Brexit

General Election anyone?

We seem to be heading for a situation where the new PM will be a Remainer who will have to implement Brexit - just like if DC had stayed.
My feeling is we need a general election so the nation can vote for the PM of their choice who will clearly plan to run with Brexit or Remain.
Would this be a popular plan?

It might be a popular plan, but we don't vote for a PM, we vote for an MP. The parties elect their leader - the tories need to do this before they could even contemplate a GE and the labour party is a complete mess at the moment. A GE would probably result in a hung, totally disfunctional parliament with only the SNP having any coherence.

Kummerspeck · 01/07/2016 09:24

It is only a popular plan with those who want to reverse a democratic decision and would be cause for riots in areas that felt their votes were being overruled by political manipulations

I am not convinced that a GE is a good idea right now, as much as I wouldnt want gove in charge, we do need a period of stability, and I think a GE will just introduce more uncertainty to the markets. IMHO, the decision has been made, we need to see it through now, and negotiate the best possible deal, this cannot happen if there is yet more campaigning and upheaval. As much as I am not a labour supporter, they are in no position to offer an electable alternative currently, so it would probably end up being largely a one horse race anyway at the moment.

One main horse, with UKIP getting a few more MPs from former traditional Labour supporters as well as extreme right wingers. Kummerspec is absolutely wrong to think that Remainers would want a GE in the midst of this turmoil. With the state of the political parties and our wretched 1st past the post system, moderates have nowhere to go. Sad

I think a GE election would be the worst thing to happen at the moment.

Labour supporters stick up two fingers at them, in their heartlands last week. The UKIP vote would surge due to Labour's inability to run itself, let alone a country.

Think more than anything at the moment, we need stability

I agree with a pp that a GE would be the worst possible thing at the moment. I wouldn't trust Labour to make a cheese sandwich right now let alone govern the country. And UKIP would come out winning no doubt.
