A thread for sharing details of our stashes: what we have, what we need, good hiding places and all sorts of hints and tips to help prepare for shortages in the event of a no deal brexit.

If it's no deal and desperate times, she may reconsider her stance!

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 07/04/2019 14:57

I am still adding to my stockpile as I started it late. We have things like powdered mash and uht milk on the top which we can use and then replace in the event of a long extension.

Did a stock count today and we have: 3 tins of potatoes, two packs of powdered mash, two bags of pasta, four tins of tomatoes, eight tins of vegetables, six tins of fruit, six tins of soup, two cartons of uht milk, four cartons of juice, a pack of powdered milk, a pack of rice, two packs of (different) lentils, four tins of pulse-type curries, two fray bentos. Frozen onions, garlic and ginger in the freezer.

That's quite good I think and should do us two weeks but we need more fruit.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 16:47

dh is in trouble for opening up the big pack of costco loo roll for no apparent reason today when we have another open pack. How am I supposed to keep track if he's messing with the stash?

Cloudtree · 07/04/2019 17:03

I failed prepping 101 today and showed my BF the stash. I'm not sure what came over me.

To be fair though it shocked her into action. She came out of the loft got a pad and pen and went back up and wrote a list and said she's dedicating the rest of the day to placing a few large orders to arrive this week. It will be more expensive for her doing it this way rather than having shopped the offers over a period of a few months but at least they'll have a good supply.

bellinisurge · 07/04/2019 19:56

Sounds like you made a good call @Cloudtree

NoWordForFluffy · 07/04/2019 20:03

How did you lure her into the loft, Cloudtree? I assume you've stairs, not a ladder?

BlackeyedGruesome · 07/04/2019 20:10

That was close. Hope she gets the orders in in time.

What is it with some people ( often of the male sex) that open random packs as they could not find the already open one? right under their nose

I have picked up some packs of individual cous cous for DD as they have put egg in the instant noodles she likes. I hope she likes at least one sort. If not I have a big pack of cous cous, that I can make up for her.

Ds went veggie for a year. He is now rampant carnivore eating far too much processed meat for my liking.

Kittywampus · 07/04/2019 20:14

These short extensions are creating havoc with my stockpiling plans. Dp thinks it isn't really necessary to stockpile, especially now that the original brexit date has been and gone. I don't want a no deal brexit but if it is going to happen could they please do it now before dp eats my entire stash?

BlackeyedGruesome · 07/04/2019 20:15

I only went to Aldi for bread FFS and came home with a lot more.

Been under the weather with a cough so yet to stash it properly. Getting a bit tense about being able to get medicine for DD, getting healthy food, and enough that she does not need meds to keep her functioning.

BlackeyedGruesome · 07/04/2019 20:17

Not another male disrupting the stashing. Thank goodness ex has his own house.

Cloudtree · 08/04/2019 07:07

No she climbed the ladder Blush. Ive been nagging her for months and she'd managed a tray of tomatoes and a tray of beans and some loo roll (which they had then used up). She knew I had stuff because of the nagging and so I thought "sod it" and took her up. The DSs have sorted it out and it looks like a little shop up there so she was really shocked. I did make her promise first that she wouldn't try to have me committed Grin

Ive not bought much over the past few weeks due to all of the uncertainty and the fact that I simply cannot get another thing in the freezers. Ive just been replacing what we use. Focus is shifting to the garden produce. Ive doubled the number of tomato plants and courgettes I generally plant since both are pretty much guaranteed to grow and I'd rather have way too much and be able to give it away/store it than not have enough.

This week I'll pick up some more wraps, part baked bread, milk, more cheese, citrus fruit and a load of apples just in case..

NoWordForFluffy · 08/04/2019 07:59

I'm doing apples and peppers late on Friday night if we definitely no deal. I'd imagine most people wouldn't actually panic until the JiT system shows signs of failing (so after I've been and cleared the shelves!). GrinBlush

I always have too many tomato plants. I've loads of peppers and chillies this year too. And I'm growing lemongrass for the first time too. That's quite slow burn, it seems!

BlackeyedGruesome · 08/04/2019 07:59

can't get much more cheese in the fridge. may try the freezer. I have picked up the part baked bread for the easter holidays, which we would get anyway.

I have crackers, naan, wraps, part baked bread, yeast sachets, bread flour, both wholemeal and white, pizza bases and seed potatoes. there is not enough to feed us completely for long but enough to supplement whatever we can get.

BlackeyedGruesome · 08/04/2019 08:01

this is the week I do the pre school holiday shop so would be busy anyway, nover mind brexit. this week though the pre holiday shop will be considerably smaller as the plac eis heaving with goods anyway.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/04/2019 08:06

I'm getting 2kg more cheese this week. We have 750g in the freezer too.

I've loads of flour and yeast, but can't make bread until I have my right arm back in action!

BercowsSilkTie · 08/04/2019 08:06

I'm not sure I have any money to add to the stock now. Fingers crossed Wednesday brings good news of a long extension or revoke. I can but dream!

BlackeyedGruesome · 08/04/2019 08:07

good job it jkeeps then.

TheElementsSong · 08/04/2019 08:18

We sowed our crop seeds in our raised beds this weekend (things that are OK to sow directly, like spring onions and beetroot). Each spring FiL starts tomato and courgette plants for us in his greenhouse, so all we'll have to do is collect the seedlings from him in a few weeks when the threat of frost is past.

I haven't forward purchased any more supplies since I "finished" stockpiling in January, just rotating it now to ensure it's all in date. Our spare room looks like a small shop Grin If it looks like bad news on Wednesday, I'll go to the shops on Thursday to top up my fresh produce with things that will last a while; I was thinking apples, oranges, cabbage, peppers and eggs.

MockerstheFeManist · 08/04/2019 10:03

Do you suppose Mr Kipling is doing this deliberately?
