This morning Jeremy Hunt declared that, 'With vision on both sides we can find a way through that has the support of Parliament and also works for the EU'

Of course this is 18th February 2019 and the UK has yet to demostrate they understand the problem, much less have the vision to solve it. And we leave the EU next month.

It needs to be stressed at this point: DON'T FORGET TO FOCUS ON WHAT REALLY MATTERS

Everything else is a tactic to make you close your eyes and miss what is really going on. Everything. Brexit looks increasingly like a hypnotist making their subject do ever increasing acts of ridiculousness on stage. Except I do not know if the public or the politicians are that poor sod. It is the magician who uses tricks of slight of hand to make you look the wrong way, whilst they makes all the big moves out of your vision.

There are so many stories that are coming out to try and make you miss what the government are failing to do. Stay focused. We can't ignore all these stories, but understand whether they are really important to the end game too.

A labour split, a march on the 23rd March, talk of a PV, the Brady amendment, the Malthouse Compromise, Cooper-Boles halting no deal?

No we need more than that.

The time for fantasies are gone. Its time to face reality and be pragmatic. The only thing that matters is the approaching cliff. Which we will go over not on the 29th March but in the next couple of weeks. We might not realise the ground disappearing beneath our feet at first. Our momentum as we go forward will carry for a short while before gravity kicks in.

But we can not defy the laws of physics and suddenly be able to fly because we develop magic superhuman powers of vision.

And no one will come to save us either.

Our national humilation will be total, if we don't acknowledge what is coming and stop.

Sadly my Russian doesn't extend more than da, nyet and my friends pet/abbreviated names for her Russian grandparents - baba and dede Sad

prettybird · 18/02/2019 15:46

Sos I can understand people's frustration with those that post inconsistent views Confused I haven't noticed any posting out of context: just looking at the totality of what has been posted over time.

TatianaLarina · 18/02/2019 15:47

I just hate it when people quote me out of context

I’m not wildly keen on people making comments which, when a whole bunch of posters disagree with, claim they were taken out of context...

If that’s the case, define what you meant rather than posting emoticons.

SparklySneakers · 18/02/2019 15:48

PMK. Thanks Red.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2019 15:51

I shouldn't have said that. Sorry, I just want people to be nice.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2019 15:53

/hands out Brew and hot chocolate with squirt cream to everyone and hopes that we can all take a deep breath.

OlennasWimple · 18/02/2019 15:57

Please can we stop with the squabbling Russian typing now? We fill these threads up fast enough without wasting posts on irrelevant stuff

Grinchly · 18/02/2019 16:03

Apologies also. I should not have joined in. Brew

jasjas1973 · 18/02/2019 16:05

That's why we must be united – not for ourselves but to deliver a Labour Government

A Lab Gov outside of the EU is like a chocolate fucking fireguard

I've take some flak here for supporting JC but more recently all i see is Labour supporting Brexit, instead of Remain.

Leaving the EU damages the UK and will reduce tax take, hurting the very people who need it the most and austerity and tax cuts for business is probably all the UK can do to stop economic collapse.

What Lab should be doing is backing Remain, explain why and what they will do to support communities left behind.

I will never support them again.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 16:05

Please can we stop with the squabbling Russian typing now?

Personally its getting a bit tired of seeing the same trope used every time Corbyn comes up, on a thread that requires posters have reasoned arguments, say something like 'we get our independence from the EU' and the poster needs to have a reasoned argument for saying it but the whole Comrade Corbyn trope is reductive af but left to stand, just makes no sense to me

DGRossetti · 18/02/2019 16:05

When the LeaveBots were busy, I was tempted to suggest switching to French to exclude them ...

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 16:07

I agree jas and as you know I'm someone who gets plenty of flak, I think if the media would help frame the narrative it would be a winner but it will be back to the Corbyn's coming for your Brexit style narrative

DGRossetti · 18/02/2019 16:07

Leaving the EU damages the UK and will reduce tax take, hurting the very people who need it the most and austerity and tax cuts for business is probably all the UK can do to stop economic collapse.

