May I ask a question ?

After March 2019, when things are still shit, and immigrants are still coming in, and food stays expensive, and the non London regions still get ignored by Whitehall
Who will you blame for the UK's problems?

I deal with a lot of pro Brexit folks at work
and all of the problems they have are actually Whitehall policies
not Brussels ones
SO
Once Brussels is in the rear view mirror, who will you blame for the UKs poor government ?

themueslicamel · 02/12/2017 21:25

Ok Michael, I will it stand

OP posts:
themueslicamel · 02/12/2017 21:26

If this are shut, we blame the uk government.

OP posts:
Ta1kinPeace · 02/12/2017 21:29

If this are shut, we blame the uk government.
So what will you do about it ?
As both Labour and the Tories will be following the same policies

OliviaD68 · 02/12/2017 21:34

@Ta1kinPeace
Don't kid yourself. Brussels will be blamed for being so mean and unreasonable.

Ta1kinPeace · 02/12/2017 21:36

But once the UK has taken back control, why would Brussels be an issue Grin

themueslicamel · 02/12/2017 21:37

Or even if it's shit!

OP posts:
OliviaD68 · 02/12/2017 21:41

@Ta1kinPeace

Because we can't blame ourselves. We are incapable of saying we messed up and need to self correct.

It takes leadership to to do that and there is a void at the moment. Certainly is likely to be for a while.

Example: MP writes to constituent saying we can't reverse Brexit because it would be embarrassing

Example: Ireland is being mean with the U.K. because it can't accept the results of the vote ... that took place in the U.K.

ALWAYS someone else's fault.

Ta1kinPeace · 02/12/2017 21:46

I'm still waiting for you to answer .....
Who will the regions and the poor and the low paid blame once the EU is no longer the scapegoat
and what will you DO about it ?

themueslicamel · 02/12/2017 22:10

Interesting insight into future party politics talking.

We will vote according to our conscience and the manifestos released at the time.

OP posts:
Ta1kinPeace · 02/12/2017 22:13

We will vote according to our conscience and the manifestos released at the time.
But when neither of the contenders cares about the regions or the poor and they keep bringing in immigrants - despite "taking back control"
what will you do ?

You will not be able to blame the EU, that boat will have sailed
who will you pin instead

themueslicamel · 02/12/2017 22:23

Talking, you are not making sense?!?

How do you know both candidates do not care in a future election?

Why only 2 candidates?

My ballot sheet is a lot fuller than that.

I have never missed a vote, even when I was having chemotherapy and I never will, politics changes rapidly these days and Brexit shows us that single issue disposable parties can change things enormously before fading into obscurity.

What I will do exercise my democratic right and collectively hold to account those who hold power

OP posts:
Peregrina · 03/12/2017 08:36

Once Brussels is in the rear view mirror, who will you blame for the UKs poor government ?

They will still say it's the EU's fault, in the same way that despite being out of Office for seven years, all the domestic problems, according to the Tory manuscript, are still Labour's fault.

Peregrina · 03/12/2017 08:40

Example: MP writes to constituent saying we can't reverse Brexit because it would be embarrassing

Whereas they should be saying, 'I will take note of your opinions', and if they get a post bag which begins to show that people don't like May's version of Brexit, they should be communicating this. Instead of effectively saying 'la,la,la, I'm not listening'. Mind you, my MP did that, and she is now an ex-MP.

Ta1kinPeace · 03/12/2017 11:35

Why only 2 candidates? My ballot sheet is a lot fuller than that.
And how many of them will be in the government.
Under the UK system we have two choices
neither of which care about the regions or the poor

SO
Who will you blame when its still shit after Brexit?

OliviaD68 · 03/12/2017 12:38

While I would not be surprised if Leavers will continue to blame the EU for our pain, I have some sympathy for trying to divine what the future political landscape will look like.

I do like @Ta1kinPeace reference to most gripes actually coming from UK policy vs EU policy.

So while we are on the subject of blame @themueslicamel what do you blame the EU for today? What has the EU done specifically to make your life more difficult than it would otherwise have been? Give us your top 3.

themueslicamel · 03/12/2017 13:53

Me?

Nothing actually.

I think the EU had been good in many ways, I don't blame it for anything.

My concerns are the direction it is going, away from the original ideas and towards a continental dictatorship.

Such a shame as it started out as a good idea.

Peregrina · 03/12/2017 15:22

My concerns are the direction it is going, away from the original ideas and towards a continental dictatorship.

So why not stay in and try to be a counterbalance? And genuinely try to take part, not just whine for special deals.

Ta1kinPeace · 03/12/2017 15:33

Changing systems and organisations from the outside is always a lot harder than from the inside.
The UK will always have to deal with the EU - but has given away its influence.
Not a good strategy.

MongerTruffle · 03/12/2017 15:38

If a democratic process was illegally overthrown you might get a few more show up. I would be there lawfully protesting too, and I suspect other might not be so law abiding.

The government certainly didn't have this sort of response to the Catalan independence referendum, which was a democratic process.

twofingerstoEverything · 03/12/2017 15:39

"Dictatorship" Grin Xmas Grin Grin

themueslicamel · 03/12/2017 16:20

So why not stay in and try to be a counterbalance? And genuinely try to take part, not just whine for special deals.

Mr Cameron tried this remember?

They shut him down flat.

That was the point I started to shift from remain to leave, further enhanced by the £8,000,000 impartial guide sent out just before the start of the official campaign period independently telling us to stay in.

OP posts:
Peregrina · 03/12/2017 16:24

Mr Cameron tried this remember?
Did he really try? My recollection was that it was another whine for a special deal.

They shut him down flat. He won some concessions, so that's not wholly true, but perhaps they are just sick of the whine, whine, whine.

OliviaD68 · 03/12/2017 16:27

@themueslicamel

Define 'continental dictatorship.' I don't understand what that means based on the current democratic process in Brussels.

In particular, I'd like to understand how you expect the six main EU institutions to enable such a dictatorship. I have not heard that such changes are afoot but maybe I'm wrong.

So we're clear, I'm talking about:

the European Council
the European Commission
the Council of the European Union
the European Parliament
the Court of Justice of the European Union
the European Court of Auditors

Could you list me three ways in which that change has had an impact on your day to day life ?
And thus three ways that leaving the EU will improve your day to day life ......
