some time ago and didn't recognise his voice at first. Who the hell is this sensible, eloquent person talking with just the right amount of passion and sense?

It was him. I still close my eyes and imagine it was him who became the leader of the Labour Party that time not his brother.

Do they have to be alive? I want to resurrect Mo Mowlam as the only politician in living memory who could actually navigate a way through this mess.

Peregrina · 01/04/2019 23:34

Mhairi Black would be a good younger addition IMO.
Sarah Wollaston

Belindabelle · 01/04/2019 23:45

I think they should be alive really but as these are such trying times I will allow one deceased MP each. Mo Moslem is a great call. I will have John Smith.

Not sure about David Milliband. I can’t forgive him for buggering off to New York.

That looks great. Imagine a cabinet with the best MPs in it rather than one carefully balanced to always include enough Brexiteers. Who would ever choose Chris Grayling for any other reason!

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 02/04/2019 01:34

I'd definitely add Alison McGovern, Dame Margaret Beckett and Dr Sarah Wollaston. Maybes: Justine Greening and because there should be a LD probably Jo Swinson.
The minority of front bench contenders sums up this period in parliamentary history- like you I can only really choose Tom Watson and Sir Keir Starmer.

I'd bring back Sir John Major as my special appointment (I guess at least he's alive!!)

lonelyplanetmum · 02/04/2019 06:15

There was a previous fantasy cabinet thread ( link below) but things do evolve..

I'll stick with
•Hilary Benn / Yvette Cooper/ David Lammy/ Caroline Lucas as PM /Chancellor of Exchequer /Deputy PM maybe
•Attorney General Dominic Grieve
•Sarah Wollaston Home Sec/ Health
• Ian Blackford alternative Exchequer, Trade or Home or Foreign Sec
• Ken Clarke
• Margaret Beckett
• Kier Starmer
•Angela Eagle

Also (radically) as many of our domestic politicians have shown sheer crass incompetence I would like some international mentoring type appointments. Of course they would probably refuse but this is a fantasy ...How about Barack Obama in a sort of non executive director role? A bit like a senior consultant, special advisor to the PM (better than say Nick Timothy)?

In a similar vein how about a consultancy role for Donald Tusk too. He could also help with a non exec role starting with the Treasury. His experience when younger in growing the Polish economy by almost 20% in seven years was a record performance. This would be useful experience and lord knows we are going to need it.

Guy Verhofstadt has shown himself to be more knowledgable about UK politics than many domestic politicians perhaps he could help with some consultancy role for a NI secretary.

lonelyplanetmum · 02/04/2019 06:21

Oh yes perhaps I'll reshuffle to include Bercow, Ruth Davidson and Nicola Sturgeon.

Camomila · 02/04/2019 06:36

Hello neighbour! (ConcealDontFeel)

I'll nominate Lloyd Russel-Moyle for a full Brighton & Hove Hat trick

lonelyplanetmum · 02/04/2019 06:39

Oh and Sam Gyimah- Education maybe.

Yaralie · 02/04/2019 11:28

Jo Swinson
Vince Cable
Tom Brake
Margaret Becket
Ben Bradshaw

MattFreisWeatherReport · 02/04/2019 20:40

We play this a lot too. Don't forget Chris Bryant and Wes Streeting. And Deidre Brock just for her stupendously angry takedown of both the Tories and Labour in the MV3 debate last week.

Belindabelle · 02/04/2019 21:48

Well I see Theresa May has decided to play her own game of Fantasy Cabinet by reaching out to JC. Not sure what position she has in mind, scapegoat, whipping boy. He is not in my fantasy cabinet that’s for sure.

Anyone who is pushing for remain and anyone who is gender critical. Not a lot of choice then.

onalongsabbatical · 03/04/2019 22:45

New addition, I forgot - Rupa Huq.

Backwoodsgirl · 04/04/2019 03:12

The bear from the Revenant I think would be a great contender
