Westministenders: High Drama at The Ok Coral

3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 1881, Tombstone, Arizona.

After months of death threats from the Cowboy Billys, their long simmering feud with the law thing came to a head. The Earp Brothers and Doc Holliday faced the criminals down in a shootout.

Tomorrow's 'sleepover' is starting to feel like the Gunfight at the OK Coral.

The outcome of the real story was three of the outlaws were killed. Another two claimed they were unarmed and ran from the fight. Virgil, Morgan, and Doc Holliday were wounded, but Wyatt Earp was unharmed.

How many Brexiteers can we expect to roll over and resign from the Cabinet and how many will surrender to May and the Pro-Business lobby? ONly time will tell.

Please place your bets for the number of resignations and the number of 'I support the PM' comments.

But don't get too excited. The showdown wasn't the end of the matter.

One of the outlaws who legged it, filed murder charges against the Earps and Doc Holliday. It took them some time for them to be acquitted.

Then Virgil Earp was ambushed and disabled in the arm later that year in December and Morgan Earp was assassinated in March 1882. Wyatt Earp, then thinking he had no other option, went on a personal vendetta to kill the outlaws and then fled the state.

Given the Tory Cabinet and the perchant for stabbing each other in the back and settling personal scores, a repeat of a wild west gun fight, really doesn't sound too wildly off the cards now does it?

Buckle up. Its time to play at Chequers.

Michael Gove tipping Michael Gove to be foreign secretary

Why not? It worked for Gavin Williamson!

David Cameron @David_Cameron
Britain faces a simple and inescapable choice - stability and strong Government with me, or chaos with Ed Miliband
11:26 PM - 3 May 2015

Remember the good old days?

This summer is the one you'll remember as the last good one before everything went to shit.

We've seen a house today, and dropped the asking price on ours. I feel kinda sick.

Robert Peston @Peston
I am told Downing Street "spiked" @BorisJohnson - that is they announced he was quitting BEFORE he actually finished writing his resignation letter. This is getting very brutal

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/07/2018 15:32

None of this shit would have come to pass if Milliband had won in 2015. People too easily seduced by tabloids. "Red Ed"they cried - project fear. Politics was supposedly sane back then.

Sam Coates Times @SamCoatesTimes
One brexiteer suggests, politely, that Michael Gove “hasn’t played his cards well” and “it’s all about his leadership ambitions which I think are misjudged”

Other soundings suggest there will be a hardcore ERG faction dedicated to making sure Gove never rises to the top

Significance of that tweet: note there is not a hint of the possibility of a leadership contest. Instead that sounds like a certainity of a contest.

Politicians come and go but the problems they have created for people remain. I can only regret that the idea of #Brexit has not left with Davis and Johnson. But...who knows?

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 09/07/2018 15:34

Oh ffs
Go on the school run and the second of the three dunces goes.
What's the money of disgraced former defence secretary and werrity sniffer Fox completing the job?

54321go · 09/07/2018 15:35

With a combination of Monty Python, and Agatha Christie I think the Brexit reports are just about covered.

Kevin Maguire @Kevin_Maguire
Boris Johnson was a serial lIar and incompetent Foreign Secretary, a turd polisher flushed out by David Davis quitting. He couldn’t even resign with dignity, following rather than leading

Please let that be his political epitaph.
(it won't be).

What's the betting on the cancellation of A50 during the footie on Sunday?

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2018 15:40

Nicholas Watt @nicholaswatt
So four #brexit cabinet ministers who attended Chequers meeting are on frontbench for @theresa_may statement: @LiamFox @andrealeadsom @PennyMordaunt Chris Grayling. So there for the mo

Fox, Leadsom and Grayling ALL know that they are unlikely to get another Cabinet position under another PM on merit.

They might resign if a potential leadership candidate made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

All three are a waste of space. Are any leadership candidates THAT desparate to be PM?

The public voted for Brexit; it’s narrow but clear. We need to put this back to the public. I do not feel we have the informed consent of the public to push #Brexit through. I don’t believe the public were fully cognisant of the intricacies of Brexit when they voted. #SuspendA50

Kit Malthouse (WHO?!) takes over from Raab as the Housing Minister. The 8th in 8 years. Housing being the biggest domestic issue in young people.

Chris Heaton-Harris takes over from Steve Baker at the Brexit Department. (Minister for No Deal?)

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2018 15:58

54321go its too soon to revoke article50. Got to let it run for a few more months. Need more chaos first.

Sunday would be a good day to bury news - we'll either be in the final, or recovering from the 3rd place play off.

IF we win the World Cup, we also will have the England Team Victory celebration. May would be wise to make it a national tour over several days at this rate!

OP posts:
Icantreachthepretzels · 09/07/2018 15:58

Our next match is Wednesday - and depending on that Saturday or Sunday. But announcing anything on the Saturday would be pointless - as, if we're playing then, it means we're not in the final. I know I've been saying this since the group stage but ... we're not going to win the next match.

However, the slough of despond that England sinks into following Wednesday's match may be every bit as good for burying news as the Euphoria following a win. England's out of the world cup... who the hell cares about article 50... article 52 years of hurt is what matters!
