Westminstenders: Crisis. What Crisis

October is slowly rolling into November.

Your eyes, rightly, will be distracted by events the other side of the pond.

It won't be good and it won't be pretty and it will have an impact on what happens here in relation to Brexit in one way or another.

May seems to have headed off trouble makers for now. But that means nothing if she can't get a deal through parliament.

And if you think we are in anyway prepared for No Deal I'd like whatever drugs you are taking. That way lies only disorder and to put it bluntly, deaths.

We MUST find a deal, any deal to prevent that. Desperation is the final ingredients in this mess. Who will blink as they realise what's at stake?

The problem is though, is too few MPs have grasped what's at state, such is the quality of our elected representatives. And that's the truly terrifying bit.

If they can't work out the risk of no deal, they certainly not equipped to handle the fall out of no deal.

If you want to shit yourself anymore, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that the minister responsible for hauling all your food and medical supplies in the event if no deal, is Mr Christopher Grayling.

Start praying.

Seems the UK gearing up for another slap in the face attempt to make Mark Zuckerberg do what they want. This time roping in Canada for support.

www.theregister.co.uk/2018/10/31/uk_canada_parliamentary_committees_request_zuckerberg/

It remains to be seen what Nick Cleggs advice to Mr. Z. will be ....

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2018 17:07

"Norway then Canada":

imo, is like a bloke who has broken up messily with his longterm partner, been a miserable grump to her and now has nowhere to go,

asking an ex, whom he dumped before, if he can live with her at her place for a while, all the usual relationship benefits,

bringing - instead of chocs - just his grubby smalls for her to wash

and telling everyone - loudly - that he'll swan off again as soon as he finds a slimmer woman with bigger boobs.

Norway - like most women - would have more pride and self-worth than that.

MyBrexitIsIll · 31/10/2018 17:14

That's a good comparaison BigChoc

DGRossetti · 31/10/2018 17:15

Norway - like most women - would have more pride and self-worth than that

I think it's slowly (probably some sort of density function) dawning on the gung-ho Brexiteers the situation for a country that was malcontent in one grouping is that it's unlikely to be warmly welcomed into another.

prettybird · 31/10/2018 17:15

Hopefully an independent Scotland will be able to take advantage of that fast-track re-entry to the EU Wink - at least Scotland wants to be a member Grin (And some of its Leave vote was from thrawn EU supporting idiots buggers who wanted to "stick one on that bitch Sturgeon", as she supported Remain, as they assumed Remain would win Confused)

Incidentally - I am blonde at least when I'm not colouring my hair red Wink haired and blue eyed with Germanic/Scandinavian high cheek bones Grin

Dh and ds are the ones with the swarthy olive skins and in dh's case, black eyes. Yet by all accounts, dh is pure Scottish going back many generations (with maybe some NI links too) Confused Definitely a ship-wrecked Spaniard in there somewhere Grin

Someone posted this on another thread

news.sky.com/story/theresa-may-refuses-to-guarantee-medicine-supply-under-no-deal-brexit-11540946

Theresa may has refused to guarantee that the NHS will have enough medicine

Sad
SingingBabooshkaBadly · 31/10/2018 18:37

Hazard Angry although we’ve all been preparing for that situation it’s a shock that she’s not even bothering to lie about it!

We on here all know but no public doesn't get it even now...

Also cant guarantee NHS have enough medicine is it plausible that the NHS will run short but private companies (who are doing the stocking) have stocks and will be selling it at a premium price privately? Who is guaranteeing that the medicine which is being stockpiled is even for the NHS?

Or is my anxiety spiralling?

