Westminstenders: A vote too far?

999 replies

RedToothBrush · 10/12/2018 09:16

The ECJ have ruled that the UK can unilaterally revoke A50.

There maybe lots of other news today, but that's the big one.

May has her big vote tomorrow. Or does she.

Will she survive until the end of the week?

{Very much looks to me like May is doing this humiliating public round to drive the point home to Westminster’s village of idiots because they just don’t listen.}

Seems like a good way of getting out of the house for a few days!

MissMalice · 11/12/2018 19:12

Yep I had already though this was more of a tick box exercise BCF. “You sent me back to demand more, I did, they said no “

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 11/12/2018 19:13

‘Pick up negotiations to see if they can find aBrexit deal that could get through the house’

This is either an outright lie, or he’s a complete idiot, right?

TatianaLarina · 11/12/2018 19:13

I mean, genuinely, are there people who still believe the EU will renegotiate or deal with the U.K. on a 1 to 1 basis?

Well Arlene for one. She told May yesterday the backstop must go - like it’s gonna.

1tisILeClerc · 11/12/2018 19:21

How many times do you have to tell a toddler they can't have sweeties?
How many times do you have to tell adult MPs that the WA and backstop is all there is?

Alwaysbekind2014 · 11/12/2018 19:27

I’m confused sorry help me out I have been not watching all day

Why did they vote down Corbyn debate about the vote ? I thought they were all against delaying the vote ?

Focalpoint · 11/12/2018 19:38

Just listened to Arlene on C4 news accusing the Eu playing of playing "hardball". What a complete and utter joke - "hardball" apparently means they won't just ditch the result of the long and very hard negotiated compromise to protect the Good Friday agreement and keep an open border.

And she trots out the line that Dublin, London and Brussels have said they don't want a border so let's just not have one.

And the presenter didn't challenge her?

GD12 · 11/12/2018 19:39

Very, very strong rumours the 48 letters are in and an announcement is going to be made soon. I can't help thinking this is had because as nuts as May is, she is to an extent keeping the hard Brexit loonies at bay. Massive danger is if she goes one of them gets in power and happily drives us over the cliff.

Alwaysbekind2014 · 11/12/2018 19:42

Where are the rumours ? Oh gosh I’ve lost what’s going on 😂🤣😭

GD12 · 11/12/2018 19:49

Various political commentators are reporting it on Twitter and apparently one cabinet source. It may be rubbish of course.

GD12 · 11/12/2018 19:52

@christopherhope
Asked if the 48 letters is going to be breached, a Cabinet minister tells The Daily Telegraph tonight that "it looks that way". #Brexit

@jamesrplumb

Source tells me that letters “flew in today” and the 48 letters required to trigger a vote of no confidence HAVE been reached. An announcement is expected by Sir Graham Brady either tomorrow afternoon or Thursday, with a ballot taking place next week after PM has been to #EUCO.

Senior Tory: "The Irish should really know their place".

Otherwise known as the reason the backstop is needed.

Hazardswan · 11/12/2018 20:14

😱😲😳😩

48 letters

If you're of a religious persuasion maybe start praying for a remain/no brexit Tory leader?

RedToothBrush · 11/12/2018 20:19

Robert Peston@peston
I said on @itvnews that predicting when @theresa_may goes is mug’s game. But someone I actually trust in all this tells me the 48 letters threshold for no-confidence vote In her by Tory MPs has been passed. Might be wrong. And I might be a prize mug. But thought I should mention

GD12 · 11/12/2018 20:20

Will she survive it? Oh God, some of the Tory nutjobs getting into power is terrifying.

RedToothBrush · 11/12/2018 20:21

Nick Robinson @ bbcnickrobinson
Tonight we're going to discover if the Brexiteers have learned the first rule of politics which - as LBJ said - is being able to count (to 48)

If the Maastricht veterans write letters that could make the difference. Today Bill Cash said PM had 'reached the point of no return' & IDS spoke of a 'mood shift'

Tories showing their true colours. Nothing has changed.

lonelyplanetmum · 11/12/2018 20:30

I think she'd win it.

Google tells me the rules stipulate that the leader needs to win a simple majority of those MPs voting to win the ballot. So 159? Wouldn't she win?

GD12 · 11/12/2018 20:31

@alexwickham

Here we go... a senior government source says they expect a confidence vote imminently

Loletta · 11/12/2018 20:32

Where does Labour's vote of no confidence they intend to call before Christmas (according to J Chapman on LBC this afternoon) fit in with a Tory leadership challenge? Can Labour still go for a No confidence vote?

jasjas1973 · 11/12/2018 20:32

I'm hoping for Boris, i suspect a few Tories will quit if he or another ERG loony type gets in.

Andrew Bridgen MP reckons a no-deal will mean 2 days of disruption at Dover and then everyone will wonder what all the fuss was about...... he gets my vote lol!

There's going to be some very embarrassed journos if we don't have a Brady appearance now.

If TM loses a no confidence vote that means there'll be a leadership race won't there? So hypothetically we could get someone sensible?

Am I clutching at straws?

RedToothBrush · 11/12/2018 20:38

Pippa Crerar@pippacrerar
I know we've marched up this hill before, but I've now been told by two solid Tory sources - crucially neither of them "usual suspects" - that the 48 letters have been reached. Ultimately we'll have to wait for Sir Graham Brady in the morning...

Thats itv, telegraph, mirror and BuzzFeed reasonably confident it's on, and the BBC slightly more reserved (as is there way to not get drawn into rumours as much) hintly strongly they suspect its on as the mood has changed.

We'll get a Tory MP.

Name a sensible Tory MP.
