Current Irish passport timings

Has anyone had any recent experience of applying for an Irish passport in terms of how long it has taken to issue it? I haven’t had one since I was 13 (30yrs ago) and then it was only a 1 yr one as it was considered better to have an Irish one for visiting Russia.
I was born in NI and family too (as far back as I know) but am I now living in London. The passport agency have said 10 December for the issue date after receiving my application on 7 November. It seems very quick to me as I’m sure they are very busy. Would be interested in anyone who has applied recently where there was no complexity over the entitlement to the passport.

DH and his sibling applying for theirs now but don't know about timings. Just trying to decide if should register the kids as foreign births but that's a lot more expensive!

bellinisurge · 17/11/2018 15:02

It's pretty quick and there's a tracker thing online.

We got baby DD's first passport this summer. We're in NI, the wait time was quoted as 31 working days, which was about right. That was at height of summer though.

Thanks everyone.

Took about 3 weeks to get mine, from the date they received the application. But that was back in August.

lurker101 · 18/11/2018 06:13

I applied in person in London this week - there was a multitude of appointments available (much more than anything we’ve ever seen when applying for visas for various countries for OH) and when I arrived for my appointment there was only two others in the large room (one of whom was collecting theirs).
I was very surprised as like you I expected there would have been more people applying

Toffeecea · 18/11/2018 20:52

I sent our applications (mine and 2 DC) through the Post Office service (NI) and they took just over 3 weeks. Straightforward applications and no issues - other than the panic to find my Dds birth certificate before I remembered her school had it. The online tracker was definitely useful as I was worried about the wait

BroomstickOfLove · 19/11/2018 16:36

Oh, that's a relief. My kids have had British passports up until now, but those have expired and I was worried about them being without a passport in case we need to go and see family.

Iggity · 08/01/2019 09:16

Just as an update, it’s now been 9 weeks since my application was received. The expected date of issue was 10 Dec but no sign of it arriving. I know they contacted the person who countersigned the form today so hopefully it will soon be here.

I seem to be in the same boat now too - mine was estimated 01/01/19 and no sign of it - it has been pushed back in the online tracker. Hopefully they’ll be through soon

QuinionsRainbow · 08/01/2019 11:39

I renewed mine just before Christmas, and it came back within a week. Most impressed!

WeShouldOpenABar · 08/01/2019 11:41

Renewals are so quick now but first time ones are very slow, even getting ds first one took a couple of months

lurker101 · 08/01/2019 11:45

Yeah I’ve just looked on the website and first time applications from GB are now averaging 43 working days turnaround

Dulra · 10/01/2019 12:03

I was renewing my daughters passport (irish) got it yesterday but it had been sent dec 10th. Way longer then it should have been think Christmas has had impact

Iggity · 11/01/2019 23:39

Passport is now in the dispatch phase finally. The day after my reference was contacted it was printed. Hoping it will come next week. So roughly 2 months plus the time for it to come back to the UK and be sent. I feel quite excited about getting it.

Just updating for anyone following - my passport has now also been dispatched today, so just under 11 weeks from appointment in London to dispatch from Ireland.
