Welcome to 2019.

Bit of a different thread starter; instead of me speculating what are your predictions for the coming year politically? Will be interesting to see how people are viewing things right now.

How is Brexit going to play out?

Who is going to be framed as the scapegoat for whatever scenario you think likely?

What are going to be the biggest political issues that the media / politicians push (as opposed to what the real issues are)?

What is going to be the most shocking thing that will happen either here or abroad?

What will happen with Trump?

Who will be the next Tory leader and when?

Whats on the cards for the various political parties in general?

Lico, good shout. I’ve got enough to last me until March...

BiglyBadgers · 03/01/2019 20:43

Blood hell, is Seaborne run by Grayling's brother or something? Hmm

I have been trying to build up some stock if my tablets I take for epilepsy and the minimal effects of Lyme I am left with, but also wondering about how I might get a private prescription if I need one . I only have about 2 weeks supply. Not looked into this yet. I collect my new prescription when I return I suppose that is going to give me a inkling if there will be any shortage of the medicines I take.

Someone posted in 48% Prepper about high possibility of snow in the middle of Jan.

How come Theresa gets as many votes as she likes, but the country is stuck with a 30 month old one

I was just thinking the exact same thing DRG

Sostenueto · 03/01/2019 21:46

How can you stock up on meds 2beesornot2bees? I only get a months supply at a time and as I have to take every day I don't get any left over?Confused

Some border checks are legally unavoidable under WTO rules

  • both the EU and the UK need to either secure their new external borders wrt imports, or open them up to the world.

These checks can be well back from the border and say just on main roads, to cover larger goods flows and on RoI factories using imported British goods

Due to NI special circumstances, both the RoI and UK can probably say for a while they are still organising border measures
but eventually it will have to happen.

The RoI is probably hoping the UK will cave in within 6 months and sign anything in order to start negotiations on a trade deal.

bellinisurge · 03/01/2019 21:54

I saw that @GD12 . Fucking hell.
I'm old - this isn't ancient bloody history to me.

GD12 · 03/01/2019 21:56

Indeed @bellinisurge.

BigChocFrenzy · 03/01/2019 21:59

2bees Your doctor can probably refer you to a private specialist,
but you may need to check yourself if any of the specialists within your travel area actually do have access to additional stocks

BigChocFrenzy · 03/01/2019 22:02

I was 12 when the Troubles started in 68, so I can remember the whole horrible aga.
Every week, the tv news reported a bombing or shooting - every night when the Troubles really got going
and the bombings on the mainland started around 71 iirc

bellinisurge · 03/01/2019 22:06

@BigChocFrenzy anything to show a border, anywhere near the border will be a target. And in breach of GFA. Not just talking a bit of anti social behaviour here. That is a fecking disaster.

BigChocFrenzy · 03/01/2019 22:08

Grayling is confident the ferries would run by April.

“We haven’t plucked this out of thin air”

Oh yes you have
and you can't even implement a new train timetable without chaos,
but you are going to creat a new ferry service from scratch to handle a situation that even experienced ro-ro ferry operators have never faced before 🤦🏻‍♀️

BigChocFrenzy · 03/01/2019 22:09

bellini I know it will, but that's what would have happen with No Deal, because of WTO rules;
the alternative would be Irexit in all but name.

RedToothBrush · 03/01/2019 22:14

What would a Tory popularist desparate to be the next PM do?

Police reinforcements for Northern Ireland in case of no-deal Brexit

Almost 1,000 officers from rest of UK to start training to deal with trouble arising from hard border

What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

If there is a shortage of meds the selling of meds privately should be outlawed. The meds should be distributed fairly especially life threatening illnesses. No one should be able to profit out of a crisis like shortage of medications.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 03/01/2019 22:26

I must admit, I didn’t realise private doctor’s would have some sort of secret supply. I thought people were buying private prescriptions in advance of Brexit, whilst most medication is still readily available.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 03/01/2019 22:27

Doctors, not doctor’s - random apostrophe shame Blush

Arj Singh @singharj
UPDATE: Department for Transport says the no-deal Brexit firm (the one with no ships) put terms and conditions from a takeaway food shop on its website in "error".

But why is the Department for Transport issuing statements on behalf of Seaborne Freight?

www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/brexit-ferry-firm-accused-of-copying-web-page-from-a-takeaway-outlet_uk_5c2df54de4b08aaf7a965bc4?ncid=other_twitter_cooo9wqtham&utm_campaign=share_twitter
Brexit Ferry Firm Accused Of Copying Web Page From A Takeaway Shop
"Fish and chips, curry, Chinese, kebab or pizza. Seaborne Freight certainly have plans to take away our money."

Arj Singh @singharj
I'm told the DfT was simply repeating Seaborne's own statement, which I have not been sent despite contacting the company hours ago.

Still not got Seaborne's statement

'Properly vetted'.

Well my illness is pretty unpleasant if not life threatening. Being on my present meds, I have avoided seizures for about 10 years and don’t want them to return. Yes I think private prescriptions are unfair too.

My dose changed about 3 months ago and I was given some smaller doses as well as my usual ones to manage the change without side effects I still have some of those left.

jasjas1973 · 03/01/2019 22:30

Sos Write to your MP demanding he/she support a PV or better still a revocation.

Brexit isn't an external threat caused by the Soviets blockading the North sea, May can stop it tomo.

As for meds, we live in a free market economy and yes i need a certain medication, without which i get severe headaches, i ve now 4 months supply which i purchased privately, which is expensive but just the start of how brexit will hit the poorest in society, remember there are shortages now, we are still in the EU.
