There is something catastrophically 'broken' about the governance of the UK.The number of 'experts' who claim that the UK will be better off outside the EU are very small; and are involved in 'thinktanks' who have dodgy connections and if their 'data' is analysed you discover that they conveniently miss out whole areas of negative benefits.
The fact that so many in the cabinet are 'happy' to go along with ignoring balanced views and are seemingly prepared to rush headlong into a 'no deal' scenario. The other fact that they have been so publicly undiplomatic with all the countries that it needs to work with in future, like it or not speaks volumes. Civil servants that we would never normally hear about who do the real work in the background who maintain a stable ship have been ignored I presume or have been replaced by teenagers on drugs.
Until the UK actually gets a grip and decides properly what it wants it will be of no use to the EU, and should therefore not revoke.
If the UK wanted to leave, it could have done relatively painlessly but as a process it would need possibly 10 years of careful negotiation, working out all the issues BEFORE actually calling A50. The approach taken by the UK is basically a major flounce followed by a 'Kevin and Perry' style idiocy. With major issues such as Trump, Putin, ISIS and gradual global dominance of China, who is quietly ruthless, the EU need dependable members.

Tanith · 02/01/2019 14:39

I don’t agree. Governments change. I think this particular one is spectacularly inept, but that’s showing throughout their governance, tbh.
I don’t see why the British people should suffer even more due to their incompetence: we’ll be electing another lot in a year or two.

I have an idea. Why don’t all these multimillionaires who so desperately want Brexit put their money where their mouths are and raise some of that £4billion among themselves?
Why don’t they take steps to ensure that the vulnerable don’t bear the brunt of this huge change they desire?

I think many of us know the answer to that one.

onlyconnect · 02/01/2019 14:43

I'm definitely in.

RevokeRemainReform · 02/01/2019 14:47

Until the UK actually gets a grip and decides properly what it wants it will be of no use to the EU, and should therefore not revoke

The EU wants us to remain - they're rather fond of our money. You stay in your ivory tower in France, LeClerc old boy, and those of us who care about the UK will fight to revoke and remain.

BackInTime · 02/01/2019 15:08

I’m in. Let’s not waste any more time and money on this farce that will make everyone worse off. This is not democracy, no one voted to be poorer and for millions to be spent on disaster prevention and things like ferry companies that don’t have any ships.

1tisILeClerc · 02/01/2019 15:14

RevokeRemainReform
{and those of us who care about the UK will fight to revoke and remain.}
I voted to remain. Having spent most of my working life living and paying tax in England I would appreciate not having everything taken away from me, which is what the Leave voters are achieving, so I don't need to be lectured by you.I have written to my 'ex' MP who hasn't been courteous enough to reply.
The EU WANTED the UK to remain but as the UK government has been playing the 'teenager' card and has vandalised much of what the EU does, and incurred vast costs unnecessarily it is difficult to see that the 'open arms' will stay open much more. The UK has given up on statesmanship.

1tisILeClerc · 02/01/2019 15:19

{This is not democracy, no one voted to be poorer}
By listening to lies written on buses and voting leave without thinking things through, yes 17.4 million DID vote to become poorer.
I voted to remain which would have meant a modest increase or possibly decrease in quality of life, roughly tracking the fortunes of the more affluent members of the EU.

RevokeRemainReform · 02/01/2019 15:47

so I don't need to be lectured by you

And I don't need you, LeClerc, to keep mansplaining on thread after thread. The EU still want us to remain. They need to reform as does the UK.

MyNameIsArthur · 02/01/2019 16:01

I believe we are only allowed to revoke if done in a democratic way ie through a parliamentary vote to revoke or another referendum or through a general election

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2019 16:33

I'm with you.
So what are we going to do about it?

jasjas1973 · 02/01/2019 16:47

I ve written to my MP, no10, the labour party.

this is one of the many sites out there that will help you contact your MP, you write what you like.
They care more than anything about being re-elected!

Thisisanoutrage · 02/01/2019 17:08

I’m with you. I’ve written to my MP. He campaigned to leave so i’d be surprised if I was listened to. How do we get heard?

jasjas1973 · 02/01/2019 17:31

Write to him again, ask him to vote down Mays deal, after than other options open up..... :)

SusanWalker · 02/01/2019 17:38

I'm in. As I've said on other threads revoke and set up a department for investment in the regions. Have a department set up specifically to ensure that infrastructure projects and inward investment is spread out across the country - and not just on a north/south divide which is a way too simplistic view. But seaside towns, rural areas, pockets of deprivation in rich areas. And for this department to enact infrastructure projects as needed and encourage investment, which would be easier if the infrastructure was there.

Also address the poverty in this country.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2019 18:40

haha about me being able to persuade my MP. He must have a filing cabinet full of my letters by now.
He's hard leave.

1tisILeClerc · 02/01/2019 18:58

{I don’t see why the British people should suffer even more due to their incompetence: we’ll be electing another lot in a year or two.}
At present some Tories are even more 'extreme out' than Mrs May.
With JC in charge (using the term loosely) he also wants out. It would take a significant rethink to get someone very 'pro' Europe as it will need to not just 'OK' it will need to be a significantly strong wish to stay in Europe, say 70% in favour. With the lies that have been spread already over the last 40 odd years, and more specifically the last couple, that will be a tall order.

RevokeRemainReform · 02/01/2019 19:27

I've written to my MP - again - today. He's a Remainer in an unassailable Tory seat which voted Leave but I'm pretty sure his constituents wouldn't really care if we remained.

He's in favour of the WA but I've urged him to vote against and go for revoke. I've told him to make pretty sure we don't leave without a deal.

I've resigned from the Labour Party and told them it's because of JC's position on Brexit.

I'm stuck for what else to do - I feel powerless but not hopeless.

GirlsBlouse17 · 02/01/2019 20:36

I wrote to my tory MP regarding a second referendum but in a snarky reply he said he would not endorse a second referendum and that all the constituents he has spoken to just want us to get on with Brexit.

GirlsBlouse17 · 02/01/2019 20:49

I don't know if it's a fair analogy but do you give your kids what they want just to make them happy. No, you often have to do things that are unpopular or say no to them for their own benefit, welfare, health, safety etc. And this is because you know best what is good for them. Maybe our Parliament just need to do the grown up thing , even if it is not altogether popular and vote to revoke article 50 and stop this because if they don't, it is likely to do this nation alot of harm

SusanWalker · 02/01/2019 20:57

Well obviously not all his constituents GirlsBlouse17 or is he saying your view doesn't count?

I agree with what you say about parliament growing the fuck up. I'm sure lots of people would vote for a minimum state income but if the government can't afford it then it would have to say so. They manage to get out of doing things they don't like or can't manage all the time.

GirlsBlouse17 · 02/01/2019 21:18

He actually sounded annoyed in his letter! I have voted conservatives on many occasions over the years (I know! I know!) but if the government don't give us a second referendum, then I will never vote for this party again. I would not vote Labour either right now. Lib dems seem the best option going forward.

It is time our Parliament grew up and work together for the good of this country and do what is needed to be done rather than worrying about getting voted for. After all, what they decide now will affect their children too and their grandchildren etc
