The ERG to be the grinch that stole the Tory Party Christmas who ultimately get what they deserve.

To remain in the EU

Donald Trump's impeachment

For politics to be boring again

Now if they had a non-toxic leader, Labour would have a landslide

Too right. Utterly feeble opposition, with a toxic leader.

TatianaLarina · 13/12/2018 08:30

However chin up. I voted Brexit. Voted Labour. Got a hung Parliament. Destroyed UKIP. Tories on their last legs. Looking doubtful even the Sky propaganda machine will do it for them

The delusion among Lexiters that by voting for hard right nationalist xenophobic racist policies driven by the worst of the Tories you have somehow dealt a blow against them is amusing.

The Tories would haven imploded anyway, they didn’t need Brexit to help them along.

GrabEmByThePatriarchy · 13/12/2018 08:32

I'd say immigrants played something of a part in it peregrina, including immigrants from countries that aren't actually in the EU.

A strong government is one with a strong opposition

That much was obvious to actual immigrants from the start.

Alastair Burt @ alastairburtuk
They never, ever stop. Votes against them, letters going in late- nothing matters to ERG. After the apocalypse, all that will be left will be ants and Tory MPs complaining about Europe and their leader.

This is a Tory MP saying this!

I really don't like May, but at the moment, I am glad she won the vote.

BiglyBadgers · 13/12/2018 09:32

I am the same peregrina. It's really a case of least worst option when it comes to the Tory party leadership and it is pretty awful to realise that May is not even close to the worst that could happen.

Nikki Morgan was talking of the right wing of the Tories splitting. But if they do that, that definitely make's May's Government a minority one, and her chances of surviving long would be extremely slender, so a GE would no doubt soon follow. Therefore, I can't see them doing that - they get most of what they want sniping from the sidelines, and just have to keep it up until March now, to get the crash out that they so desperately desire.

Once again I would like to ask, where are our regular Leavers - surely they have an opinion on the events of the last couple of days?

SimplySteve · 13/12/2018 10:23

Jacob Rees-Mogg to be forever silenced.

CaraCarbonara · 13/12/2018 10:24

Reminded that panto season is upon us with Ian Duncan Smith playing Pinocchio on Today this morning.

IDS: I didn't put a letter in. Oh no I didn't.

OH YES YOU DID!

BiglyBadgers · 13/12/2018 10:27

In all the excitement I'd completely forgotten about the EU summit today. What on earth is May going to say. How excruciatingly humiliating to have to arrive and say not only did she not even have a vote on the WA but she has spent the time she should have been getting agreement in a pissing contest with members of her own party.

red I've posted before, that imo the Tory party always survives - because people keep voting for them, of course

in nuclear war terms, the Tory Party have become the cockroaches of politics.

They don't care how hideous the world becomes or what detritus they have to wade through, so long as they survive.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2018 10:36

Of course anyone claiming to be on the left, but who allies with the far right - and cheers on the ERG -
is only making things worse for the less well off

Corbyn has been pandering to the anti-FOM voters, which when added to his pandering to the anti-semites,
makes me think the far right cooties have rubbed off on him too.

1tisILeClerc · 13/12/2018 10:41

{I've just seen a post on social media suggesting that the Yellow Vest movement is coming to the UK now too.}
On the basis that the 'grass roots of the GJ were locals complaining about significant fuel price hikes, and are mostly ordinary folk showing their support by putting a vi vis jacket on their dashboard and are mums, dads and grandparents going to work/school/supermarket, I can't imagine them going to the UK.
I would presume it is the 'special' ones from Paris and some of the other cities who have been 'encouraged' by some very unsavoury sources.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2018 10:44

Tom Newton Dunn@tnewtondunn

Steve Barclay: “The Prime Minister now has the time to have discussions with European colleagues” #BBCR4today.
Clear now that No10's new strategy is to push a deal vote as late as possible (Jan 20?) to ratchet up max pressure on Tory rebels/DUP to fold.

David Jones just picked a fight over the use of the word “disorderly”, suggesting it is evidence of civil service bias 🤦🏻‍♀️

BigChocFrenzy · 13/12/2018 10:46

LeClerc The far left & far right allying together is never good for the rest of us
Whenever they agree on something, that should flash a warning sign that at least they are using existing issues to make trouble.

Surprisingly they can get on together for quite a while, enough to do a lot of damage, e.g. the Hitler-Stalin pact

{Sir Mark Sedwill saying we have to have some sort of deal necessary for a smooth exit}
Oh look boys and girls, Santa May happens to have such a document in her handbag and it's only 585 pages long!
Maybe the EU can rework it a bit to make it more acceptable. Change the colour of the paper and put some holly wreath prints on it.

RedToothBrush · 13/12/2018 10:48

Labour Whips @labourwhips
The Government have just confirmed that there will be no meaningful vote before🎄and have failed to announce the business for the w/c 7 Jan. Obviously not expecting the PM to make enough ‘progress’.

Laura Kuenssberg @bbclaurak
This could change...but looks like govt not expecting to put Brussels agreement to Commons before Christmas

Obviously out to impress the EU.
I suppose it will just reinforce the need for preparations by the EU for a crash out.
