RedToothBrush · 22/12/2017 14:57

Yay for the blue passports.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all

May next year bring us £350 million for the NHS, cake, unicorns, financial passporting, access to the single market, Irish love and of course control to the people.

(Apologies been up to my eyeballs. Normal service will resume after Christmas).

Government admits 'losing' thousands of papers from National Archives

Documents on the Falklands, Northern Ireland’s Troubles, and the infamous Zinoviev letter among those ‘misplaced’, leaving historians suspicious

amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/dec/26/government-admits-losing-thousands-of-papers-from-national-archives?CMP=share_btn_tw&__twitter_impression=true

Whoops.

woman11017 · 26/12/2017 11:49

Zinoviev letter is soooo brexity

Hasenstein · 26/12/2017 11:56

MaleInterloper

On the issue of remaining in the EU, Clegg has not deviated from his stance, despite all the insults thrown at him and the glee when he lost his seat. He has consistently maintained his position as an unapologetic European, so I can't understand your "fish nor fowl" confusion.

Glad you're still cheering for Brexit, despite us "all" being so misguided. I hope you'll manage to expunge the EU passport from your memory. I still remember having the old blue/black ones and couldn't give a toss either way, so maybe the pain of the memory will fade for you, given time.
It's just a bit of bureaucratic paperwork to get me through an airport. But now with "new technology"! Woohoo.

The mystery of the Schrodinger’s studies continue

Brexit studies were 'being prepared' a year before Davis said they didn't exist

Response to Freedom of Information request reveals Brexit department claimed to be preparing impact assessments in November 2016

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/dec/26/brexit-studies-were-being-prepared-a-year-before-davis-said-they-didnt-exist

MaleInterloper · 26/12/2017 12:14

borntobequiet You know, it is said that those who suicide do not know their own minds. Before the act they become intensely interested and diverted by irrelevancies, and some feel they go to their own suicide not actually believing it is their demise.

You cannot debate, preferring to be part of an echo chamber which this thread definitely is. Other threads I have read have a mixture of opinions which posters discuss. This one is crap. Thanks for your fascile and sexist contribution, it can go in the cat's litter tray.

woman11017 · 26/12/2017 12:14

Davis said they didn't exist
Fibbing isn't very nice is it. That nice Mr Mueller seems to be finding that out too.

twofingerstoEverything · 26/12/2017 12:42

Thank god we have MaleInterloper popping onto the thread to tell us how misguided we all are. His insightful arguments have certainly convinced me. I can't wait to be stripped of my EU citizenship now that he's explained how marvellous my new blue passport is going to be.

TheElementsSong · 26/12/2017 12:44

Oh thank goodness for the superior masculine brainpower, of a slightly familiar tone, now bestowed upon us! I am so grateful, and can now return to suitably feminine concerns like which cleaning cloth to use on my stainless steel fridge.

twofingerstoEverything · 26/12/2017 12:50

Really, elements? Whatever you choose to use, I'm sure MaleInterloper would be able to recommend something superior.

CardinalSin · 26/12/2017 12:56

Something must be going wrong in Brexitland for all these mansplainers to be visiting today!

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 26/12/2017 13:19

I thought it might have something to do with the nominations on the Thread of the Year thread. More people might be heading over to check it out? though an upswing of belligerent posting is usually indicative of other things

woman11017 · 26/12/2017 13:22

How do you nominate this thread? FlowersRedElfInChristmasSlippers

Holliewantstobehot · 26/12/2017 13:23

Selfish would be if I wanted free travel for myself and no one else. I can't even afford a passport! In the grand scheme of brexit having to get a visa to go to Europe is a minor thing but may well be the consequence that hits people the most as it can't be blamed on anything else. Stopping free movement will not stop terrorism. Many terrorists are born in the country they attack.

Anyway now a man has explained what a wrongheaded girl I am I suppose I ought to go and clean behind my fridge like a good girl and stop worrying my pretty little head about things that are beyond me.

People travelled around Europe perfectly well before EU.

Probably not a good idea you speak to my Dad then. Or my late Mum. Or, indeed, me.

Waiting for hours in the passport queue both ends of a European journey (going with my DM, returning with my DF) wasn't fun. But then you never had to do it, did you ?

HashiAsLarry · 26/12/2017 14:37

Eh up lasses. Man has spoken.

18 months of being misguided and now we'll be right as.

purposely ignores LH like a leaver ignores facts

Figmentofmyimagination · 26/12/2017 14:43

maleinterloper shame on you. If you had any personal experience of those close to you dying through suicide you would hang your head in shame. What a vile thing to post. It must be horrible inside your head.

LurkingHusband · 26/12/2017 14:43

Amused anyone might think - even at Christmas - that I might harbour Leaver tendencies.

Too much Wine ?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 26/12/2017 14:49

Not to speak for hashi but I think she means she’s ignoring you on account of you not being a lady, in a similar way that leavers ignore facts.

Apologies hashi if that isn’t right.

woman thread is here and you can make nominations by posting on it: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3113632-To-celebrate-the-unique-space-that-is-Mumsnet-Talk-MNHQ-would-love-you-to-share-your-Threads-of-the-Year?watched=1&msgid=74300647#74300647

dessimating: should this be decimating?
fascile: should this be facile?

Do people suicide?

I'm one for not proof reading and omit articles all the time, but strange turns of phrase.

As for content, I'll get back to my Jelly Babies and Maltesers .

Won't let vitriol and rabidness suck the oxygen. A sense of PR led overrepresentation on media and press in any case. One would be led to believe they speak for 80% of the country at the very least. But in reality it is a case of Hornswogglers holding the country hostage.

All the best to everyone over the Christmas. And a great 2018. Onwards and Upwards. Ta for the thread, RTB.

LurkingHusband · 26/12/2017 14:56

In English. Not Russian Hmm

RedToothBrush · 26/12/2017 14:59

Just a reminder about recent terror attacks in this country. How many were UK born? And of those who weren't, how many were born outside of the EU and therefore subject to UK immigration policies already? And of those who were EU nationals, how many of them were known to EU intelligence agencies who told us - bearing in mind that we are not in Schegen and still had control of borders - and had only recently entered the country under existing laws?

And more to the point, how many does this leave that post Brexit changes would have made a blind bit of difference to?

The delusional idea that somehow Brexit will make us immune to terrorists is hilarious when you scratch at it.

It's like all the CRB and then DBS checks bought in after Soham that wouldn't have caught Huntley anyway.
