A thread for sharing details of our stashes: what we have, what we need, good hiding places and all sorts of hints and tips to help prepare for shortages in the event of a no deal brexit.

had a mad moment in morrisons and bought more cereal. there are already a lot under the stairs. oops. there are also 12.5kg of unwashed potatoes under the stairs as well now, which is what I went in for. Topped up the san pro as we have used quite a bit since I last did a shop, oh and black beans were on offer so bought some of those as well, which is what I would normally do.

just about done now. shopping for the easter holidays tomorrow so another stupidly big shop, though not as big as normal as lots of things are in stock already.

Cloudtree · 10/04/2019 18:19

Ocado keep sending me vouchers but I think I'm at capacity

NoWordForFluffy · 10/04/2019 19:19

I'd still struggle to resist, @Cloudtree! Grin

Cloudtree · 10/04/2019 19:22

I know but they sent me a 35% off one last week which I used despite not really needing to and then a £20 off one today. Its so tempting but I don't really need to shop at all. I'm even maxed out on alcohol!

NoWordForFluffy · 10/04/2019 19:25

I've not had a decent discount coupon from anywhere in ages.

Cloudtree · 10/04/2019 19:26

Mine came through when I booked a slot, put lots of stuff in my basket and then abandoned it..

NoWordForFluffy · 10/04/2019 21:11

🤔🤔🤔

I shall try that one!

I've placed a Sainsbury's one for tomorrow with just our normal weekly shop. After being away until tonight, a trip to the supermarket with the kids (I can't go alone with one arm, but I pay so do need to go, but that means it'd be a family outing!) is beyond the pale.

I'll try an abandoned Ocado order for next week!

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/04/2019 22:50

I wish the 27 would be quick. (Nervous)

If it is no deal, will there be panic buying tomorrow?

NoWordForFluffy · 10/04/2019 23:35

I doubt there'd be panic buying until the restocking system started to fail and the shelves start to empty.

Or that's my best guess!

BlackeyedGruesome · 10/04/2019 23:54

it has been normal levels of busyness on all the other occasions that we have been on the brink of brexit. all depends on who is paying attention.

those people who are concerned will have stocked up already, those who are not just carryingo n as normal and like you say may only notice when shelves start emptying or their favourite product is out of stock for ages.

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/04/2019 00:39

Postpones for 6 months

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/04/2019 04:26

How long do butter and cheese freeze for?

Triglesoffy · 11/04/2019 04:29

I don’t know but I’ve had butter in the freezer since the end of January. Time to use it up, methinks, and fill the gaps with bacon.

BercowsSilkTie · 11/04/2019 07:02

Time to evaluate the stockpile and start using things up. Children will be happy that the sweets and chocolate are fair game now. They will still be rationed though.
My mum is going to wonder where to put all her stuff that she doesn't know I've got her 😂

TheElementsSong · 11/04/2019 07:10

Time to evaluate the stockpile and start using things up.

Yup, I'll have to check all the use-by dates (again) and sort out what should be eaten first. The thing that has the shortest shelf-life, I think, is the UHT milk - and I only have a couple of litres of it.

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/04/2019 07:11

Stockpile evaluation time. Eating stuff in date order. And making sure we have plenty of stuff for the end of June . We have a few treats that we would not normally have.

BercowsSilkTie · 11/04/2019 07:15

Why June @BlackeyedGruesome? Have I missed something?

bellinisurge · 11/04/2019 07:27

Start planting (weather permitting) any of your fave veg. For complicated health reasons, I have to forgo my raised bed this year and focus on containers for my veg. I did loads of container experiments last year so all good.

BercowsSilkTie · 11/04/2019 07:43

Am I right in thinking that Halloween is our new cliff edge and we could still leave without a deal?

I've decided that this will be the spring, summer and part autumn that will be full of fresh fruit and veg. I've got lots of shelf stable things so all I need to do is buy fresh stuff now. I'm hoping that the money I'll save will allow us a little trip away this summer.

I still feel things are very uncertain though 😔

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/04/2019 07:43

I'm going to use my short dated stuff to help mitigate what has been an expensive few months, but not my tins and dried food, then in August I'll start building things back up. I guess we need to be slightly wary in case the Tory party implodes and we end up with a hard right leaver as a pm, but it seems, looking at the votes they've had, that the majority aren't as kamikaze.

bellinisurge · 11/04/2019 07:44

Yep. Cliff edge deferred is how I read it.

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/04/2019 07:50

listening to radio and it seemed that there is a check in june that all is going well, or we are out if we do not hold elections. I am going to be stocking up at the end of may (half term) end of june (EU?) and of july (summer holidays) I would be stocking up for half term in october anyway.

we are going to be planting stuff in the church garden to start experimenting on being more sustainable/getting a group together to garden.

NoWordForFluffy · 11/04/2019 07:51

I might leave it a few weeks to see which direction Parliament goes in and then assess what to do with the stash.

At least Halloween is after many things are harvested / are ready to be harvested, so if you've grown your own you'll have fresh stuff available to you.

I'm going to get as much on my allotment as possible, I think!

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/04/2019 07:59

this will be a good year to test the growing in pots and sort out the church garden so that it can grow stuff.

Jackshouse · 11/04/2019 08:01

Damn. I have a baby due in August so will have to start again in September with stockpiling.

I’m wondering if it’s worth the effort.
