Clearly Boris didn't get the memo, on when to quit the power games, even after Gove schooled him in the dark arts of the Tory Leadership....

So the Tory Smackdown rolls on whilst Corbyn STILL clings on. UKIP has now entered the race to make a challenge for who can make the biggest leadership contest shambles.

In The Blue Corner
May strikes fear into the hearts of EU citizens as she counts her bargaining chips.
Gove strikes fear into the hearts of humans, with his Martian twitch.
Loathsom strikes fear in the hearts of Britains by talking about babies brains.
Crabb strikes fear into the hearts of Torys by suggesting a plan that Corbyn might like. (and that beard doesn't help).
And Fox.
Well he just turned up.

Johnson is still waiting in the wings to stab Gove. He'd quite fancy a seat at the cabinet table too.
Osborne has gone quite again and we wait with baited breathe to see if he is the 'Charlie off Casualty' of the Tory Party (y'know whatever happens he somehow survives like a cockroach).

In The Red Corner
Corbyn apologies. So we know he's getting a bit desperate.
Will the Unions figure out something else to do other than sit with their head in hands.
Angela Eagle is still doing jellyfish impressions and hasn't found that backbone.
We STILL don't know who the fuck Owen Smith is?
Will Bliar's chicken's finally come home to roost?
The Cult of Momentum, rumbles on. We aren't quite sure who they actually vote for, but they seem to like their Dear Leader.
When will this country next have an opposition party?

Its kinda getting boring guys, we need some action now. End the Chicken Coup! The Tories are definitely out doing in the high drama stakes.

In the Purple Corner
Farage has gone! Hurrah. We hope only that he stays under that rock.
(Don't count on it. They'll wheel him out when they need publicity)
Will Leadsom be elected leader? Oh sorry, wrong party. I was getting confused for a second there.
Will they throw the cuckoo Carswell out? [:)]
Will they be able to find a less offensive leader than Farage who can unite them in their common goal of errrr..... yeah. That.
How long before one of their candidates has to apologise for something?

And I suppose I should ask, when will a50 be triggered....? And by whom?

All these questions and more.
Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Well have you ever seen a Labour MP with a unicorn?
WMD yes. Unicorns. No.

It looks like Zac Goldsmith's name has appeared on a list of Loathsom supporters. Did this man get abducted by aliens and body swapped with a double some time shortly before he stood for London Mayor?

Looking plausible at this point.

He's not going to be able to play the "they made me do it" card much longer if he keeps this on. Not that it was ever a good card, or an acceptable excuse.

TheBathroomSink · 07/07/2016 12:04

It has happened Red, although technically it was Labor in Australia!

The Westministenders Hunger Games continues. Boris still trying not to be outmanoevered.

She makes my teeth itch.

It's the voice. It's worse than being stuck in the car with my 9yo and her best friend for a hour while they discuss Zoella and Little Mix, complete with squealing.

citroenpresse · 07/07/2016 12:07

UKIP is the UK's biggest party in Europe already. Not tremendous value (all on six-figure-salaries). Let's campaign to get some of that money back!!!!

Greenleave · 07/07/2016 12:07

This thread has been very interesting with so much info insight(its very very entertained to read too, many times I wonder if who would be Red in real life with such a sharp writing and vast political knowledge). I have beeb reading papers etc however still not fully understand why Corbyn is still there and how could hebe removed from his position? Conservative is in a mess however Labour is such a joke now, sad!

Chalalala · 07/07/2016 12:08

From yesterday's hustings

The justice secretary [Michael Gove] made an emotional speech about how being adopted had affected his life. But when he told the meeting, “my name is not really Michael,” an MP heckled: “no, it’s Brutus!”

Damn, Tory MPs are a tough audience

squoosh · 07/07/2016 12:09

He should still be hiding in a cupboard somewhere, too ashamed to show his face after that disgusting mayoral campaign.

And today I've learned never to be drinking coffee while reading, as choking (because I started laughing while drinking) is not great fun. Grin

I think I saw Owen Smith on TV morning of the 24th interviewed in Wales looking pretty shocked. The interviewer did the whole pointing that Wales gets a lot of EU funding and he nodded sadly and agreed indeed they did.

