Tonight the Corbyn and McDonnell Labour Party supported the Tory Party in improving the tax allowance for higher rate tax payers.

Yes you read that right. Did you even blink?

You've been so conditioned into seeing non existant opposition which seems to go against everything the Labour Party stand for that you no longer are shocked.

That's what 2 and a half years of Brexit has done to you.

You no longer care that Boris Johnson got £14,000 from the Saudis a couple of days before the Khashoggi murder. You know longer care that the former Defence Secretary is employed for £75,000 a year to advise a major Saudi Investor.

You are just happy that Trump hasn't started a war with Iran or North Korea yet. And hasn't started a civil war. (Though he's trying hard and next week is his best opportunity to stir it all up). You aren't surprised to hear that predictions are that the Democrats will fail to make gains in the mid terms.

You've suffered the 4657 story about how Therea May is just about to be challenged for the leadership.

You've heard about the squad set up at the Home Office to clear up all the cases the media get their hands on as the latest burning injustice. You are hearing that EU nationals who have been promised they are 'safe' are being subjected to questions about their right to stay. And you just shrug and say, "Yeah well thats the Home Office for you. The Bastards". And you do mean it, but you are so jaded by it all. And you worry that another 12 months from now, you won't even be interested in another story like that, and the press will stop printing them as they no longer interest the reader. What happens to your friends, your family, or even you then? Who is going to care then?

And then you have today.

A day where you hear that Bannon is being investigated by the Senate Intel Committee, Farage has been upgraded to the FBI's Really Naughty List and Banks has (FINALLY) been refered to the NCA. (We were only speculating on the possibility, on the 26th March...)

And you go 'Ooooooooo maybe there is hope'.

Maybe we COULD remain in the EU and avoid Turnip Soup and wiping your arse with leaves because of the national bog roll shortage. Or at least get a decent deal which suits us as a nation. Maybe, just maybe!

And that lasts for about 2 minutes before you log into twitter and the very first thing you see this:

Tom Newton Dunn @tnewtondunn
Excl: David Cameron tells friends he’d like a return to frontline politics, and fancies Foreign Secretary
www.thesun.co.uk/news/7639377/david-cameron-return-to-politics/

And you let out a high pitched screech as if you are were a dying cat as you remember this is 2018, and it just wants to beat the life out of you.

On the plus side, it shows you do still care enough to think 'Don't let that fucking bastard anywhere near power ever, ever again.'.

Ho hum.

Keep on, keeping on. Don't let the bastards win.
Keep caring. It matters.

I see Gove (amongst others) is pressing for legal advice to be published.

It almost as if he doesn't trust the the UK government either.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 07/11/2018 11:02

Why for the first time in my life am I agreeing with something the DUP are asking for and Gove for that matter?

I only have a reasonable knowledge of how the UK has acted as regards environmental legislation. Whilst it was unbelievably Boris Jonsons father, working for the EU, that was instrumental in getting through that Directive on birds and habitats ( literally when those that mattered were away) it has always been the U.K. who have fought against the EU on interpretation of those Directives trying to seek a more watered down approach ( and defeat their purpose) .

They have been hauled over the coals by the EU court a couple of times as well as being an additional party and probably funding the appellant case. Why else would they appear as apellant along side Galway council for example?

So yes for a long time the U.K. has been viewed as separate and a trouble maker.

{This dislike of "things continental" seems to be a specifically English trait }
Reminds me of the old joke about mummy and baby polar bear:
Baby: are we polar bears?
Mum:yes.
B:polar bears live on the ice?
M:yes.
B: so why am I so damn cold?

The relevance (not much) being that despite being British I have always felt quite 'European'.

Work avoidance ploy number 577, think of obscure 'jokes'.

BigChocFrenzy · 07/11/2018 11:20

Ireland has looked to the European mainland before, for protection against England.