Also the fuckers government is dropping 200 for 'essential' and 200 wasn't enough but it looks as if their not gonna even reach that now.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 31/10/2018 19:16

And, am I imagining this or is it not that long ago that we were assured all prescription drugs would be stockpiled. Did I are that up? Confused

Quietrebel · 31/10/2018 19:20

hazardswan I share your concerns and was particularly down today. It's hard for you as you are a carer, aren't you? Hang in there 💐. I'm not in that position but it's getting quite overwhelming - and I'm not the kind to panic, normally the glass half-full type- but it's such an accumulation of issues and such cavalier attitude from those in charge, I've started to lose hope. All around me people (Brits as well as non Brits) are either leaving or looking to. It's hard not to notice and stay positive. At the same time, Brexit is like a dirty word no one wants to say.
The industry I'm in is facing lots of different challenges and Brexit won't help. We also have a merger going and that's stressful at the best of times.

Hazardswan · 31/10/2018 19:20

Wouldnt be surprised singing they are lowering our expectations bit by bit.

Quietrebel · 31/10/2018 19:22

Pretty sure you're right but it's hard to keep up. Who knows, maybe they meant it at the time.

Hazardswan · 31/10/2018 19:24

Quiet thank you. Sorry work is causing it's own worries with a merger on top of everything else. I'm hoping as the tension builds something will POP and it'll swing towards sensibility eternal optimist

mrs that sucks about your mum. Hopefully the advice will be changing towards January and they'll maybe ease into it's always sensible to have an adequate supply of meds at home or some such nonsense and your mum will follow suit.

I keep wanting to leave the country, it feels like physical effort to stay even though that's the only logical option.

I know that. But I found it an interesting phrase, given that Brexit stands every chance of breaking up the Union, and was curious whether it was intentional, or incidental.

Yet another thing to file under "Brexit unknowns". Wink

BigChocFrenzy · 31/10/2018 20:07

Some Brexiters even thought they could expand the UK, by forcing the RoI to rejoin
< well, some of them are still delusional about Irish passports and voting rights >

Agustarella · 31/10/2018 20:08

Let's hope that Mr Raab's next visit to Brussels will be to sign the WA, not kill it (again).

Since I'm on a lexical sojourn, that immediately echoes:

I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him

Lol! Since we have seemingly crossed the Rubicon, the Caesar reference must be appropriate.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 31/10/2018 20:19

Dominic Raab is expecting a deal to be confirmed by 21 November.

news.sky.com/story/brexit-secretary-confirms-deal-expected-by-mid-november-11541039

The end is now firmly in sight and, while obstacles remain, it cannot be beyond us to navigate them.

"We have resolved most of the issues and we are building up together what the future relationship should look like and making real progress."

So, most of the issues are resolved except the issues that aren’t resolved - like NI?

So, in what way is this progress? Confused

Groundhog Day.

woman11017 · 31/10/2018 20:28

Dominic Raab is expecting a deal to be confirmed by 21 November
Naah, we're just waiting for the end.
Which will be the beginning.
Of the end.

Westminstenders: Crisis. What Crisis
SingingBabooshkaBadly · 31/10/2018 20:31

Hazard, Mrsr8 me too.

We’ve only recently moved and love where we are. But, in the dead of night, I can’t help thinking we should have just pocketed the proceeds from our house sale and gone. The main obstacles would be language barriers (typical linguistically challenged Brits Blush ) and DH’s health. But maybe we should have considered a nice little house in Dublin...

Agustarella · 31/10/2018 20:40

Re the earlier conversation about white British people being caught out by the hostile environment policy, I've just remembered that a bloke I knew at university who was the poshest whitest English person imaginable, had his son's British passport application turned down. It was in the papers (old story now).

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/windrush-latest-british-high-commissioner-arthur-snell-son-uk-passport-denied-citizen-a8321056.html

Moral of the story: if people at this level are having trouble with the Home Office, heaven help ordinary citizens.

mathanxiety · 31/10/2018 20:51

Wrt the Afghanistan background of the new head of the civil service, Mark Sedwill, and also the comparison with WW1. (Post by eyeballscauldron)

It's all very gung ho of course, and the appeal to certain sections of the population is very obvious.

But there is the implication that the UK will be facing Afghanistan-like levels of collapse of the civil administration, with WW1 levels of command style government.