MrsLupo · 07/07/2016 12:11

And Theresa May responded in a statement:
I have been clear from the start: the party and the country deserve an open, honest, robust debate — and the next leader needs to have won a mandate to lead. So there should be no deals, no tactical voting and no coronation

Hello, lacking context this morning as I'm trying to work hahahahaha instead of being glued to the news channels, so can someone tell me if this is a new statement from May?

Because if it is, it hints at a general election after all, doesn't it? (I thought she previously said she wouldn't call one if elected as the new leader/PM.) Or does she mean that the second placed candidate after today shouldn't just drop out and concede - a members' vote should go ahead as planned?

Of all the many possible evils on the table, a general election would be very much the least of them, imo.

citroenpresse · 07/07/2016 12:12

Lots of people DID vote UKIP (sadly) and now the opportunity to get a UKIP leader in through the back door. The finance behind her….oh this is really quite scary.

GingerIvy · 07/07/2016 12:12

Ben Bradshaw:

He adds that the Conservatives tend to be "much more effective and brutal" in the way they deal with ousting their leaders and leadership.

Conjures up images of dragging them off and throwing them in the river, it does.

TheBathroomSink · 07/07/2016 12:13

Greenleave, he has to be challenged, because he won't step down voluntarily. So an MP has to find their backbone (or borrow one, we don't care much anymore) and make a formal challenge.

I think we can take it as read that Corbyn will be on the ballot as a sitting leader. There's a possible legal argument that he doesn't have that right automatically, but Labour are so disorganised at the moment they probably can't sort out a legal challenge, and it would probably take too long to resolve.

Corbyn might well win, this largely depends on whether most of the newer members are pro or anti him. It's not a foregone conclusion like it was a couple of weeks ago. If he wins, then it gets very interesting as to whether the MPs suck it up and get in line, or split. If they split, there will be fights over who owns the name and the funds, and the membership. If they split, I think the SNP become the official opposition too.

RedToothBrush · 07/07/2016 12:15

This has been leaked from last night at a closed door meeting
Michael, you promised your support to a colleague for the leadership and then betrayed him. You've just claimed to represent the best tradition of the Tory Party and said that we should vote for whoever we think will best PM yet you and your supporters have spent the day asking people to do the opposite. If you'd asked me two weeks ago who I most admired in British politics you would have been near the top of the list. But it's clear to me now that you aren't fit for the highest office.
Said Graham Stuart (already on Team May)

Whilst this leak might be deliberate to undermine Gove (it could be from Team May or indeed Leadsom) it does suggest that there could be real issues if Gove gets it, from within his own party.

Heather Wheeler (pro Loathsome) on Daily Politics is not making a terribly good impression, avoiding the whole CV issue repeatedly, says the speech this morning was important in terms of her policies.

Presumably unicorns are officially her policy now then.

QueenLaBeefah · 07/07/2016 12:18

I've come to the conclusion that Leadsome is utterly insane. I can't believe that I am actually missing David Cameron.

TheBathroomSink · 07/07/2016 12:19

Ginger - sorry Smile

MrsLupo - as far as I can remember that was in terms of the leadership election and suggestions from some that if she got enough MP support there should just be a 'coronation'

TheBathroomSink · 07/07/2016 12:21

Loathsome supporter - Andrea should be PM because she's not part of the metropolitan elite, she's a midlands MP, it would be a refreshing change.

Cameron, Brown, Blair - none of them were London MPs, where they?

MrsLupo · 07/07/2016 12:24

Oh, OK, thanks, so no general election and a real risk that the loathsome Conservative membership might vote in a Loathsome PM. Sad

MrsLupo · 07/07/2016 12:26

Leadsom grew up in the home counties though. She's certainly no midlander. Not that it matters imo. They are all to some extent in the Westminster bubble.

GingerIvy · 07/07/2016 12:27

Queen I had a brief moment of that re Cameron yesterday, but common sense prevailed. Grin

MrsLupo · 07/07/2016 12:28

I loved that Frankie Boyle description of Andrea Leadsom as (paraphrasing) 'someone a Nazi scientist might have designed as a response to Dame Vera Lynn'. Grin

Hamishandthefoxes · 07/07/2016 12:29

Loathsome's constituency almost borders Cameron's. Basically there is just Banbury between them but I suppose that makes all the difference. Hmm