It is only now, withn the formal organisation of the EU, that such help can be effective

  • another reason for English nationlists to hate the EU: not so easy to bully Ireland now, is it

QT has cancelled Banks appearance

Finally! Is the pressure starting to get to them? I was surprised to see Faisal Islam moving to the BBC.

woman11017 · 07/11/2018 13:11

Islam is great.Smile
Certainly bbc must have got one or two emails or calls about Banks missmoon Plus the 9 court cases he's got pending. He's probably a wee bit busy. Wink
@carolecadwalla10/ So that's 9 investigations into crimes committed in EURef or suspected crimes involving National Crime Agency (x2), Met police (x3), ICO (x3). Note this Sunday @observerUK & @openDemocracy published new stories about new allegations, new crimes

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 07/11/2018 13:16

hazard I got an answer from my MP! It’s relatively practical advice, but doesn’t address the issue of perishable medications (or non-cooperative GPs)

The straightforward answer is that nobody really knows the specifics but there is a good summary of the issues here: www.hoganlovellsbrexit.com/blog/uk-government-publishes-no-deal-brexit-guidance-for-medicines-and-medical-devices.
People should try and not worry. Anyone with a condition that is worried should make an appointment to see their GP and make the necessary arrangements for a longer prescription period.

Icantreachthepretzels · 07/11/2018 13:39

I got a proper letter form my MP today. He will not be supporting a people's vote don'tchyaknow - they gave us the final say on our EU membership and we chose to leave. There were campaigns telling us what leave/ remain went and leave was what was chosen.
FURTHERMORE the legitimacy of the referendum was further compounded following the general election when 80% of people voted for a brexit supporting party.
We are leaving the EU next year and they are working towards a deal tat will be mutually beneficial. End of.

I'm keeping the letter for when the weight of public opinion turns (already happened) and the enquiries start. I hope they hang the bastard.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2018 13:51

Well that's great re the idea of everyone making a gp appointment to see their gps to discuss medication. It took me five weeks to see my gp this time round. If everyone who is on long term medication is going to book in to see their gp we'd all best get in quickly.

Annandale · 07/11/2018 13:54

And will GPs get protection from hassle for suddenly spending more on their prescribing budgets than they are supposed to? Especially as the run up to 29 march is tge end of the nhs budget year when the budgetary cupboard is bare?

Peregrina · 07/11/2018 13:59

I'm keeping the letter for when the weight of public opinion turns (already happened) and the enquiries start.

Good thinking, because he will suddenly lose his memory and pretend he never said that. Like our ex-Tory MP who initially voted remain, forgot all about that, then come the election suddenly remembered which way she voted. Her electorate didn't share her memory problems.

Can we stop the world I just want to get off, at what point did this PTA ever think this was a good idea or are we that far gone down the brexity -racist path that this bullshit is coming back from the 70's

1tisILeClerc · 07/11/2018 14:06

Work avoidance #578.
How about all the leave MPs (Mogg and all) get forcibly relocated to the Boston area, perhaps swapping houses with the 30 odd percent that voted remain in that area. They can then try their 'Canute' impressions while singing 'Britannia rules the waves' as the coastline gradually erodes into the sea. 2 jobs done in one.

Mightybanhammer · 07/11/2018 14:12

icantreach - "I hope they hang the bastard."

I do understand your despair and frustration, having had a similar patronising nonsensical series of responses from my own mp, a Tory whip. He even began by saying ' Let me see if I can answer your points for you.' HmmAngry

We really need to guard against extreme language like your comment above though. It's in danger of becoming normalised and that is a very slippery slope.

Mightybanhammer · 07/11/2018 14:18

In contrast I had a fabulous response from my labour MEP who unsurprisingly agreed with my views wholeheartedly.

Thé general nature and tone of his response, as well as his obvious intelligence was a world away from the lazy copy and paste sound bites I get from my representative at Westminster. It was very cheering.

Shame he will be out of a job next year really.

He writes a very good Brexit blog too.

1tisILeClerc · 07/11/2018 14:31

'Remain' is on the moral high ground at present and needs to stay there as it is likely there will be inquiries eventually.

Mightybanhammer · 07/11/2018 14:33

Agreed Leclerc.

lonelyplanetmum · 07/11/2018 14:52

Remain' is on the moral high ground

Agreed.

What worries me about this, other than the fact it's too late, is the reactionary element.

So Cameron (sort of) plugged remain and the people react against that. Suppose for argument's sake TM attempts a volte face and says " we never said Brexit at any price- this is devastating the economy".

If she did this the reactionary element in the electorate will just swing back to an empiristic -we -don't -need- no -one attitude again.

Don't know where this line of thought is going but I'm not sure the moral high ground is sufficient.
