May has officially demoted Raab and the Brexit Department to just being responsible for practical implimentation in the UK and not negogitions.

This shouldn't be a surprise, its been the case in reality for some time, much to David Davis annoyance.

The official government position now seems to be scare the shit out of everyone about the possibility of No Deal in order to force the EU to make a deal. Jeremy Hunt has been dutifully spelling this out, by talking about an 'accidental' Brexit.

The government are already outsourcing responsibility for this potential eventuality to industy and business by telling them they need to stockpile food in order to keep supply lines going. This WILL mean price rises will start to happen soon. It also means there is no coordinated government plan and if businesses can't afford to do this as its heavily dependant on having sufficient cash flow in reserve to be able to do it, or don't want to, then you, me and everyone else is going to be well and truly on their own. Whilst the public are not being told to stockpile, its hard to justify not doing so, if this is the current government line.

The government has also done a u-turn on when the repeal of the European Communities Act will come into force. They fought hard to have it fixed for 29th March 2019. Thats now been rolled back to Dec 2020. This is fine, but in practice, makes no difference what so ever if we have no deal or the EU refuse to honour a transition deal on the terms the UK want. The ERG will also go nuts at it and try to get May to roll back on it.

Raab has also made a point of saying that if we don't have a deal by October (rather than midnight 29th March 2019) we are going into No Deal land by default.

Parliament has now broken up for the summer, with May surviving, so things are likely to be a little quieter for a few weeks, but come September this is all going to blow up with avengance.

If you think the last few weeks have been a rollercoaster, just wait for the Autumn.

The above tweet was liked by Margot Parker.

Who is Margot Parker? Why she's a UKIP MEP for the East Midlands and Deputy Chair of the Party.

And we wonder why we ended up here.

Matt Chorley @ mattchorley
It's take Corbyn EIGHT YEARS to apologise and recognise that it might not have been OK to host an event where the main talk was called: The Misuse of the Holocaust for Political Purposes

Anna Soubry @ annasoubrymp
Equally it’s taken 8 years for this public event to be exposed despite 2 leadership contests and 1 General Election. .. speaks volumes about the state of British politics

Anna says it all best tbh.

^Jeremy Corbyn's Anti-Semitism Crisis Escalates Dramatically As Labour
An interview in which Corbyn blames an Islamist attack on the 'hand of Israel' has been raised^

Is this the Labour Party moving against Corbyn? Or the conservatives trying to defend their position.

Or is it much worse than that? This is just the calibre of politicians we have now?

I don’t see why the Tories would want to get rid of him - he’s become a disaster for Labour. Although I understand why they’d want to smear him.

Peregrina · 01/08/2018 08:39

They are in the G7, I have just looked it up. But hey, why let facts get in the way?

As for the Labour anti-semitism row. I am not yet convinced they are worse than the Tories. That doesn't make it right, but I notice the anti-semitism issue and Labour always bobs up when Brexit is going badly. Still, if they get rid of Corbyn, it ought to be a bonus. I say ought because getting rid of Cameron should have been a bonus, but then we got May. Corbyn could then concentrate on doing what he's best at - getting the vote out at elections.

Re the tweet , I thought they were in the G7 , Canada , US and Japan ??? Please tell me someone has corrected him ?

frumpety yes, many corrected him so he then claimed of course he knew that (complete with LOL) and that he was actually talking about the EU. Erm... in a direct reply to a tweet about the G7 Hmm

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 01/08/2018 09:24

Of course, surely he must really know they’re in the G7, and must also have known many people would jump in to correct him. I’m guessing he just feels confident enough to it knowing when all the ‘they are in the G7 you idiot’ tweets role in all his admirers will just think ‘oh yeah, more Remoaner Fake News’

checks to see if RedToothBrush has any free space on that wall...

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 01/08/2018 09:25

Sorry to do it

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 01/08/2018 09:26

Not ‘sorry to do it’ - oh, you know what I meant. goes to lie down in darkening room (good dry run for power cuts...)

RedToothBrush · 01/08/2018 09:28

I agree. It feels uncomfortable because I know this and its a deliberate manipulation and hell the Tories have some race relations issues, but still.

This is worrying:

yougov.co.uk/news/2018/08/01/where-most-fertile-ground-new-party/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=website_article&utm_campaign=new_party
Where is the most fertile ground for a new party?

