Because it's a bit chaotic and mental to my mind!

Yesterday at work a man I've always thought of as intelligent and sensible, if not someone I generally agree with, said "they need us more than we need them". My respect for him has gone, tbh. Whatever your thoughts on Brexit, if at this point you believe it will all be OK on that basis, you are a tit.

I heard the same from a CEO I had hitherto respected. At an event in a city in continental Europe, in a room where the attendees were around 80% continental Europeans. There were quite a few raised eyebrows. The worst thing is not that he may or may not believe it, but that he thought his listeners would be so dim as to swallow it. No respect for the fact that there may be intelligent life in the audience.

LoveInTokyo · 02/08/2018 10:28

I bet he said it in English as well, didn't he? Relying on that 80% of continental Europeans being able to speak English well enough to understand him (but at the same time dim enough to swallow his nonsense).

Melassa · 02/08/2018 11:08

Yes, all in English, but to be fair there were so many nationalities in the room English was the only common language possible.

That said, the only monolinguals in the room were the Brits and most of those were board level. It would be very rare indeed for a continental European working at executive level to have one language only. It would be expected that they had proficiency in at least English, as well as another European language ideally.

I work for a French company in France and everyone speaks English. Everyone. And most people have a third language as well.

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 11:12

In their own languages, in their heads, they were probably saying "fuck you, idiot".

RedToothBrush · 02/08/2018 14:54

Yes it panning out as I expected.

Its rather depressingly predictable tbh.

PestymcPestFace · 02/08/2018 15:02

And now we have "Blind Brexit".........

Gove likes it, so it has to be bad. I should read up and then decide.

Yaralie · 02/08/2018 15:23

I expected it to be bad, possibly very bad, but not as catastrophic as it looks now.

...but we are getting back our very own uk border entry queues at airports and ports, apparently May wants us all to see the very tangible benefits of Brexit.
Of course we ll be waiting in the non EU queues at Palma Malaga etc etc too, so a double win win!
With these sorts of benefits to brexit, i think i made mistake, i'll def vote leave in any 2nd referendum.

That’s funny, because at Charles de Gaulle Airport I’m sure there are separate border entry queues for French passport holders, EEA/CH passport holders and all other passport holders, because I have previously not been able to use the same queue as my French passport holder husband.

Someone should tell Theresa May she could have done that anyway. (Unless France has left the EU and no one has noticed.)

Blind Brexit sounds like the ultimate fudge!! BINO but we'll pretend that we can't see it's BINO. Pah.

PestymcPestFace · 02/08/2018 20:41

Blind Brexit / NDA Brexit all we have to do is blame someone else.

Ta1kinpeace · 02/08/2018 21:47

I get my own queue when I fly into JFK
Customs officers are still bastards though
be careful what you wish for Grin
