So, what are your plans for L-Day?

Party or Pining?

🤗 or 😭?

He wouldn't need to.

"If a democratic process was illegally overthrown you might get a few more show up"

Well, that is debatable. It was originally passed through Parliament as a non binding advisory referendum. So tell me where the illegal bit about discarding the advice for a multitude of reasons occurs?

Don't know yet where I'll be. See how things evolve.

Like to hear your thoughts on this, muesli.

Do you mean 'overthrown' by our democratically elected sovereign parliament? Who else might 'overthrow' democratic process?

OliviaD68 · 01/12/2017 12:30

@twofingerstoEverything

The Remoaner aliens. They'll ave dunnit.

BoboEK · 01/12/2017 12:50

Until there is a solution to the N.I / CU issue brexit will not happen not even by crashing out ;-)

Another U-turn will happen shortly.

OliviaD68 · 01/12/2017 13:10

@BoboEK

If Parliament wills it, we can crash out of the EU. Even without a solution to the NI border. It would be immensely irresponsible but not impossible.

Why do you think otherwise?

themueslicamel · 01/12/2017 19:29

Just to remind everyone of the BBC coverage of David Cameron's the January 2013 speech.

"And when we have negotiated that new settlement, we will give the British people a referendum with a very simple in-or-out choice to stay in the EU on these new terms; or come out altogether. It will be an in/out referendum."

Looks pretty conclusive to me that he wasn't offering an "advisory only decision", even if technically was one.

Well, for one, in the speech you've quoted there's no mention of it being binding or not (although the leaflets of course did say 'We will implement what you decide').

Also, yes, that's kind of the bind/the point, isn't it? That it was perhaps technically advisory only, but POLITICALLY binding.

Anyway, none of this backs up what you say about 'a democratic process' being 'illegally overthrown', does it?

OliviaD68 · 01/12/2017 20:04

@themueslicamel

Ministers are not sovereign. Only Parliament is sovereign in this country. So utterances of a PM can't bind Parliament.

themueslicamel · 01/12/2017 20:16

"Gentle nudge back to the topic question"

I will be celebrating quietly at home, mindfully aware that not everyone want this, but the majority who voted do.

OP posts:
FickleMatter · 01/12/2017 21:49

Camel, may I rephrase your sentence... 'the majority who voted DID' and actually maybe they did not even want what we are going to get.

themueslicamel · 01/12/2017 21:58

No, you may not

OP posts:
FickleMatter · 01/12/2017 22:09

Fair enough, but in my view, your sentence and your thinking are invalid.

RhiannonOHara · 01/12/2017 23:05

"Gentle nudge back to the topic question"

Oh, how come? I was looking forward to your further thoughts on the issue (that you brought up) of binding or not/legal or not.

themueslicamel · 01/12/2017 23:33

Because MN and indeed the world does not need yet another shoutyBrexit thread.

Hence a return to the original question.

If it means that Brexit is cancelled to save the Good Friday Agreement, and violence returning to NI is avoided, then yes, that would be something to celebrate.

I don't know how anyone can say what the majority who voted Leave wanted. Some political chump last week said confidently 'we voted to leave the Single Market and Customs Union'. Well that wasn't on my ballot paper, and nor was it on the ballot papers of those who thought they were voting to save the NHS. More money for the NHS would also have me celebrating.

themueslicamel · 02/12/2017 08:23

This is what mine said.

Seems simple enough.

Quite so mueslicamel - no mention of leaving the Single Market or Customs Union. Not a word.

@BrandNewHouse

That was the set of concessions that Cameron negotiated with Brussels to appease the extreme Brexidiots. It didn't amount to much - because the rues can't change much - so the Ref went ahead. I don't remember what Cameron was able to extract.

OliviaD68 · 02/12/2017 11:41

@Peregrina

And most voters - including Leavers -- didn't think we were leaving the SM or CU ...

11pm, 29th March 2019, what will you be doing?
Peregrina · 02/12/2017 11:54

After all, at the time of the Referendum, the Tory Manifesto still had a commitment to the Single Market. So when Cameron's words are used to justify pulling out of the Single Market, remember that he was directly contradicting his Manifesto commitment - which of course, isn't binding either.

OliviaD68 · 02/12/2017 12:40

@Peregrina

But, but, ...

Are you implying Brexidiots are selective in the information they present to back up their arguments?

Peregrina · 02/12/2017 13:09

Isn't the answer "You may think that, I couldn't possibly comment"?
