Remainers and Leave regretters - if you haven't heard of "Vote for Europe", it is an organisation encouraging tactical voting to elect pro-European parliamentary candidates. Many of us are feeling hopeless and helpless in the current political climate. This offers some hope that our voices will be heard. The first big challenge is the Witney by-election!

Rortycrankle, I am new to Mumsnet and hadn't realised there was a EU referendum thread until you or one of the others pointed it out. I could have asked for it to be moved I guess, but thought it was quicker to post again.

I'm a Remainer and don't accept that the referendum outcome, which was 'advisory' in any case, is the right decision for our country. I will therefore continue to write to my MP to ask what 'Brexit means Brexit' means. If I could vote tactically I would. There are many thousands of us who feel the same.

I also believe we need parliamentary approval to 'Brexit' as we are a parliamentary democracy. The House of Lords Constitution Committee agrees.

I can only think that remain voters who are now willing to quietly accept things didn't really have the courage of their convictions in the first place.

I'm sure all you Tory admirers will recognise this quote: You turn if you want to. The lady's not for turning.

Love the quote Twofingers. Usually I would the first person to go along with a majority vote and make the best of a situation for the common good. Certainly that would the easier route to take. I am not a political activist, I am a sitter on the fence. But everything about campaign, the suffering of so many already since the result and the vision of our future beyond Brexit tells me I cannot accept "Brexit means Brexit."

Rorty, maybe you, yes you, with all your certainty and confidence, explain to me what Brexit means then.

What did the 52% vote for exactly? What is, as you put it, "inevitable"?

I've been wondering for months now. And nobody seems to be able to tell me.

twofingers, can I ask: when you write to your MP to ask what 'Brexit means Brexit' means, do you write the same thing every time? How often are you writing? Have you had replies?

I wrote to mine a while ago but wonder whether I should keep writing, in the interests of keeping up the pressure.

Mine has usually been quite responsive in the past, but isn't very responsive on Brexit issues, despite being strongly in favour of Remain. He has only just replied to a letter I wrote in June. I keep writing though! The worst thing would be for MPs to think 'Oh, it's all gone quiet now; people must have accepted it.'

The Lib Dems

Yes I have written a few times now; normally when something new crops up in the whole fiasco. I tell her I don't expect a reply, but would just like my views noted.

Fakename- yes Lib Dems are pro- Europe.

In Scotland the SNP are continuing to actively campaign against Brexit. The Scottish Labour Party (and the Greens and LibDems) supported a motion in Holyrood immediately following the referendum, that the Scottish Government should explore all options to allow us to retain EU membership. Iirc, the Conservatives abstained.

The Scottish Conservatives, even though they campaigned for Remain, are now very much towing the line that "Brexit means Brexit" and that the will of the whole of the UK has to be followed through. They are complaining bitterly that the SNP aren't taking the possibility of an Indyref2 off the table, despite the fact that being taken out of the EU against our will was a specific example in the SNP's Manifesto of a "material change in circumstances" but there again, the Conservatives don't understand the concept of standing by manifesto commitments

I keep expressing my views and hoping for answers, but they have been slow in being forthcoming. I am still waiting on a reply to what does Brexit mean Brexit actually mean.
