Christ, I can’t bear this....whole country at risk of going to the dogs thanks to a few arrogant twits and a barrage of falsifications and shed loads of propaganda😖. Is it me or are the commercial media just looking forward to the headlines that come with this sort of disaster?! Trying to persuade DH to put half of savings into dollars and half into euros but he thinks I’m catastrophising (despite everything I’ve so far anticipated correctly). FFS!!!!
On a separate note that’s a pretty decent pay package for a 37 hour week!!

Havanananana · 11/10/2018 14:07

The sky is falling....the sky is falling

The job ad is for advisors to work in the department that has the specific responsibility to prepare for, respond to, and recover from civil emergencies of all types.

Emergencies as a result of Brexit - such as:

  • Severe disruption to food and fuel supplies,
  • Severe disruption to supplies of medicines and medical equipment,
  • Severe disruption to healthcare, elderly care and social services,
  • Severe disruption to the transport system,
  • A run on the banks and breakdown of the banking system,
  • Civil unrest and the breakdown of law and order

Just to be clear, I don't want any of these things to happen, but the government seems to have finally woken up the possibility that they could happen. A No Deal Brexit makes it likely that some of these will happen.

M26 night closures for brexit, happening now.

woman11017

The article says the closure is for carriageway repairs? Do you think it's really for something else?

1tisILeClerc · 11/10/2018 14:41

It is probably for strengthening the hard shoulder and enabling the easy alteration of layout so that it could be used as a long lorry park, similar to the M20.
It's appearance now is far too suspicious to be anything other than Brexit related.

Govt preparing for civil unrest....
KennDodd · 11/10/2018 15:10

Can you imagine any political party putting a policy in their manifesto that was going to damage the economy in every scenario they modelled. Oh and may also result in food and medicines shortages and civil unrest, but don't worry, because we'll spend billions on stockpiling to try to mitigate. Who the fuck would vote for that?

bellinisurge · 11/10/2018 15:17

Just come back to this thread . I'm sorry, @AlexaShutUp for not making my sarcasm more obvious. You are quite right to be a bit puzzled.

I'm personally glad that someone in civil service is acting responsibly.

I'd urge anyone who hasn't dipped their toe in to pop over to the Prepper topic. There are some sensible non-drama llama ideas on there from lots of people all over the country.

1tisILeClerc · 11/10/2018 16:24

I would imagine there are quite a few, certainly the more elderly civil servants who are pulling their hair out trying to get some sense out of the toddlers on drugs.

I'd urge anyone who hasn't dipped their toe in to pop over to the Prepper topic. There are some sensible non-drama llama ideas on there from lots of people all over the country.

We could also do with the prepper topic being a little more active. The more people who are prepped, the better off we all are...

BiL, in the UK works for a government agency. I won’t say which one. He has been asked to map locations of 7 potential mass grave sites around the UK.

Do you/does he know what for? (I mean, I know what for – but is it as woman suggests: spring flu, food, medicine and power shortages?)

longwayoff · 11/10/2018 17:58

. . . and UK becomes 52nd state. God Bless America Mr President.

Buteo · 11/10/2018 20:01

TBF the government always have a couple locations for mass graves in the event of a bad flu season. This year he has been told to find more.

I can think of a perfect site in north east Somerset. I’m sure 6 acres would be sufficient?

woman11017 · 11/10/2018 20:07

Probably needs a bit of organic manure on that estate, to loosen the soil up a bit first Buteo. Grin

Buteo · 11/10/2018 20:30

Oh I’m sure there’s plenty of bullshit produced on that estate on a daily basis already woman11017 .

woman11017 · 11/10/2018 21:01

No exact details other than it’s related to Brexit preparations from the COBRA committee

The sky is falling....the sky is falling

The sky might not be falling, but some very dark clouds seem to be gathering today;

12% of GDP and hundreds of thousands of jobs at threat as UK loses non-EU export markets – and threat of huge price hikes on imported goods. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-latest-no-deal-trade-lost-12-per-cent-government-gdp-eu-a8580926.html

Those well-known scaremongers at ‘Which’ think No Deal will be catastrophic for consumers - a view confirmed by the Govt. advice issued later in the day. www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/no-deal-brexit-consumers-face-catastrophic-consequences-which-research-a8580131.html

Problems with vital drugs after Brexit – and the cost to the NHS keeps escalating. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-drugs-medicine-shortages-medication-nhs-final-say-eu-uk-a8579921.html

longwayoff · 12/10/2018 16:30

May not be falling. Is certainly wobbling.

StealthPolarBear · 12/10/2018 18:49

If we're talking about the sky I think there are some very black clouds ahead. But it's OK. In 2070 we'll all be rubbing our hands with glee.

MyCatIsBonkers · 13/10/2018 18:15

We've been through this before. When the romans left they took all their institutions and structures with them. It wasn't that bad. Just 1000 years of civil unrest and chaos.

Blinkingblimey · 13/10/2018 20:42

MyCatIsBonkers I’ve just 😮..... i’ve Used that analogy sooo many times, though never in the context of Brexit...but yep, essentially that’s it😬

IAmAllAsttonishnent · 13/10/2018 21:08

😂 I love how everyone just ignores how difficult, autocratic and outdated the EU had become. How trumped up, unessisary and border line corrupt the whole system was and that they were given ample opportunity to negotiate and essentially laughed in our faces instead.

I’m nervous about leaving but I’m smart enough to know that staying in the EU was not the willy wonka golden ticket people on these threads make it out! 🤔😒 Both ways had serious issues

HollowTalk · 13/10/2018 21:11

It wasn't a golden ticket, but it wasn't the reason why we were having problems in the UK, either. Leaving won't resolve any problems.

Jason118 · 13/10/2018 21:13

Such as?
