Westministenders: High Drama at The Ok Coral

3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 1881, Tombstone, Arizona.

After months of death threats from the Cowboy Billys, their long simmering feud with the law thing came to a head. The Earp Brothers and Doc Holliday faced the criminals down in a shootout.

Tomorrow's 'sleepover' is starting to feel like the Gunfight at the OK Coral.

The outcome of the real story was three of the outlaws were killed. Another two claimed they were unarmed and ran from the fight. Virgil, Morgan, and Doc Holliday were wounded, but Wyatt Earp was unharmed.

How many Brexiteers can we expect to roll over and resign from the Cabinet and how many will surrender to May and the Pro-Business lobby? ONly time will tell.

Please place your bets for the number of resignations and the number of 'I support the PM' comments.

But don't get too excited. The showdown wasn't the end of the matter.

One of the outlaws who legged it, filed murder charges against the Earps and Doc Holliday. It took them some time for them to be acquitted.

Then Virgil Earp was ambushed and disabled in the arm later that year in December and Morgan Earp was assassinated in March 1882. Wyatt Earp, then thinking he had no other option, went on a personal vendetta to kill the outlaws and then fled the state.

Given the Tory Cabinet and the perchant for stabbing each other in the back and settling personal scores, a repeat of a wild west gun fight, really doesn't sound too wildly off the cards now does it?

Buckle up. Its time to play at Chequers.

Boris Johnson has just resigned!

GaspodeWonderCat · 09/07/2018 15:03

Boris has resigned ... who/what next?

woman11017 · 09/07/2018 15:03

yes tin

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2018 15:03

Tom Newton Dunn @tnewtondunn
Small Govt U-turn: Gavin Barwell has pulled out of giving a briefing to Labour MPs on Chequers deal. Tory MPs were furious about it.

There is also talk that David Lidington will still be doing it.

Why would Barwell pull out then...

Jim Pickard @PickardJE
I asked Number 10 lobby meeting this morning if May had spoken to Boris in the last 24 hours: "No."

Now he's incommunicado in his official residence with his closest advisers, which is prompting more than a little speculation....

Pippa Crerar @PippaCrerar
Boris Johnson is currently holed up in his official residence with his closest advisors. As a Boris watcher of many years standing, have to say it's looking ominous.

Laura Kuenssberg @bbclaurak
Apparently Johnson’s drivers have been told three times he’s going to leave to go to work then he hasn’t -

and at the Western Balkans Summit...
Michael Roth MdB @MiRo_SPD
We’re still waiting for our host... #WBLondonSummit

May is due to give an address to the Parliamentary Party hosted by Graham Brady at 5.30pm today.

Johnson will resign immediately before then I guess. For maximum impact. Whilst shamefully leaving people the UK is supposed to be hosting hanging in the process.

What time do we think? 4.30pm - 5.00pm?

Gosh. Mr Trump is gonna love this...

Should have added Shock not for johnson going, but how accurate some predictions have been. I feel sick.

TinCanAlleyCat · 09/07/2018 15:06

Wonder who will be next.

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/07/2018 15:08

This is just ... I mean it's all kicking off now. I think any attempt to try and work out what/ who will be next/ what the ramifications are/ whether the U.K will still exist by the end of the week or if we will simply go up in a puff a smoke/ slide beneath the waves and become the new Atlantis (How sad for the England team - to no longer have a home to bring the world cup home to Wink) is just impossible. I feel at the moment that almost anything could happen... and it will probably be an outcome no one thought of... I mean, two years ago - no one was predicting this

DGRossetti · 09/07/2018 15:09

Downfall ...

The rats abandoning the sinking Brexit ship …
so they can claim after the disaster that they would have done it better

Who is next ?
May ?
Could be why she's invited the other parties to a meet - looking for some unwary sucker to take over.

Shock All the toys out of all the prams.

OlennasWimple · 09/07/2018 15:14

May is in a pickle: she can't call another snap election (no time before recess, she did it once and it didn't work out for her and no sign that it will be a better outcome this time round, even with the Jules Rimet trophy in our possession). She can't carry on like this - everyone can see that both day to day governance and the crisis management (which is what Brexit is) is falling apart. She can't resign - who would take over?

Meanwhile, I'm aghast at how little coverage is being given to the murder of a Brit cit on British soil by foreign agents Shock Angry

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2018 15:15

Wonder who will be next.

Well you have to start speculated that it will be May. But I think it unwise to do so. Yet.

She has said she will cling on until the bitter end. I expect her to do exactly that. Beyond the point that you think she will. She is a creature of habit.

But give me more popcorn and we shall see what happens. She could surprise me yet and go at 5.30pm.

I would be surprised at any other Cabinet ministers going though. Maybe junior ministers, but not cabinet. Gove and Raab seem to be hanging in there for someone else to pull the 1922 trigger. Fox is just a spineless lazy muppet, who knows he won't get a better gig under anyone else.

May seems to have planned and half expected Davis and Johnson to go on Friday. They didn't as they couldn't do it straight to her face. Which isn't that much of a shocker. So if thats the case, you'd think she intends to try and ride it out.

I would watch Graham Brady now though. I think the letters could be in though.

Fireworks at 5.30pm.

Watch out, the Brexit white paper needs to be handed in on Thursday. Donnie is coming on Thursday, to help write it himself...

Nominations for Foreign Sec?

Traditionally it's a role given to the sort of person that the PM wants to keep placated but too busy to cause trouble.... Gove.....? (Though surely he would use this as his excuse to muscle in on Brexit stuff)

MyNameDefinatelyIsntJanet · 09/07/2018 15:20

Smog?

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2018 15:20

Jennifer Rankin @JenniferMerode

Western Balkans summit is part of 'Berlin process'.

Region is big strategic priority for Germany. Boris no-show would be (another) disaster for British diplomacy.

David Henig @DavidHenigUK
UK diplomatic importance diminishing in real time

BTW the Western Balkans stuff is IMPORTANT. There is a lot of shit going down there which revives a lot of the problems from the early 1990s. I have been worried for some time. The UK taking the eye off the ball on it, is really unhelpful. Russia is doing some serious shit stirring. A couple of years ago, popular sentiment in Serbia was split roughly 50:50. Now its tipped back to pro-Russia by some margin. Plus you have a lot of refugees going through the area and Turkey stirring up stuff and Bosnia Muslims being stirred up with regard to Syria. Its a shit storm waiting to happen, if the spark hits the tinder box.

steve hawkes @steve_hawkes
Michael Gove has 10 mins to decide if he wants to save the Govt or bury it

Gove won't want to be the one putting the final knife in. He'll want others to do the dirty work this time.

I'd be surprised if he did anything but quietly just watch the shit hit the fan on its own. I'm guessing he'd feel like he doesn't need to do anything.

OP posts:
MyNameDefinatelyIsntJanet · 09/07/2018 15:25

I don't think she'll resign. Ever. They'll need to drag her out of that job with her toes curled up.

I think it's more likely we'll end up with Gove as foreign sec... a terrifying thought.

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2018 15:25

Peter Foster @pmdfoster
Senior dip texts from Balkans Summit to say how "well it's all going" :)

It's like Britain is this once-stable family now having this terrible, wrenching family row...with the doors open, and the entire street is listening as the crockery hits the wall. #Brexit
