Westministenders: High Drama at The Ok Coral

3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 1881, Tombstone, Arizona.

After months of death threats from the Cowboy Billys, their long simmering feud with the law thing came to a head. The Earp Brothers and Doc Holliday faced the criminals down in a shootout.

Tomorrow's 'sleepover' is starting to feel like the Gunfight at the OK Coral.

The outcome of the real story was three of the outlaws were killed. Another two claimed they were unarmed and ran from the fight. Virgil, Morgan, and Doc Holliday were wounded, but Wyatt Earp was unharmed.

How many Brexiteers can we expect to roll over and resign from the Cabinet and how many will surrender to May and the Pro-Business lobby? ONly time will tell.

Please place your bets for the number of resignations and the number of 'I support the PM' comments.

But don't get too excited. The showdown wasn't the end of the matter.

One of the outlaws who legged it, filed murder charges against the Earps and Doc Holliday. It took them some time for them to be acquitted.

Then Virgil Earp was ambushed and disabled in the arm later that year in December and Morgan Earp was assassinated in March 1882. Wyatt Earp, then thinking he had no other option, went on a personal vendetta to kill the outlaws and then fled the state.

Given the Tory Cabinet and the perchant for stabbing each other in the back and settling personal scores, a repeat of a wild west gun fight, really doesn't sound too wildly off the cards now does it?

Buckle up. Its time to play at Chequers.

England stand a realistic chance of beating Croatia but would need a large dollop of good luck to win against either France or Belgium.

I love football and have been following the world cup with great interest, but this may possibly be even better.

Lucy Fisher @LOS_Fisher
The lesson of past Tory leadership coups is that they go very slowly... until they go very quickly.

In 2003, IDS finally dared grumbling critics to back him or challenge him. He was out within 72 hours.

In 1990, Margaret Thatcher left No 10 just 14 days after challenge mounted.

If I’m a troll then that must mean there are in the order of 17 million trolls in this country

Or perhaps you don’t deal well with the mainstream view

DGRossetti · 09/07/2018 17:33

where's those trollbots now ?

Brexiteers are being slaughtered on the various (non-political) fora I dabble on.

SusanWalker · 09/07/2018 17:33

There are two mainstream views Heyduggeesflipflop. The country is divided pretty much 50/50. Although the graphic i posted earlier of a survey done by Europe Elects seems to show a swing to remain. So don't try to make out we are some kind of minority. If we were you wouldn't be so rattled.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/07/2018 17:36

I think hey is actually more concerned with the demise of the Tories rather than Brexit being fudged. Tells its own story really.

GingerPCatt · 09/07/2018 17:37

17 million in 66,582,597* is not the majority. Of course that figure includes children, but still a hell of a lot more than 17 million.

TheElementsSong · 09/07/2018 17:39

Leavers rattled? Surely not, we're regularly assured that they foresaw every event, and understood everything about Brexit, and are delighted with every piece of Brexit news (because there is no such thing as bad Brexit news)?

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2018 17:42

Alex Partridge @alexpartridge87
Not many in for Sajid Javid's statement on the Amesbury poisoning

It is generally considered inadvisable to give nourishment to under-bridge-dwelling fairytale creatures...

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2018 17:44

Beth Rigby @BethRigby
@christopherhope. Confidence vote? She’ll stay if gets simple majority (which I think she would) and then no more vote for 12 months. So Breixteers must ask themselves, should they keep powder dry for the crunch Brussels negotiations?

And of the Leavers some wanted more money for the NHS, some wanted to give two fingers to Cameron, some wanted an end to austerity, some believed Hannan and Farage who extolled the position of Norway until they discovered that involved Freedom of Movement. I don't know how many actively voted to lose their jobs - perhaps the older Nissan workers did, expecting a nice redundancy package. So it was perhaps 4 million who wanted to smash the economy because they hated the EU so much .You know the ones who were so clued up about it that they had to google for 'What's the EU'? the day after the vote.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/07/2018 17:46

DG They ae going after (suspected) Remainers & experts:

olenna linked to the Torygraph call for Ollie Robbins' scalp.
Negotiations would be hopeless if he goes - Barnier would probably give up, if he loses his only intelligent negotiating partner

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/07/2018 17:50

Remarkable how everyone seems to have lost interest in the poisoning issue.

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/07/2018 17:51

a troll is a person that goes onto discussion boards to deliberately derail and/ or wind up the people there. It is not a person who happened to vote stupidly in one referendum two years ago. You're not a troll because you voted leave. You're a troll because you are trolling this board.

Maybe your arguments aren't undermining your intelligence - maybe I was being too kind, there. Maybe this really is your level. How sad.

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2018 17:52

The minister for No Deal:

Seema Malhotra @SeemaMalhotra1
Chris Heaton-Harris is the MP who wrote to all Vice-Chancellors of every university wanting the names of all lecturers who taught on Brexit and copies of their material.

No I hadn't. Is it possible to think about more than one thing at a time?

Ladbrokes have Jeremy Hunt as the 15/8 favourite for next Foreign Sec, followed by Gove at 9/4, David Lidington at 9/1 and Liam Fox at 5/1... Aka they have no idea either...

Not easily!

If the Tories have a confidence vote on May's leadship,
the ERG only have 60 MPs,

but Remainers & soft (Norway+) Leavers might want her out too
because even this Chequers deal is still just cherry-picking, re-polishing the same old turd

Of course,
winning a vote by 52 / 48% would mean May would have to resign, because 52% does not give enough authority to act !

Heyduggeesflipflop · 09/07/2018 18:04

Bigchoc

That’s right compare oranges (tory leadership ballot rules) against pears (a binary result referendum)

After all, what’s a bit more revisionism after 2 years of our ruling elite fighting the result.
