You know what, i'll be honest here.
I'll be quite happy to look a twat in my bean tin fort come April next year.
But no one can currently guarantee that for me.
With that in mind, and given the government's plan to outsource stockpiling to the private sector, who have already said it's just not viable, if there does turn out to be a problem, I can't take that risk.
I have a 3 year old.
I can do certain things to reduce risk for my family, so i'll build a bean fort. And hope I don't need it.
Besides which if I stockpile now, if we do have an issue it helps others who can't by reducing demand at the crisis point.
I don't think we'll be any the wiser as to how this will go before late Dec. At the earliest.
I view the whole thing, not dissimilar to people who shop for Christmas throughout the whole year.
Some people don't do that and buy everything on Christmas Eve. The stress of that I find unmanageable and not particularly effective in buying good gifts. I don't buy through the year. I usually start in mid Aug and finish up by mid November. In part to avoid problems with deliveries turning up too late. Thus spreading the cost and stress.
That's just my general world view, and to expect me to act differently over Brexit is like asking me to change my personality.
I want to keep sane whilst offsetting the worst outcome.
Others will have more serious concerns over medication and will want to plan accordingly.
Not everyone can afford blind faith and to ignore the possibility of risk.
Attacking people for looking at a situation and trying to plan for all possible scenarios is just nasty.
We don't shout at people who take out holiday insurance. If you don't have it, and need it, then the consequences can be pretty dire.
This is the same thing.
I wouldn't drive without insurance, I wouldn't travel without insurance, I wouldn't have no house insurance.
I bloody begrudge paying it, and you rarely need it, but you are buying peace of mind. And im all for that.
PS My Bean Fort is going to be magnificent. I will keep it with a sense of humour. And maybe get a flag for it.