Sadly, the damage already done is a generations worth to undo. And that's if we started now.

I suspect I will die with the UK out of the EU,

Grinchly · 18/02/2019 16:12

That's a good thought, DGR Wink
Suspect you're right re the damage already done, btw.

prettybird · 18/02/2019 16:15

Jasjas - I admire you for being open and admitting that you'd stood up (iirc, for a long time) for Corbyn but eventually became disillusioned at his lack of effective action Flowers I often think of how upsetting and disappointing that must have been for you. Sad Your experience must be shared by many Labour supporters around the country.

A bit like the 7 ex Labout MPs Wink

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2019 16:17

Poster We quote past statements Corbyn made, link videos of him saying it

  • that's reasoned arguments, that's evidence that he has always been a Brexiter.

and those of us old enough to remember when he first became an MP have years of personal memories about him,
hearing his speeches in person.

Many instances of anti-semitism and sexism, with him minimising and ignoring the victims of it when they try to complain - and his supports then ganging up on the complainers.

Labour should be looking at why 7 MPs were willing to probably commit political suicide, rather than stay in the Labour party

Also wh Labour aren't miles ahead of the most incompetent, shambolic government in living memory

TatianaLarina · 18/02/2019 16:17

The Russian wasn’t a reference Corbyn but to the idea the party should come first, even in the face of policies you disagree including anti-semitism. I didn’t mention Corbyn.

I’m surprised you and Sost are still on about it 2 pages later.

TalkinPeece · 18/02/2019 16:18

JasJas
I am sad that you have had to join those of us with no party to follow
but glad that you have been so clear in how and why you got here

prettybird · 18/02/2019 16:18

I suspect I will die with the UK out of the EU DGR

Change that to I suspect I will die with FUKD out of the EU and I will agree with you Wink.

I'm still hoping to see an independent Scotland Grin; my Dad wants to see it before he dies and he's 82 now Shock - although his aunt in Denmark lived until she was 102 Wink (his mum died at 85 but she'd had a harder life in SA). So I have a maximum of 20 years Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2019 16:19

"That's why we must be united – not for ourselves but to deliver a Labour Government" Hmm

I'm a centrist, like several others here
I've no particular interest in delivering a Labour govt
especially one that helped deliver Brexit when in Opposition.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/02/2019 16:20

Corbyn but to the idea the party should come first, even in the face of policies you disagree including anti-semitism.

I believe the members and MP's say they have been targeted with antisemitic hate, should Corbyn have tackled it faster and harder absolutely, is he himself antisemitic I've not seen ant evidence of that, if theres evidence of it please post the links

Do I believe the right wing side of the media care when they run antisemitic articles on people like George Soros nope fraid I dont just seems a bit weaponised at that point and even Facebook have come under fire for this

TatianaLarina · 18/02/2019 16:21

Many instances of anti-semitism and sexism, with him minimising and ignoring the victims of it when they try to complain - and his supports then ganging up on the complainers.

Absolutely.

This breakaway, ineffectual though it may be, may be the beginning of the end for Corbyn.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2019 16:22

I never thought there would be an Independent Scotland - and certainly never wanted one.

However, if Scotland is voted and forced out of the UK, I couldn't blame Scottish voters for choosing not to be dragged down with FUKD.

It would be difficult for an independent Scottish govt to make a worse mess than this Sad

BigChocFrenzy · 18/02/2019 16:28

Corbyn is so pro-Palestinian that he ignores everything its supporters do, ignores all the crimes

it's not that he himself hates Jews as such

imo, he regards victims of anti-semitism as acceptable collateral damage
he regards those who disagree with him as not worth his trouble to protect from harm
His most fervent supporters regard them as enemies to be destroyed politically.

That was bad enough when he was just a back-bench MP
It's unacceptable for the party leader

TatianaLarina · 18/02/2019 16:28

I believe the members and MP's say they have been targeted with antisemitic hate, should Corbyn have tackled it faster and harder absolutely, is he himself antisemitic I've not seen ant evidence of that, if theres evidence of it please post the links

Seriously?

This pic ring any bells?
