Should Remainers be prosecuted for Treason, one MEP thinks so

It is one thing for anonymous Twitter trolls to come out with statements like this. but this was an elected MEP, who we assume refuses to accept payment from the EU

Conservative MEP David Campbell Bannerman compared remainers to Jihadists on a now-deleted Tweet

“That means extreme jihadis. It also means those in future actively working undemocratically against U.K. through extreme EU loyalty.”

I am old enough to remember the good old days when the conservatives where pro-free speech and pro-business.

So how long would the best part of 30 million 'treason' cases take to get through court? Would judges who voted remain have to try themselves?

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/07/2018 14:30

That is properly fabulous. I'm finally an enemy of the state again. CND and Greenpeace in my youth and now extreme EU loyalty. Grin

HirplesWithHaggis · 25/07/2018 14:38

Do Yes voting Scots get hanged, drawn and quartered then?

PineappleSunrise · 25/07/2018 14:40

So police budgets have been slashed to the bone over the past 10 years, but now in addition to any counter-terrorism, organised crime and or sex offender monitoring needed they will also have to keep a stern eye on 16 million voting adults in addition for the terrible crime of being "pro-EU."

Slow handclaps.

Cornishclio · 25/07/2018 14:41

How ridiculous. How does loyalty towards the EU mean enemies of the UK. UK is still in Europe and were it not for a tiny minority of the population who voted leave over remain we would still be in the EU next year. Some narrow minded people around.

SoloD · 25/07/2018 14:46

These are the sort of people who are meant to be organising our exit from the EU. I think this illustrates their grip (or rather lack of) on reality.

Which is truly scary.

Boris saying F**k business
IDS saying we can ban EU aircraft from overflying the UK
Davis Saying WTO rules will be just fine

He wants to use the same treason law against Remainers as to be used against Islamic jihadi terrorists who plant bombs and behead people Hmm

If treason is believing some thing different to what the government wants
then after every GE the winning side can lock up their opponents
Nice …

ShovingLeopard · 25/07/2018 15:10

Surely somebody who is clearly as mad as a box of frogs cannot meet the sanity requirement for being an elected representative? We do still have that criterion, right....?

DGRossetti · 25/07/2018 15:35

What would Gandhi have said ?

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

SacrebleuLondres · 26/07/2018 12:34

I texted and called Bannerman to hand myself in. No response.

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 13:56

That's the thing about democracy.

People can elect absolute throbbers if they want to.

Confused

Here's his mobile. Whatever you do don't call or text like I did. +44 7796 235237

Dottierichardson · 26/07/2018 14:23

OP all I can say is the man's blinkered and obviously desperate for attention, no wonder relations with the EU are so difficult when we have people like this as representatives.

TheElementsSong · 26/07/2018 14:25

Just in case anyone is wondering who and what this is about.

Should Remainers be prosecuted for Treason, one MEP thinks so

The slow slide towards authoritarianism continues Sad
