A thread for sharing details of our stashes: what we have, what we need, good hiding places and all sorts of hints and tips to help prepare for shortages in the event of a no deal brexit.

we will just have to see how well it is all going. or not. there are still so many variables.

Bluelonerose · 11/04/2019 08:15

Well I'm going to get all the goodies out of stock pile and use them for while the kids are off school for Easter.
Hopefully should keep my shopping bill down then I can just grab extra treats on a weekly shop.

All this bloody faffing around about leaving though. I was looking forward to having some space back

Easilyflattered · 11/04/2019 08:43

Another six months of this!!! Actually leaving is starting to feel like the boy who cried wolf.

I may have to eat the stockpile and have a news blackout to preserve my sanity and to use the spare room again.

BercowsSilkTie · 11/04/2019 10:24

Not much out of the stuff for mum that needs using before the end of October. The tins have got 2020-2023 on them depending on what they are.
So today I'm giving her:

2 litres milk
Crackers
Digestive slices
Caramel digestive slices
Self raising flour
Crumble topping
Yorkies x 4
Golden breadcrumbs
Fruit and nut chocolate x 5
Love Cocoa Sea salt dark chocolate

An odd collection but she's not room to store everything I've got her until next year.

Tonsilss · 11/04/2019 10:35

The thing is that we could be leaving the EU in May (what TM would like), or at any time between end May and end October. Because we leave when the WA is passed. Which it may well be at this stage. So there is no certainty about it at all.
I'm going to keep all the tins and other long lasting stuff. I'm going to use the other stuff, but try to keep a rough list of what we've eaten, so that I can then replace it without having to go through the whole thought process again.
I'm going to use this summer to learn how to grow veg in the garden, and am on the waiting list for an allotment.
I would really like to have a definite leave date. Awful for business and everyone else not knowing when, up to end of October, Brexit will happen.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 11/04/2019 10:39

If we leave before October we leave under the WA so have the transition period. So personally I think it's safe to eat the stockpile.

(We're having the EP elections, we won't crash out on 1 June)

ourkidmolly · 11/04/2019 11:06

Why don't you all donate your stockpiles to Food Banks and forget about the whole crazy endeavour? Then something good can come out of this madness. Clearly it's never going to come to requiring one. Despite people on here desperately wanting a return to wartime conditions, I think it's time to wake up and smell the coffee. There's plenty of it in your stockpiles. Wink

bellinisurge · 11/04/2019 11:12

Personal choice @ourkidmolly , remember that one.
If people feel ready to donate what extra they have to food banks then they will. If they don't, they won't.

ourkidmolly · 11/04/2019 11:15

Er yes obviously. I wasn't about to come around to mumsnetters' houses and raid them.

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/04/2019 11:23

I have needed the food from the stockpile a couple of times already, kids have been ill and I have not been able to shop, I have been ill and not been able to shop etc. Also most of it is a money saving exercise as things have been bought when on offer and we will use them anyway. It is working like our own personal foodbank.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/04/2019 11:36

My food stockpile didn't come out of spare cash, all we did was to buy it earlier than usual.

BroomstickOfLove · 11/04/2019 11:39

I'm keeping a rolling stockpile from now on, I think. It's already come in useful when life has got in the way of shopping/food prep, and I feel more secure having a food buffer.

BercowsSilkTie · 11/04/2019 11:55

No coffee in my stockpile.

Cloudtree · 11/04/2019 12:02

I don't have much that's use by end of June. UHT milk mainly which will be used in porridge and rice puddings etc plus some of the bread mixes which I will use anyway. I also have a few butternut squash which I will use and replace and I'll do the same with the sweet potatoes and normal potatoes.

Cheese and butter freeze for months and months. It will be fine in June/October.

Cloudtree · 11/04/2019 12:03

I don't think we're quite here yet..(but I am that russian girl!!)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/04/2019 13:22

Think I'll keep my frozen butter and cheese then.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 11/04/2019 13:22

I'll see what my local food bank is asking for. They seem to be quite well provided for where we are - a few weeks ago they were saying they didn't need food and were looking more for things like loo roll and sanitary protection.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 11/04/2019 13:23

(Just ate the first tin of fruit out of my stockpile this lunchtime)

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/04/2019 16:05

There was talk on the radio about businesses still having to be prepared due to the extension being flexible and the UK being able to leave anytime between now and October.

BercowsSilkTie · 11/04/2019 16:22

There's actually very little that needs using up in the next 6 months. Some sweets, chocolate, and the UHT milk but most other things are the end of December and then the rest is well into next year or 2021/22. So I'm quite pleased that most of my stash can still be stashed as it were. Will use my frozen tofu and peppers and other bits over the next months now.

bellinisurge · 11/04/2019 16:23

That's bloody ridiculous. So unhelpful for SMEs. Or even big ones with loads of employees.

NoWordForFluffy · 11/04/2019 16:27

But if we leave before Oct it'll be with a deal and the transition period, so they don't have to keep prepped for no deal.

I need to check my stash out. I've been busy today. I'm glad it's all under the bed and not in clear sight though as I had two people from work bring me my IT equipment so that I can work from home from Monday on my return to work post-surgery!

Dontlickthetrolley · 11/04/2019 16:30

I've eaten salmon and pesto pasta from my stash today Smile

bellinisurge · 11/04/2019 16:31

My comment was to @BlackeyedGruesome

BlackeyedGruesome · 12/04/2019 13:39

It was strange going round the supermarket this morning. Getting twitchy thinking one should be prepping the stockpile, the realising that it can be relaxed for a bit, at least until October when I think the next big possibility of no deal is.

I am going to think a bit more about general prepping for other scenarios.
