Corbyn would have to come out and say that A50 will be revoked and cannot see that happening, a GE would surely be disasterous at this stage? Mind you the whole thing is a bloody disaster anyhow.

SillySallySingsSongs · 25/01/2019 08:39

Only May can call a snap election, which isn't going to happen.

Corbyn could go for another vote of no confidence, which he said he will do again. However other opposition parties have said basically he had his chance and they won't support anither motion.

Crimson72 · 25/01/2019 08:47

It’s going to be no deal, isn’t it? There’s just over two months to go and I honestly can’t see any other way out of this mess!

It can't be no deal it just can't be....

noblegiraffe · 25/01/2019 08:59

Leave would probably win another referendum because Remain don’t have any clear decent leaders and don’t have any narrative apart from ‘leavers were lied to/project fear’. Leavers still have a glorious vision of a post-Brexit future for plucky Brits willing to take the leap AND they won the first referendum so can argue that we should just get on with honouring the vote or democracy will be destroyed.

noodlenosefraggle · 25/01/2019 09:03

I know but If I was her I'd resign and bloody do it then leave the country

noodlenosefraggle · 25/01/2019 09:09

Tactically I think Labour are idiots to not say they will revoke A50. Who on earth is going to vote for them? They have a few 100000 very vocal membership, which is dropping at an alarming rate. Scotland isn't going to vote for them. They voted en masse for the SNP, which is a remain party in a remain region and they actually have a decent Conservative party leader. But yes I agree the chances of having a GE are remote. I think what will happen is the WA will eventually get through because the majority of MP's would rather that than a no deal be pushed through by the head bangers of the erg and the dup.

SillySallySingsSongs · 25/01/2019 09:28

Tactically I think Labour are idiots to not say they will revoke A50.

They maybe but it won't happen because Corbyn, his team and the influential members of the front bench, if they were honest, are actually brexiteers.

Doubletrouble99 · 25/01/2019 10:15

Passport - I can imagine remain voters mixing up 'no deal' and 'no brexit'. But I am puzzled yet again at the suggestion that it would be the leavers would be dumb enough to be confused by this!

FinallyHere · 25/01/2019 12:19

I am terrified by the thought of another referendum, not everyone understands the issues and lots still believe the lies, even the ones that have been refuted.

Revoking A50 is the only safe way forward

jasjas1973 · 25/01/2019 14:00

Lots of people, leave or remain would be confused by no deal = no brexit.

Its a fairly obvious conclusion, if i don't get that pay rise i was negotiating, i don't then get a pay cut! or if i don't trade in my car for a new one, i don't suddenly lose my old car! (or if you re a leaver, still get to have the new one lol!)

Many people switch off entirely at the first sentence that has Brexit in it and have zero interest in brexit or politics any more..... the ch4 drama on Brexit got around 2m viewers.

noodlenosefraggle · 25/01/2019 16:56

I do agree that many people aren't interested in Brexit or politics, but I didnt watch the Brexit drama because the whole situation makes my blood boil and sends me into a depression at the same time, so watching a programme about it was more than I could take! I am interested in Politics, I used to love it and was a complete politics nerd. Now, I hate it. I feel utterly betrayed.

Bosscastle · 25/01/2019 17:07

Voted Remain but another Referendum wouldn't solve anything as I fear Leave would win again.
It's the not knowing that's the worst. If its going to be no deal then at least we have a few weeks to try to prepare as best we can.

It's a nightmare that we can't wake up from.

HoustonBess · 28/01/2019 11:44

I really wish there was a political party who would come out and say -

No deal is a terrible option that will impoverish the country and reduce our power, so we won't support that.

Any deal leaves us following EU regulations but without a say over them, so we won't support that.

Revoking article 50 and remaining is the best option, WHILE holding a major exercise/commission looking into the reasons people voted for Brexit so real changes can be made that will address the reasons why people voted for Brexit. Ok, some people voted actually understanding what it meant but many just wanted to shake things up.

I'd imagine something like enforcing rules on EU citizens needing to return to their home countries after three months if unable to support themselves and devolving more funding away from London and the SE to poorer parts of the country would go a long way towards resolving the issue.

Also a major initiative to improve UK involvement in EU politics, so people understand it better and take MEPs more seriously, contribute more to EU debates etc. There should also be a more mature political discourse where politicians can't just use the EU as a bogeyman/scapegoat for their own failings.

FinallyHere · 28/01/2019 11:49

@HoustonBess ooohh, yes please, that does sound like a promising way forward.

Just a pity so much power is in the hands of people who have reason to avoid the EU measures against tax avoidance.
