Well here we are, almost 9 months on from the referendum & A50 is finally set to be triggered this month.
We've had petitions, marches, tantrums & tears, from the hardcore remainers desperately trying to stop the will of the people, but they can't.

So let's get the champagne out of the cellar ready & waiting - this is the last Brexit Arms thread so let's celebrate!

too late surf. explosion in the sofa factory (zero hours workers)

Anon1234567890 · 19/03/2017 00:14

I want to see carefully reasoned debate about how leaving the (imperfect) EU will make everything rainbows'n'unicorns

Seriously, you dont get to do that. People voted to leave. So if you want us to change our minds then give us a reasoned debate about how staying in the (imperfect) EU will make everything rainbows'n'uniorns.

I could attempt a lengthy reasoned debate with that sofa.
But I'd prefer to sit on it.
What an accommodating establishment you have here, inn keeper.

CardinalSin · 19/03/2017 00:54

Surfer - What makes you think that being out of the EU is going to make Zero Hours contracts go away?

Is it that unicorn whispering in your ear?

It would be unkind to ask for any plans:

mumsnetters: < any discussion on facts and figures>
brexiters: Bleat! Bleat!! Project Fear!!! Project Fear!!!!

Anthing resembling facts and figures obviously brings on post-traumatic stress.

surferjet · 19/03/2017 08:59

CardinalSin
I never said leaving the EU would have any effect on zero hour contracts - my point was that being in the EU had no effect on them either! So trying to imply that leaving the EU would give us ZHC is rubbish. We already have them.
It's interesting to note though, that the very same people who bang on about poor working conditions / gig economy/ big bosses taking the piss / are the very same people who sing the praises of Uber Hmm. As long as you get your cheap cab fare you don't really give a toss. It's the usual virtue signalling we've come to expect from full of shite remainers.

OP posts:
Kaija · 19/03/2017 09:06

Who is singing the praises of Uber?

Kaija · 19/03/2017 09:07

I don't use them. Do you?

surferjet · 19/03/2017 09:15

You must be joking. I'd rather walk 100 miles in barefoot. But I know plenty of remainers who use them all the time.

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 19/03/2017 09:15

Never used Uber in my life.

I'm proud to have a virtue to signal. Its better than being empathy free and devoid of any critical thinking.

Brexit voters had better get used to shit pay and conditions.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 19/03/2017 09:16

Surfer, is your house full of gadgets and clothing all made in UK to the highest ethical standards?

Kaija · 19/03/2017 09:21

"You must be joking. I'd rather walk 100 miles in barefoot."

Is this what people mean when they talk about "virtue signalling"?

CardinalSin · 19/03/2017 09:45

Surfer, I'll bet you £350 million a week that the EU will ban Zero Hours contracts long before the UK England and Wales do.

howabout · 19/03/2017 11:48

Just found myself agreeing with Tony Blair (on Andrew Marr) Shock

... The collapse of the centre ground is because it became defined as managing the status quo rather than developing the policy responses to cope with people's concerns.

Re concern for Uber drivers and NHS staffing I also agree with TB Shock that the real debate is how to deal with the march of technology and the impact on jobs. Driverless cabs are already on trial in the US and Far East.

I may need a very long lie down to compute whether it is TB who, as my DH points out, is very good at reclaiming the zeitgeist or whether I just need to give my head a wobble.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 19/03/2017 11:55

Howabout all those arguements are complex, people prefer slogans and to be told who to hate.

surferjet · 19/03/2017 14:21

GhostofFrankGrimes

A few key words stand out in your link:

  1. could
  2. suggested
  3. oh. & this: The 'idea' floated at a hearing of the Treasury Select Committee, was immediately rejected by an economist.

remainers - if you're going to link articles to this thread can you please check the standards - an MP floating an idea is not a fact < sigh >

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 19/03/2017 14:38

Surfer the whole premise of leaving the EU is based on what we COULD do. Which is why Brexit is mocked as a fantasy land full of unicorns.

Oh, for goodness sake. I like to drop in here to praise Brexit but the pub seems to be filling up with argumentative remoaners. Each time I just drink up and leave.
Large G&T please.
I am not going to answer any questions. I am going to be happy and celebrate our freedom and independence from the shackles of the EU.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 19/03/2017 19:52

because you have no answers. You already had sovereignty the Brexit white paper said as much.
