Westminstenders: A vote too far?

RedToothBrush · 10/12/2018 09:16

The ECJ have ruled that the UK can unilaterally revoke A50.

There maybe lots of other news today, but that's the big one.

May has her big vote tomorrow. Or does she.

Will she survive until the end of the week?

Yep GD.

May is trying to marginalise the HoC if it doesn't take the deal - which makes the meaningful vote, well meaningless which is what they were afraid of.

It could well end up as

May: Take the deal
HoC: Nope
May: oh shit you know when I said my deal or no deal, I didn't really mean it.

And we either no deal or may 28th/ 28th is one almighty cluster fuck ending in a no deal / 11th hour revoke or extension scenario.

The omens aren't good.

Grieve III has effectively been killed in practice although it stands in principle.

How can anyone be proud of British Democracy today?

GD12 · 10/12/2018 17:11

Agreed Red Tooth. No deal chances are very, very high now.

IsobelKarev · 10/12/2018 17:11

Sorry (again) from my ignorance - what is Grieve III?

GD12 · 10/12/2018 17:12

Placemats, probably March 28 when she'll try and terrify Parliament into voting for it.

Hazardswan · 10/12/2018 17:12

It's getting no deal vibes again.

(On a side note if i have to hear workers who need to put food in the table or thereabouts one more time I will scream.)

Yikes. No10 spokesman says he is “pretty hopeful” that Parliament’s Christmas recess will go ahead as planned.

MAKE THEM SIT ON CHRISTMAS DAY

OP posts:
Hazardswan · 10/12/2018 17:14

Make them hurl brussel sprouts at each other Grin

Gift ERG a monopoly set to keep them busy.

placemats · 10/12/2018 17:15

Russian Roulette politics?

WTF?

nomorearsingmermaids · 10/12/2018 17:17

Why would a no confidence vote not work?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/12/2018 17:17

Perhaps the Christmas recess being cancelled would focus their minds a bit.

They can have a break for the Queen’s speech at 3.

RedToothBrush · 10/12/2018 17:17

Grieve III was a motion which parliament voted to support whilst politically binding to remove the threat of accidental no deal by requiring the government to come back to the House after a certain time frame if accidental no deal Brexit was still in play.

This puts that date on 28th March. So too late for the House to do anything in practice and because its only politically binding not legally, at this stage could be easily dismissed by the government as too late or some other such bollocks and there wouldn't be parliamentary time to challenge this.

If you were a country with half a brain, several million starving peasants and copper mines you might want to trade with the UK. But you go into negotiations now, after the fiasco today, with your head held high and the cards firmly in your favour.

TheElementsSong · 10/12/2018 17:19

I am so appalled right now.

DGRossetti · 10/12/2018 17:19

That's twice Grieve trusted the PM and been shafted.

With all due respect, if he ever practices law again, I hope he's not my barrister.

Minimammoth · 10/12/2018 17:20

Arghhhhh.

Just that really

plaidlife · 10/12/2018 17:20

If any of us were working in an organisation that close to total meltdown we wouldnt all be allowed to go on leave for several weeks.

RedToothBrush · 10/12/2018 17:21

Justine Greening @ justinegreening
PM now won’t confirm any date for the promised meaningful vote - it’s hugely concerning. Parliament has gone round in circles on Brexit. Now today, even that’s stopped...Britain must find a direction. Kicking the can down the road again solves nothing. #ParliamentNoSayPeopleNoSay

In response to the Jan 21 deadline delay which means grieve III falls on 28th March

Enough of this stupidity, time for a military coup. There is a bit of disarray in the Girl Guides from reading on other threads but the Scouts could manage it (and they include girls).

BigChocFrenzy · 10/12/2018 17:28

howabout It IS the ERG I blame more than Labour - they belong to the fucking useless party in government
and they are driving No Deal for reasons of ideology and profit

The function of the Opposition is to Oppose .
Corbyn would be a reasonably competent student agitator, but is hopeless 50 levels up, at his current job.

This whole Brexit clusterfuck was started by the Tories to sort their internal party squabbles
& to stop losing some of their hard right votes to UKIP

They made Brexit into a clusterfuck because they had no plan and no idea not just how the EU works,
but also how UK trade works, JIT, where its food comes from - hello Raab - international flights & shipping , medicines agency, passporting .....
