Westminstenders: The Brexit Apprentice

Theresa May is increasing looking like she is running an episode of the Apprentice with two teams trying to compete in their plan for Brexit. Complete with the obligatory reprehensible contestants.

On one side we have Team Creationists intent on hard Brexit and on the other we have Team Sensibles desperate to get a softer deal.
May herself has been held hostage by seasoned expert negotiators the DUP. Once No 10 has reported the deal was done, only for the DUP to say it wasn’t. Then it said, it would be settled today. But the DUP disagreed and said ‘the weekend’. Now its 'next week'.

Meanwhile the Queen has been messed about with a scapegoat over when her Queen’s Speech will be. It’s likely to be a week on Monday.
Meanwhile the Brexit department is also in chaos.

The Number two in the department was sacked and replaced by a Remainer, and the number three quit amongst reports that he no longer thought Brexit was achievable and that there was no way that the Great Repeal Act could pass through the Lords. He has been replaced by the Head of the infamous Arch-Brexit Whatsapp group.

Oh and Gove got hired. Nuff said on that one.

After some slight back tracking from David Davis, Hard Brexit is still on in all its glory. Negotiations are going ahead next week. Well that’s what we are saying. The EU, on the other hand, don’t won’t to go ahead until we have an officially sworn in government. Which seems pretty fair enough.

Tune in to find out which Team wins this week’ The Brexit Apprentice

Always been in that camp, but I also joined Labour yesterday. Much as my area is totally Tory dominated, I simply can't watch them screw it up at every level of Government any more.

frumpety · 16/06/2017 07:42

It was always about lack of public accountability. All our problems stem from that

YY to this ^

During the run up to referendum , I kept asking people who were considering voting leave, who would be accountable when it all went tits up ? After the referendum they were very vocal in saying that those of us who voted remain would be accountable , or the EU for not playing nicely , or in fact anyone other than the people who had publicly campaigned for Leave .

Hands up who can answer the first of the three questions the Daily Mail has?

I believe the answer they are struggling for is 'no'.

@ever thanks, that's a good idea.

I noticed in the newspaper review that Lady MacGove is spreading her usual brand of spite married to charmlessness masquerading as concern.

HashiAsLarry · 16/06/2017 07:45

No
Standard advice for single stairwell properties
They don't know

This was all answered very quickly yesterday morning. Stupid daily mail.

Now we have victim blaming? Awesome.

RedToothBrush · 16/06/2017 07:52

Accountability starts with knowing the right questions to ask. The right questions is not whether the green target was bad but whether the materials used to meet the target were fit for purpose and in the course of that whether our building regulations were fit for purpose.

The answer to that already appears to be no. But that question leads in a very different direction.

Our country is run like this.

May asked why we voted to leave the EU and came up with immigrants.

The fail is beyond words
They should be held accountable. Thank God the young don't read it's lies.

Yesterday they outed the guy who's flat the fire allegedy started from. Had pictures of him smiling on his holidays etc.. oh and had to.mention he was african ie an immigrant.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 16/06/2017 07:52

And were they informed how important sprinklers would be? I doubt it

borntobequiet · 16/06/2017 07:53

I wonder if residents were specifically asked if they wanted sprinklers and had the benefits explained to them.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 16/06/2017 07:54

It was probably like our school parent council meetings where we are clearly guided to vote in a direction the HT wants.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 07:55

As nothing else they wanted or didn't want was taken into account I cry B.S. on this claim

HashiAsLarry · 16/06/2017 07:56

the haves rub shoulders with the have nots
It ain't by choice though is it love? Angry

RedToothBrush · 16/06/2017 07:58

Andrew Lilico @ andrewlilico
So now Labour's in favour of forcibly requisitioning private property for social purposes. Not that it's gone far left or anything...
Next it'll be "Why shld houses lie empty whilst homeless people sleep on the streets or in shelters?" Let's requisition them!"
Then it'll be "Why shld houses lie empty whilst poor people live in temporary accommodation? Let's requisition them!"

I'm wetting myself at the replies saying 'Great ideas! Thanks!'

Its a truly new level of bastardry to call out kindness and social justice as unfair and outrageous

Sostenueto · 16/06/2017 07:59

The residents didn't want the cladding, but they got it. They didn't want gas put in but they got it. They didn't want gas boilers fitted next to the front door but they got it. They didn't want gaspipes in the fire well but they got it. The list goes on, if they start blaming the residents there will be riots. And if I hear another excuse for May not meeting the victims I shall scream!

Mrsmartell08 · 16/06/2017 08:01

Sarah vine...what a c**t
The daily mail really haven't grasped the feeling in the country have they?
Victim blaming is not going to work this time...

Eeeeeowwwfftz · 16/06/2017 08:01

Well, he wants any of those houses all he has to do is make himself homeless.

Sostenueto · 16/06/2017 08:03

Rally this evening for justice for victims. Expect trouble and who can blame them?

frumpety · 16/06/2017 08:04

How does 'they didn't want sprinklers' transform into they didn't want a safe fireproof escape route ?

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 08:07

I said yesterday I thought victim blaming would start....that is very very dangerous.

Ffs whole families have been wiped out. I can personally feel palpable anger. I'm not personally effected. Those poor poor people deserve our love and respect. Not hatred from the scummy tabloids. Never again

RedToothBrush · 16/06/2017 08:11

Grenfell Tower: Original proposed contractor was dropped to reduce cost of refurbishment project

In 2013 the government wrote to every local authority to encourage them to retrofit sprinkler systems in older tower blocks. It did so at the request of a coroner who leads an inquest into a fire in Camberwell in which six people died.

Is the council leader saying, that he told residents that a coroner recommended sprinklers following a lethal fire and the residents, who were asking for better fire safety in the building from at least as early as 2013, said no.

Really?

It's come to something when Michael Portillo accuses TM of failing to show her humanity - and he's quoted in the Telegraph!

RedToothBrush · 16/06/2017 08:14

Portillo last night was brilliant. Totally withering about the entire Conservative party. Totally withering about how they were approaching Brexit, whilst pointing out that he himself was a leaver.

He could not have said they are incompetent with much more force and power.
