We have a weak PM, albeit a woman, who is clinging on for dear life to control of her party. We have no Opposition. Corbyn, who has his own pathetic Trotskyist agenda, is doing nothing when he could seize the moment and turn the tide against Brexit. We do have some opposing forces in the form of the Lib Dem’s, but they don’t seem strong enough to effect change despite trying hard. What we need is someone like Tony Blair, an experienced politician and who has the clout to put forward an argument convincing enough to stir people into action and rid us of the half-baked lot on both sides. We also need someone who is truthful and can inspire confidence. What about the Iraq war? Tony Blair is a big enough Politician to have admitted his mistakes on Iraq and acknowledged he could have done things differently. Come Back Tony, the U.K. desperately needs you!

Time for David Miliband to come home and run a credible Labour Party

DrDreReturns · 11/07/2018 17:47

Never mind Blair, I'd be happy with John Major!!

Oblomov18 · 11/07/2018 17:49

I can't think that Blair is ok. May is bad, but Blair? Really?

sonlypuppyfat · 11/07/2018 18:07

I really can't see this enrichment that a load of illegal car washers have bought us. You can't move for the aggressive louts around here

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/07/2018 18:17

You can't move for the aggressive louts around here

Just wait till the pubs kick out after the football tonight. They can't all be foreign car washers.

"I really can't see this enrichment that a load of illegal car washers have bought us"

So then you are complaining about EU immigration then are you.

Or are you conflating illegal immigration with EU immigration?

topcat1980 · 12/07/2018 09:37

Do you know what?
The immigration thing has been going on since the 50's, the same arguments, the same erroneous statements made over and over.

It was crap in the 50's, its crap now, the language used is hyperbolic rubbish and those people who say they have concerns, are simply using that term to hide their bigotry.

PineappleSunrise · 12/07/2018 09:42

An significant proportion of the people working at car washes are illegal immigrants smuggled into the country by British organised crime and kept in modern slavery conditions.

They have nothing to do with EU doctors, nurses, builders, software engineers, plumbers, lawyers, cooks, etc that leaving the EU will affect.

DarlingNikita · 12/07/2018 13:27

Whatever you think of Blair and his underestimate of immigration nubmers when some eastern European countries joined the EU, governments since – and certain section of the press, of course – have used the erroneous argument that we can't control immigration to stoke anti-EU feeling and zenophobia. Which has worked a treat.

Toysintheattic29 · 12/07/2018 14:32

Thank you Topcat1980 for wiping the floor with some very ignorant and xenophobic tossers. I couldn’t have argued better myself Star

Easy to call people xenophobic who have very real concerns, my parents never grew up in a multicultural society and neither did I , but now I'm told this is a wonderful thing , I've yet to see it myself

prettybird · 12/07/2018 16:59

I live in a multicultural area: ds' old (catchment) primary school consists of 60% ethnic minorities, the closer primary (strange dog's leg in the catchment Confused) is 98% EAL (English as an Additional Language) Shock Used to be mostly Urdu, but now Polish, Russian, Arabic, Slovakian in the mix too.

His secondary school is also highly multi-cultural. There are apparently 55 languages spoken within the pupil cohort. According to the British Council, it is one of the (if not the? ) most international school in the UK. It is proud of its diversity.

Yet we voted over 70% to Remain Smile

Not everywhere is xenophobic. I love where I live. I love the way my city is welcoming to other ethnicities. I love the way that ds understands other religions and other countries, due to the friends he's made at school and in his sport. I'm sure that contributed to his wanting to study International Relations at Uni Smile

But in terms of the OP, YABU Wink

Toysintheattic29 · 12/07/2018 17:17

No Prettybird, I wasn’t referring to everyone that contributed to this thread - just the one or two responded to by Topcat. It’s great you like where you live, you are lucky. I live in a Little Englander community where people at the end of my small cul de sac, put up huge boards during the Brexit campaign, announcing they wanted their “country back” (from whom I have no idea) and inviting people to vote for that crowd of loonies the UKIP party. If anyone feels an alien in their own village it’s me. Celebrate the diversity of your neighbourhood and enjoy having multicultural friends.

No! I was a Police Officer under Blair’s government and in my area of SouthEast London we lost 3 Police stations due to cuts. Regular Officer number reduced but PCSOs (then with no power) were introduced to raise figures. Don’t think it’s ever recovered as cuts have continued so it’s got worse.

prettybird · 12/07/2018 17:58

I wasn't meaning you Toysintheattic - I was just pointing out that there wasn't a direct corollary between areas of high immigration and xenophobia. It's always worth repeating Smile

Indeed, as others have pointed out (on this and other similar threads), many of the areas that voted most strongly Leave don't actually have many immigrants - just problems the fault of our government with inadequate resources that they blame on immigrants ( and no, the immigrants aren't the reason we are suffering "austerity" - studies have demonstrated that the EU immigrants are net contributors) Confused

I'm sorry you live in a little Englander community. Come on up to Scotland! Grin

Colbu24 · 12/07/2018 18:21

I do worry when someone thinks TB would be welcome back in power.
One of the worse PM's in history with blood in his hands.

Limpopobongo · 12/07/2018 18:32

I do not believe we have a weak PM. I think we have a strong PM who has steered the ship through very troubled waters and kept a firm hand on the tiller.

Tony Blair? oh please,, champagne socialist, coward and war criminal. He should be in the dock at the Old Bailey.

Singlenotsingle · 12/07/2018 18:36

Totally unreasonable. Slimy, slippery creepy bastard. Guilty of war crimes - remember the non existent WMDs? Don't like Corby, or May? We're stuffed, aren't we?

Toysintheattic29 · 12/07/2018 19:30

Yes, well and truly stuffed - there’s not a decent politician out there at the moment, other than what is left of New Labour such as Yvette Cooper or Ed Balls. Yes Prettybird, I’d love to move to Scotland - I’m half-Scots anyway!

I agree with some of the things that TB says, especially about brexit, but I wish he wouldn't say them. He should keep a low profile.

I am old enough to remember 1997 when he was swept into office. I never trusted him as far as I could throw him. He always seemed to exude insincerity. I know he was very popular but that time has long gone.

He was wrong to take the UK into the Iraq war and he and his wife used his time in office to cultivate some very dubious friendships and to accumulate personal wealth.

Having TB on our side would not help.