A new YouGov survey examines which of their political views the public feels the main parties don’t represent them on

A better measure is to combine the proportion of people who feel unrepresented in a certain view with the proportion of people who hold that view overall to see which unrepresented views are held by the largest proportion of people.

and

The data also shows that Leave voters are more likely than Remain voters across the board to feel unrepresented in their views. Likewise, those who voted Conservative in 2017 are more likely than Labour and Liberal Democrat voters to feel that none of the main political parties represent their views.

and

This presents a particular opportunity for any new party that would be looking to occupy a space in the political landscape that would appeal to Leave voters – whilst Leave voters flocked to the Conservatives in 2017 due to their status as the party of Brexit, once Britain has left the EU those Leave voters who don’t feel represented by any of the main parties will be up for grabs.

Under this measure one political belief stands out above the rest – that the justice system is not harsh enough. Two thirds of Britons hold this view (64%), of whom 38% believe none of the main parties share their view on the matter. Combining these two figures shows that almost a quarter of the population (24%) hold this view and feel unrepresented in doing so.

‘He’ll P*ss Off And Leave Us With Nothing’: How Universal Credit Enables Abuse
'This is not the 1950s,' MPs say.

Conservative MP Heidi Allen said that one of Universal Credit’s selling points was its support of individuals. But, she added, this advantage was being undone by single payments for joint claims.

She said: “In the 21st century women deserve to be treated as independent citizens, with their own aspirations, responsibilities and challenges.

“Good government develops solutions that are dynamic and responsive to the individual as well as offering value for the tax payer, so I urge the DWP to show what I know to be true - that it can deliver both.”

Committee chair Frank Field said: “This is not the 1950s. Men and women work independently, pay taxes as individuals, and should each have an independent income.

“Not only does UC’s single household payment bear no relation to the world of work, it is out of step with modern life and turns back the clock on decades of hard won equality for women.”

The Labour MP said the government should “acknowledge the increased risk of harm to claimants living with domestic abuse” and take the necessary steps to avoid it.

You thought austerity over? Philip Hammond orders non protected Whitehall depts to plan for cuts to budgets 2020 onwards.

Secretaries of State received a letter from Liz Truss suggesting they start looking for savings last week

Philip Hammond orders Whitehall to plan for more cuts

Philip Hammond has told Whitehall to plan for another round of cuts before next year’s spending review, putting him on a collision course with some cabinet colleagues who want tax rises instead of austerity.

The chancellor wants ministries without protected budgets, including public health, further education, local government and transport, to work with the Treasury in the summer to identify potential areas for savings.

The article mother linked to is why my parents won't vote SNP and I can't cos of living in England. The failure of Labour to define what they actually want/plan to do about Brexit rules them out as an option for all 3 of us. The inability of the Lib Dems to turn up for an absolutely crucial vote which could have toppled the government kinda rules them out as an option too. The Tories seem determined to destroy the economy and the country so even if I was a gut instinct Leaver I'd be having second thoughts. Who the fuck is there to vote for??

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 01/08/2018 10:14

I'm not a fan of Owen Jones, but this is what I usually think when the brexit badly/JC antisemitism stuff raises its head concurrently:

@OwenJones84
Anti-Semitism exists on a fringe on the left, and there are those who crassly denies it exists.

Anti-Semitism is being used by the left’s opponents to smear Jeremy Corbyn and Labour.

There is no contradiction between these two statements. Both are true.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/aug/01/hostile-environment-immigrants-crept-into-schools-hospitals-homes-border-guards

The effect of TM hostile environment which made schools, universities, the NHS, landlords immigration officer de facto.

As an eu citizen, this frightens me because they are very likely to do the same thing with EU citizens from March 19. With all the ensuing problems because the reality is that individuals just do not know what is and isn’t actually legal. (See the previous story about a woman not allowed to board a plane to LEAVE the U.K. on the grounds she was here illegally. Despite a perfectly valid Indefinite leave to remain visa in said passport....)
I actually really wish we all had ID cards and proper paper documentation to show you can legallynstay in the uk (which EU citizens won’t have as everything is electronic Hmm)

Also a nice Orwellian sign of things to come??

SusanWalker · 01/08/2018 10:53

I heard on a podcast I think, that people who voted leave believed the muslim percentage of the population was significantly higher than it actually is. Remainers also guessed too high but not as high as leavers. I can't remember the figures offhand but I think that goes in nicely with the other stats.
