Westminstenders: Waiting for Sanity

We could be waiting a long time, but that's what we have to wait for as that's what the EU is waiting for.

The EU has requested we expand on our plans for 'alternative arrangements' with regard to the backstop.

We need to do so before the next HoC vote on 14th Feb. The EU see no point in shifting their position before than. And the UK will struggle to provide the info the EU want before then. So there is now some doubt as to whether the vote will go ahead as planned.

About a third of the Cabinet now believe that Brexit will have to be delayed due to legislation not being ready for exit date. However we don't have power over this and we might still exit without it.

There is no Brexit related business next week in the HoC to prevent pesky amendments. The recess has been cancelled but MPs have been told its OK to go on their ski holidays so it's just a PR stunt.

Meanwhile No Deal is in full effect as businesses trigger their exit strategy in the absence of certainty. No Deal is reality for many even if we do have a last minute deal...

We are all about to get poorer. As that's what we voted for.

Pesty - FWR is feminism and womens' rights. They have lots of practice over there at being derailed, and hence have become pretty good at not taking the bait Smile

Ta1kinPeace · 02/02/2019 21:38

Elenade
I think I rather started it last night by mentioning the lack of US systems
and the dire potential of a "trade deal" with US agriculture
but the core point is that the EU had looked after Brits far better than the ERG would like
so the change only heads one way

BigChocFrenzy · 02/02/2019 21:42

red If May put the country first ...

She'd try to convince Corbyn to support the WA, say be asking to add permanent CU to the PD
She could afford to drop 100 Tory votes, if she gains 250 Labour ones

and both the WA and WAIB would pass quite easily

That only works if Corbyn put the country first too ...

So, both of them ....
OK, we're sooooo deep in the shit

Destiel In 1999, the European Union (EU) implemented an antibiotic resistance monitoring program and a plan to phase out antibiotic use for the purposes of growth promotion by 2006. The European Union banned the use of antibiotics as growth agents starting on 1 January 2006 with Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003

Unlike our American friends. It is a bit tricky to get antibiotics without a sick animal.

WA is the withdrawal agreement but what is WAIB?

Cedilla , Born I worked the North Sea in the 80s/90s, I have been less than impressed by MN feminists. Sad

Jo Maugham QC Retweeted Mike Smithson@MSmithsonPB

LAB/Corbyn appear to be paying the price for Brexit ambiguity.

Tonight's Opinium poll with a CON 7% lead finds that for the first time in since GE2017 less than half of referendum remain voters (49%) would opt for LAB.

Westminster voting intention:

CON: 41% (+4)
LAB: 34% (-6)
LDEM: 8% (+1)

@PestymcPestFace that was my point (probably not that clear -apologies)- uk not allowed because of EU law, but allowed in MANY countries USA, INdia, China to name a few(all countries we will be looking for trade deals with)
I personally see antibiotic resistance as a global issue - it's great that it doesn't happen at home, but those that travel are probably often consuming meat from animals treated with antibiotic's - but that is a bit of a de-rail...... sorry!!!

jasjas1973 · 02/02/2019 21:58

She'd try to convince Corbyn to support the WA, say be asking to add permanent CU to the PD

Putting the country first would mean she would revoke and campaign for such, explain why and what she will do to help lft behind communities, she safe for another 12months and with JC approval could avoid a no confidence..... but as you say, won't happen :(

A CU added to the PD is meaningless, its non binding and up for discussion with a new commission and Govt.

PestymcPestFace · 02/02/2019 21:58

whosafraid how on earth is tartrazine cheaper than turmeric?

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/02/2019 21:58

WAIB is Withdrawal Agreement Implementation Bill. The second part, the next hoop that needs to be jumped through if the WA passes.

borntobequiet · 02/02/2019 21:58

Pesty, I part owned and worked a beam trawler (south coast) in the 70s...have an off/on relationship with feminism in its various incarnations/waves/whatever, but there are some important issues for women currently being talked about on the FWR board. They are good at seeing off “strangers” there.

BigChocFrenzy · 02/02/2019 21:59

With those kind of polls, May could gamble Corbyn won't win a post-No Deal GE

imo, She'd be much more likely to deal with him if Labour were ahead - as they would be under any normal Labour leader

BigChocFrenzy · 02/02/2019 22:05

The PD could only ever be non-binding, because A50 only specifies a "framework" for future trade.

At least changing the PD would increase the likelihood of a permanent CU, which Labour apparently want
and might persuade him to support the WA

Otherwise what hope is there of avoiding No Deal ?

I'd love to think that after May comes back empty-handed in 2 weeks that her Cabinet or the HoC would force her to Revoke.
However, I see no signs whatsoever that Tory MPs would step up like that .....
and even if they would, Corbyn would whip Labour MPs to vote against

imo, The chance of her blinking on 29 March and writing a Revoke letter is still only around 1%

Ta1kinPeace · 02/02/2019 22:08

TM must be dancing a jig if the labour party is likely to split

Corbyn was already unelectable
under FPTP two labour parties are an open goal

Can I be thick/curious pesty and born and ask about working at sea and being unimpressed with the feminism boards?

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 02/02/2019 22:09

Aww...I missed ranty, angry winner Mary.

Also, Hazard, rhubarb is a vegetable? This has come of as much of a shock to me as when I found out courgettes and aubergines are fruits.

Had a chat with the very nice man who runs the local deli. He said if it’s No Deal that’s it, it will close him down almost immediately as he brings all his produce in directly from France. Basically doesn’t know if his business will exist in less than eight weeks. How many stories like that up and down the country?

Destiel · 02/02/2019 22:11

pesty
Pretty recent. I think the damage has been done tbh.

Destiel · 02/02/2019 22:11

At least to people my age!

borntobequiet · 02/02/2019 22:13

Hazard can I PM you as I have already derailed a bit? It’s to do with real and imaginary differences between the sexes and perceptions of how and why they are limiting or otherwise...a bit late now but could do it tomorrow.

Destiel if I take a dog to the vets, they do a couple of tests and provide suitable antibiotics. If I go to my doctors, I see a nurse practitioner and they provide the cheapest antibiotics that will probably work. Fine until like DD you end up in hospital on IV antibiotics. A simple test would have avoided two years of complications.
